Next season if we go attacking then watch Ronaldo destroy them .
TBF, CR messed up badly during the CDR final, he only redeemed himself with scoring the winner.
I think Real Madrid should move to a new form of midfield play, moving to an essentially striker-less formation. Ronaldo doesn't really fit in that model imo. I agree with Nick in that. Players like Ozil and Alonso in the midfield and also Benzema etc. do not benefit from the presence of a CR. It is his individual class that makes him valuable, but I wonder if that offsets the "harm" he does to RM's overall game.
I don't really think he messed up in the final, he missed one good chance the rest were half chances but in the end he got us the winner. If you look at the first leg semi we defended with 11 men all Ronaldo could do is chase the ball tbf and forget Benzema going into midfield.

Re: Sell C.Ronaldo thread!
I'm one of the first to critize Ronaldo saying this past year he lost his touch with the free kicks, that he is immature (and hurtful to himself and team) with his constant complaining and that he is selfish not a team player.
However I still believe he is # 2 in the game right now and by quite a margin. I did see times near the end of the year when he was making good passes (although there is a problem in that his team mates don't expect it) and he finally got a couple of free kick goals at end of year. I would hope that Mou could teach him a lesson about his constant complaining, but that's like asking an alcololic to teach someone to stop drinking. I would hope with the improved passing game we are expecting this year that he can become more of a team player (not be as selfish and make more plays and passes). However, I don't hold out much hope for him fixing his whining ways.

Re: Sell C.Ronaldo thread!
clasico? very little possesion => chances created much less than usual
ronaldo still got service though, not as much as usual of course, which is understandable, and he's pretty wasteful with that tbh, ex: copa del rey
and ronaldo's hugging the ball tendency didn't help either in keeping possesion

IMO, the 3-1 against Racing Santander.
Racing Santander?! That was a nice match but that shouldn't be an indicator to how life without Cristiano would be like. If it were against Tottenham, Lyon or even Barcelona and we played the same way, then yeah but Racing?! Nah bro, I rather not agree to such things...

Agreed, with all due respect to the club we should be pummeling racing 5-0 or 6-0

It was just in terms of style - we played completely different than we usually do, and it was the most entertaining match I've seen us play this year. What does it matter which opponent it was? We steamrolled over pretty much every team except for Barcelona this year anyway.

Re: Sell C.Ronaldo thread!
I take it the biggest problem some have with Cr7 is that his contributions to the team build up play does more harm than good?
Or that some believe you'd become a better allround "team" without an egostist like Ronaldo in the side?
Or that you'll be able to play better against Barca without him?
Granted that this is all hypothetical , because i see no sense in selling the 2 best player in the world who so happens to be in his prime.
Robben as you know also hogs the ball and plays towards his individual strenghts much like Cr7 , your concern about Ronaldo polarising your play seems like a valid one, but which great team in the world doesn't have such a player. Yes you can replace ronaldo, but will you find a replacement that can match his productivety not so likely.
The burden of your team's success lies heavier on the shoulders of Mou and Ronaldo and naturally they would recieve the most critisism.
Anyway both sides make good points, but the reality is you will keep Ronaldo until his star status fades.

I've moved away from the idea that he needs to be sold now that I've calmed down a bit. I'm now part of the new-school discussion promoting C.Ronaldo as a full on forward in a system that has two up front. If his greatest strength is and always has been scoring, then why not play him as a striker?! More talented passers of the ball can then create more goal-scoring opportunities for him instead of just releasing him into space.

Can't argue against the entertainment part as I too found it was great link up play all around but I would say the opponent does matter. It matters quite a bit actually...

Well of course the opponent counts, but I just meant that as a team, we played very differently than we did in all our other matches, and no one can deny part of the reason we saw this new chemistry between the team was because of Ronaldo's absence.
In that regard, the opponent didn't really matter. We even could have lost and I would have said the same. It was just the way we played.

+1 more on my bandwagon I seriously hope that he transforms into CF in one season smoothly He's got all the prerequisites, could be as selfish as he wants and tap in whatever, all the parties would be happyGuiltybystander wrote:Doc wrote:Guiltybystander wrote:

We didn't face a top team apart from Barca last season. Spurs and Lyon are mediocre CL teams at best.

Re: Sell C.Ronaldo thread!
I agree with ronaldo being a CF, if the guy can use his strength and speed, he'll be drogba v2 with way better dribbling and ball control. His strength is extrodinary and its one of the reasons his headers go like 100mph

Re: Sell C.Ronaldo thread!
OP:
Dude, I often enjoy your posts, so I know you aren't retarded...
But did you take a blow to the head or something?
I've said it before. 53 goals, 53 goals, 53 goals!
Do you realize what kind of amazing that is?
It is a goal/game average of the highest order.
Ronaldo is, if not the best, among the best players on the planet!!!
That kind of selfishness is important to the team... and believe it or not, Ronaldo has been known to pick a good pass/cross when there's a better opportunity elsewhere...
But, at the end of the day, he puts the ball in the net, and that's what matters.
And do you remember when we beat Barca, in the CDR final?
Who scored the goal? and for that matter, who crossed it?
CR7 is an amazing player, and we can have unselfish team players all over the pitch...
It's all well and good if they can pass the ball around the goalkeeper, but if they can't take the initiative to shoot, or if they don't have the ability to score, it will count for nothing.
Ronaldo is our final product and he's indispensable.
If he were to be sold, we wouldn't stand a chance to beat Barca or United or AC Milan or whoever...

Re: Sell C.Ronaldo thread!
Get ready for it, we are going to have 2 of them next year at both wings.
We're going to have a passing machine down the middle (Alonso, Sahin, Ozil, Benz) and then pass it to the wing to dribble to no where!!! Neymar is almost exactly the same (even personality) as Ronaldo.
