Who has the best CB depth in the PL?

Arsenal: Mertesacker, Vermealen, Koscielny, Squillaci and Djourou
Chelsea : Ivanovic, Luiz , Terry and Alex
Man City: Toure, Kompany, Savic, Boyata and Lescott
Man Utd: Smalling, Jones, Ferdinand, Vidic and Evans
Tottenham : Kaboul, Dawson, King, Bassong and Gallas
Liverpool: Carragher, Skrtel, Agger, Coates and Wilson
Newcastle: S.Taylor, Coloccini, Kadar and Williamson
Stoke: Huth, Woodgate, Upson and Shawcross
Aston Villa: Dunne, Collins, Cuellar and Clark
Everton: Heitenga, Jagielka and Distin

Stoke on paper.

1. Tottenham
2. City
3. United.

United have Evans as back up so I rule them out.

City takes it for me.

in Chelsea.

Terry is world class
Ivanovic is very good
David Luiz is prone to mistakes and way too rash at the moment
Alex is a donkey

No wonder they have 1 clean sheet in 9....and now with Bosingwa banned, Ivanovic will have to play RB, Luiz is bound to give a penalty away vs RVP. knowing him he'll probably score a bicycle goal to even it out (what a goal he almost scored yesterday )

Arsenal's names impress me more than the actual performances those names give

I think i will go for Stoke or City.......

Going over it again, none of them overly impress me.

CB is only half of the defence

Arsenal should be disqualified automatically because Squillaci is on the team.

Cahill would change nothing. Mertesacker, Vermaelen, and Koscielny are all definitely better IMO and Djourou is just as good. Bolton currently have the worst defensive record in the league too (24 goals against after 9 games). There are a lot better players who could be purchased for 17mil...

TO be fair , the performance of the club itself does not always reflect the players abilities. If that were to be the case, Szczesney would be nowhere near the best keepers' list in the PL at the moment (given that our GD is still below 0 ). Being approached by plenty of big clubs across Europe should somewhat indicate that he aint half as bad of a defender.

I think he could be a great player in the future, but my point is that he hasn't looked good this season (unlike Szczesny), and frankly I have never thought he looked that great. He is massively overrated IMO and 17mil is far too much considering he is on the last year of his contract, unless he's going to immediately have an impact, which I don't think he will because I don't think he will play. If we are talking about how much he will improve Arsenal's defence, as is the purpose of this thread, I don't think it will be by much if we were to sign him.

And in fairness, I'm still a little bit butthurt that I got ripped on at the beginning of the summer for claiming Mertesacker was better than Cahill and Samba, even though I think I've been somewhat vindicated so far this season, so I suppose I'm a little bias against Cahill now
