Mancini: ManC has no squad depth
Source
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has again reiterated that his squad lacks strength in depth, despite spending £250 million on new players since his arrival two years ago.
The Italian tactician has recently had his options limited after strikers Mario Balotelli and Eden Dzeko picked up knocks, while Yaya and Kolo Toure will be missing throughout January due to African Nations Cup duty with Ivory Coast.
Despite Gareth Barry returning from suspension in time for their up-coming League Cup clash with Liverpool, Mancini also looks set to have to do without influential stopper Vincent Kompany, who faces a four-match ban following his dismissal in the FA Cup defeat to Manchester United.
''All the people think we have a lot of players,'' said Mancini. ''But we have 19, plus keepers. It is not a big squad.
''If we are unlucky and we have three or four players injured, like at this moment, we can have a problem. The club knows this.
''I said four weeks ago that December and January would be crucial months. Until three weeks ago we didn't have any injuries. Now, we have a problem. We have players injured and others who went to the African Nations Cup at a crucial moment.
''I am not happy about this but we can't do anything about it. If we don't get the players back we will play with the young players. If we don't have a central defender we will play with [Karim] Rekik.''
The former Inter Milan boss believes the club have a chance of getting Kompany’s red card overturned on appeal and stands by comments he made about referee Chris Foy’s controversial decision following Sunday's loss.
He added: ''My opinion has not changed. I am confident because Vinny only played 10 minutes.
''He was sent off for nothing. He has already missed one game. I don't think about this [being banned]. It would be not correct if that happened.''
Mancini also mentioned the role of Red Devils striker Wayne Rooney in the incident, after the England international appeared to approach Foy, adding: ''I joked with Wayne Rooney. But he did it. Nani was there. He didn't say anything.''
Should Kompany’s red card stand, the Belgium international would miss both legs of the League Cup semi-final with Liverpool as well as vital Premier League matches against Wigan and Tottenham.
---
Really, the only area where I see maybe a little lacking is at CM. The rest? Come on, they're packed and can easily throw out 2 class players per position.

LOL, ever coach in the world wished the had the depth Man City had lol.
This guy is smart and knows what he is doing and the owners have too much money to care about what he spends.

Re: Mancini: ManC has no squad depth
Compared to Barca, Madrid, Arsenal, United and maybe Milan they really don't.
They're lucky they haven't gotten any long term injuries this season or else they'd be f**ked.
United have TEN first team injuries this season and they're still only 3 points behind them.

No Kompany, Silva or Toure brothers tomorrow
Revenge is on ....can't wait for Bellers vs Clichy
Still can't understand how they beat us 3-0 last week, with us controlling the game.

Seriously tho were are being forced to play 18 yr old kids instead of Tiote and Best or Ameobi to replace Ba......
And he's complaining about having Lescott and De Jong to replace the Toure's?

We have all our fullbacks out and the CB who were covering the fullback are all out lol.
Henry will play RB this weekend and ALmunia will play LB, we have no choice.

failpool, no offence.
More possession = Control , no matter how useless the possession is
Failpool 4-0 Failrid

I didn't even watch that game. Just saw the stats
3 points away from 4th, being the only team in the league to have faced the best team in the league twice , on verge of winning 2 domestic cups too

@ Raptor
I was comparing thee situation because both are losing 2 players to AFCON, do we complain about it tho? no we dont we use what we have and get on with it.....
I am aware of your injury situation its insane, imagine if Mancini had to deal with that and what he would say
Also Sepi you are also 1 point from 7th

Yeah, 2nd or 3rd time I've heard this shit.

Re: Mancini: ManC has no squad depth
It's utterly unbelievable. Man City are 2-3 deep with internationals at every position.
Capped Internationals
(In no particular order.)
ST: Balotelli, Dzeko, Aguero... Tevez
AM: Silva, Milner, Nasri, Johnson, Toure, [Aguero]
DM: Barry, De Jong, Hargreaves (... I know it's been a while, but he has the potential), [Toure]
Fullbacks: Zabeleta, Clichy, Kolarov, Richards (... let's be honest. He really should be.)
CB: Kompany, Lescott, Toure
Depth is not the issue. However, that's not really what he's worried about. He's looking to build the perfect squad from a team chemistry and consistency standpoint. That's something that previous Man City managers have failed to do. They can buy all the internationals they want, but if those internationals can't play together, it doesn't matter. Mancini is trying to convince the owners to continue to spend until he gets a world class lineup that can put their egos aside and play with each other.

Re: Mancini: ManC has no squad depth
It's more to do with the idea that we have to sell to buy at the moment.
Until Tevez leaves we can't reinforce the squad.
However seeing as Hughes has just been appointed as QPR boss then I imagine the champagne corks are popping at the Etihad as we speak.
Onuhoa, Bridge and Santa Crocky could have new homes very soon
