Re: Xavi? The greatest CM ever?
I cant speak for Zico but Platini and Zidane clearly, have won Ballon D'ors and many of them infact.
I am all for Midfielders recieving recognition and once he retires he will go down as the best player never to have won a Ballon D'or.Still a possibility of him winning it although i feel its slim especially this year.

I don't like dealing with 'best ever' awards either, Xavi is definitely up there, but Pirlo will always be my favourite CM.
And Maldini definitely deserves more praise and awards than he has received. There are probably 20 defenders who have deserved a ballon d'or but got beaten by a amf or striker.

Re: Xavi? The greatest CM ever?
Hes been good for Spain, but not nearly as good as he is for Barca. Alonso was much better than him in the World Cup. Hes also only been playing at this level for 3 years. Even if we only judge him based on this, I would still say no (Matthaus, Pirlo, etc > Xavi), much less if we count his whole career. Top 5 most likely, but no way is he #1.
And the best player to never win the Ballon D'Or? Gimme a break. Del Piero, Buffon, Maldini, Totti, Raul, Henry, Pirlo, Ballack, and Gerrard all are above him in my opinion.

I agree, Xavi's WC 2010 is very overrated.

599 - Xavi made 599 successful passes at this tournament, the most in a #worldcup since 1966, (10 more than Dunga in 1994). Maestro.
OptaJoe
25 - Xavi has created 25 goalscoring chances at the 2010 #worldcup – eight more than any other player. Puppeteer. #ESP Spain #NED Netherlands
Yeah, overrated lol And lol at Alonso being better than Xavi at the WC. Alonso was the reason why Spain was struggling to break down the opponents. When Alonso was subbed off Spain played better.

Clueless.
Why dont you rewatch the match against Germany, your favorite team where Xavi made Schweini and the entire German team cahse his shadow for 90min.
Regarding Pirlo, right now its insulting to Xavi to mention Pirlo anywhere close to him.He is that far ahead.

Ok Alex lets not go that far as Pirlo should be compared considering they both are midfielder legends as Pirlo is close to Xavi, but admittedly Xavi simply simply better and has been for a long time.
On topic:@Juve101 Funny that most of the players you mention is like comparing apples and oranges clearly you show bias here and its not worth responding to.
Alonso better than him at the WC? LOL
And follow his advice and go watch the match where Espana by the hands of Xavi COMPLETELY DOMINATED Germany and made 'em look like school boys. Won motm that day.
In my opinion the single greatest midfielder performance of this generation. Alex disagrees with me here though and feels its Xavi at the emirates.
Point is, he is comfortably the best CM of all time.

Umm.. Loddar Matthäus? (As much as he appears as a clown in the media nowadays, he was fantastic as player).

Re: Xavi? The greatest CM ever?
there were better cms,i think Xavi is a bit limited towards passing and creating, while other CMs could do that + be dangerous upfront, like Socrates.

Xavi has 8 goals and 8 assists this season. His forward runs are devastating, you have seen it first hand at the san siroGanso wrote:there were better cms,i think Xavi is a bit limited towards passing and creating, while other CMs could do that + be dangerous upfront, like Socrates.

Many teams have been the victim of Xavi's forward runs examples: 1st goal in 5-0, @ san siro, arsenal 2nd leg 10/11 CL, santos in CWCGanso wrote:devastating? :lucas:

Re: Xavi? The greatest CM ever?
Laughable comments.
Mendieta wasnt ever a centermid nor Xavi level at any point...I wonder how many actually saw Matthäus considering he stopped being a centermid in like 92 and became a sweeper not long after that...
And of course, Xavi being punished for not scoring goals...like thats his role at all lol

The game hasnt seen a better passer than Xavi nor has it seen a better playmaker and yet you are saying that Xavi is limited in his passing and creating.
And if Xavi was around in the 82 WC,with all the space he was afforded to pass as he liked he would have been even better.
Certainly better than Socrates.

Re: Xavi? The greatest CM ever?
Well, I can still remember the 1990 World Cup pretty vividly. There was a reason he won the 1990 Ballon d'Or and got several other honours around that time. And for those who hold high that Xavi is a WC and EC winner - well, the same is valid for Loddar, too.The Franchise wrote:.I wonder how many actually saw Matthäus considering he stopped being a centermid in like 92 and became a sweeper not long after that...
