He has never played RB in his career. Big risk tbh, he may be the next Lahm and better in the future or he will just flop big time.

people still dont get it? mourinho will take the risk, he is NEVER gonna start arbeloa or ramos if he had his ideal rb, and he will take the risk with coentrao.

he will be hailed as a genius if succesful.

How do you know? everyone else is assuming just like everyone else.

I made this point yesterday when discussing Coentrao vs. Maicon. Assuming he does well at RB, it's one of the more appealing qualities about him.

That's the thing, it's a gamble. Judging by the demand shown in signing him, one has to believe Coentrao can deliver in time. How soon he does so, that's the real issue.

Since you seem so assured of how things are going to be, how do you feel about Albiol staying?

What about in the big games:

Marcelo LW
Coentrao LB

DiMaria RW

Ronaldo CF

Against the best of teams we would have a solid LW defense capable of attacking and defending well as a team, on the right flank it would be just as good considering DiMaria's willingness and apt for tracking back. Plus no matter who we have as RB, Ramos or Arbeloa it would produce just as good defence on both wings.

We already have a solid central defence, whether it be Xabi, Sahin or Khedira even Pepe/Carvalho/Albiol.

With Ronaldo as a CF he would have the assistance of the wings and Ozil to push the counter attack and capitalise on any opportunities we get.

I believe this is the sort of stratergy that Jose would be thinking of in making the buy for Coentrao.

In our general run of the mill games you may have to rotate a few players but it would be well worth it for the advantage gained in the bigger matches and knock out rounds.

Just a thought....

I dont like the idea of those Fullbacks playing attacking positions at all. I much rather have Benzema playing on the left and ronaldo CF.

We dont have to play defenders in attack to beat european teams out there, how sad is that, just like playing the counter at all times looks really awful. Not having the ball limit us in a way, and i dont appreciate that.

If he is getting Coentrao just for that, he might as well not even buy him.

Marcelo and Coentrao aren't really "defenders" playing in attack. They can both play on the LW as good if not better than they can in their respective roles as LB, certainly more so than putting Coentrao as a RB.

Yeah they can, but the contribution of a forward like Benzema is much more valuable, even ronaldo. I have often seen Marcelo playing LW i dont like it. Coentrao is much faster than he is and he will certainly get his way overlapping but not my preference and i think our game will become somewhat predictable.

I apreciate having legit goalscorers on the pitch that will bring the danger from different avenues, and players who know how to score goals and finish. having higuain/benzema + Ronaldo is a great thing, two potent goalscoring sources that can understand attacking movements and get themselves in a position to score. and we can count on di maria and ozil to help as well.

Also, why did mourinho brought back the likes of Callejon if the idea is to have Coentrao play back up winger, specially when things point toward us playing a lot of 433 next season as well.

I just don't see why he has to come here.

Just let Mourinho coach Portugal as well so he can get his Coentrao fetish fulfilled there.

Either bring Ade back or sign Aguero, don't let Benz out yet, sign another DM if Lass leaves, let Leon and Gago go.

you guys dont get it, we arent gonna play inter style, mourinho wants madrid to play great football, with great counter attacking emphasis.

he will make build up play better next season, but when someone mentions play like inter, they mean have great assets like that inter team had in 09/10

Doesnt really make same in way tmo, Mourinho already has an attacking fullback in Marcelo. Inter didnt play with two attacking fullbacks. Maicon was going up, Zanetti/Chivu would occupy withdrawn positions.

If anything it suggest that we will put an emphasis in playing with 3 midfielders, and the fullback will provide width on both side.

Zanetti does attack, as far as I know. And he played at the LB position against Barca and Maicon in RB, thus using 2 attacking fullbacks

Nah Zanetti was busy with Messi. He wasn't attacking much.

Zanetti does attack however in other games, might not worked out very well for Zanetti that game. I can't imagine any fullback attacking if Messi is pressuring you honestly.

He kept Messi in his' pocket though. Awesome performance by Zanetti that was.

Zanetti attacks as much as Arbeloa. he isnt a genuine attacking fullback, he will go up of course, but again, Arbeloa goes up as well.

When Zanetti attacks, he makes you jump out of your seat.

2 attacking FB's are better than 1 but it leaves us a bit open unless we play a high line.

Let's be honest, like Iniesta, I doubt Zanetti knows what his real position is :p
