Re: The Liverpool injury Thread
I agree with RO, I know LB is a position from long time we are looking to have adequate depth. But Gleno as back up and Kelly will be available most likely before that. I think we should fully concentrate on a midfielder this Jan window

Re: The Liverpool injury Thread
I don't personally rate Cissokho and given his youth I'm not convinced Flanagan can manage the consistency necessary to be a proper option for LB yet. If a reasonable deal is available for a good LB in January I'd move for him... That's just my suggestion for how we'll cope UNTIL January.

Re: The Liverpool injury Thread
I know Flanagan can play LB but he's not even a natural LB. It's really going to hurt us.

Dont see how playing Flano or Cissokho at LB is any different. Maybe Cissokho crosses better. That's it.

Re: The Liverpool injury Thread
I'd honestly play Johnson at LB, and Kelly at RB.
Johnson is our best option on the left hand side. (I think he likes it more as well as he can cut onto his right foot. No idea why but he also seems more disciplined on the left hand side and defends better whilst on the left.)
Kelly is a lot better than Flanagan and Cissokho and is defensively sound. He's not going to get match fit off the bench...

I'm not keen on having Johnson as LB. He is very good going forward as RB, not as good at it in the LB position. Why cannot Kelly play LB? I think him playing in his unfavourable flank would take less away from our game than Johnson playing in his.

Re: The Liverpool injury Thread
Johnson is as good, if not better on the left hand side attacking. He's better at defending on the left hand side, too. It's also the best thing for Liverpool.

Re: The Liverpool injury Thread
Well I've heard a month, so I'm getting quite scared right now, regardless what the results show, he shouldn't even be mentioned for the hull game. If this turns out to be a month spell he will miss all of December and 3 crucial matches. Would be bad news for us, we need him in the team to provide another threat and give more space for suarez.

Re: The Liverpool injury Thread
Well, we don't know exact news about the injury yet... With an ankle ligament injury I guess it could be anything between a few weeks to a few months...
Really need our midfielders to up their attacking game in Sturridge's absence.

I think those are all rumors. We don't really know how serious the injury is just yet so it's impossible to put a date on it.

Re: The Liverpool injury Thread
Sturridge potentially being out for January is obviously a big blow to the squad, as his inclusion offers us far more threat in the attacking third. Moreover, depth at ST could be a critical issue in the congested holiday schedule. Even if everyone is "fit", appearances like Sturridge's against Everton could prove the difference in some of the matches in the next month.
However, the silver lining to this injury is that Rodgers will be freed to play 3 midfielders in their natural positions against some of the "bigger" matches. This could help us keep more control of matches, even against the other "big" sides. Granted, it's a small consolation, and I would personally prefer to have Sturridge on the pitch. However, the extra midfielder could prove useful in some of the fixtures.

Re: The Liverpool injury Thread
sturridge is out for 2 months, confirmed.
@ above: we can play 3 midfielders with suarez and sturridge up top, it's not hard. a 4312 would of worked, we could of easily played a 4321 too. suarez' best position is that "rf" role. where he doesn't have 2 defenders on him all the time, and actually has time on the ball. he showed that where he played next to KJH at ajax...

Re: The Liverpool injury Thread
So we've got both Sturridge and Enrique returning some time in February.
Coates is out for the season. But everyone else is fit.
Only 2 first teamers out but it feels so much worse.

Gerrard missing out against Spurs could be a blessing in disguise. I just hope he misses that game though and is back against Cardiff at home.

I am so curious what tactics BR uses this time against Spurs. I have a feeling if he sets the team properly we can get something out of that game

Re: The Liverpool injury Thread
Told you should have rested Gerrard for this game
Anyway, hopefully it's not a serious hamstring injury, we need all our CMs.

Re: The Liverpool injury Thread
yeah if Gerrard doesnt start, the best opportunity for Hendo and Allen to impress BR and let him know that they can also take care of the position in absence of Gerrard. So it may go as i had thought in the west ham thread, get in all three alberto, hendo and Allen...stuff them with full confidence and we will walk over at WHL

If it's his hamstring he'll be out for at least a month.McAgger wrote:Gerrard missing out against Spurs could be a blessing in disguise. I just hope he misses that game though and is back against Cardiff at home.
Playing a 34 year old 3 times in 1 week when we didn't even need him (we're solid at home).

The way he pulled up and held his thigh, yes, it's hamstring. Didn't seem that bad, though.

F*ck
We're not going to have 3 of our sure starters and best players for the hardest month of the season.

Re: The Liverpool injury Thread
I thought it would be the time to experience without Gerrard, but obviously I didn't want it to be because of injury - although realistically that apparently was the only way it was going to happen.

Re: The Liverpool injury Thread
I'm not going to lie I think we have a better shot at getting something from Chelsea, City, and Spurs away without Gerrard as this season has shown we get completely overrun in midfield by better teams especially away from home. And realistically Rodgers was never going to drop Stevie.
Which is why after the game I said his injury could be a blessing in disguise. However I do think we'll miss him against Cardiff and Hull as his distribution is imperative against smaller teams.
