Re: Cryuff vs Beckenbauer face to face
Just noticed there's a lack of pressing the Midfield here.

Re: Cryuff vs Beckenbauer face to face
As you can clearly see pressing didnt exist because goal keepers can grab a back pass with hand..
Also unbelievable how good and calm was becks on the ball

Re: Cryuff vs Beckenbauer face to face
Pressing was only introduced to the game by ajax and dynamoi kiev, other teams just stood off into their own halves. That is the mahjor difference between the modern game and the pre-1980s football. That inal was the only time during the whole turnament that the netherlands ddin't press rigourously, telling sign...

This is the major difference along with the massive pay increases.
Salary's went up like this.
1950+
1960++
1970+++
1980+++++++++++
1990+++++++++++++++++
2000+++++++++++++++++++++++++
You see where the trend is going.

Re: Cryuff vs Beckenbauer face to face
I've seen that, but shit does it give me the goosebumps.
The Kaiser does everything. Tackles, intercepts, passes, shoots, dictates tempo, and makes you cum all at once. Most complete player, evah.
Cryuff has insane footwork, and you have to take into account that heavy assed ball they used back then. He picks up the ball from deep, no probs. You have to foul him to stop him. Anyone notice how hard tackles were back then? Oh, and he launches a counter attack from a tackle. I guess tackles existed back then.
These guys don't come often, oh no.

Re: Cryuff vs Beckenbauer face to face
Most of those tackles will be straight red cards in todays game btw
Actually that 1992 rule of back passing has a big influence on todays game,game itself evolved based on that law..

The changing of the offside rule was a BS move, they need to change it back...

Re: Cryuff vs Beckenbauer face to face
I watched the 1970 quarter between Germany & England about two weeks ago. That was some amazing stuff there, too. One really has to remember the heavier balls - the guys did awesome stuff nonetheless. KUdos!

There was a time where I would play Footy with a Basketball.
Not so different, tbh.

Re: Cryuff vs Beckenbauer face to face
Imagine the power when Rainer Bonhof did one of his 130km/h free kicks with that good old leather ball! It was not rare that a goalkeeper prefered to take cover instead of getting hit with that!

People on this forum have never known shit about defenders, so it doesn't bother me. The Kaiser's the Kaiser.
And that's that.

LOL this is BS who has said that?
I know people have compared Pique to the Kaiser but thats only because along with Hummels he is the closest thing we have to a " Modern day Kaiser"
Both Pique and Hummels will not get anywhere near to The Kaiser tho.
What a stud

Re: Cryuff vs Beckenbauer face to face
The amount of time on the ball is staggering, especially for Beckenbauer.
Thats not to discredit either of course, because when they were pressured they got out of it too.
Just the general speed of the game is considerably slower, players clearly less athletic and much more time to make a decision.
Those 2 clearly are elite though, Cryuff has such a responsibilty its amazing. He is all over the pitch controlling the action, no player I have ever seen has had that much responsibilty in a team.

Re: Cryuff vs Beckenbauer face to face
You haven't seen Di Stefano, it's even more ridiculous. He'd run back from the opponents goal and take the ball from a team mate next to his goal keeper LOL

Slow football where defenders are allowed to break your legs.
