Matri back in National... Empty Matri back in National...

Post by Cotes Thu Nov 03, 2011 7:22 am

Looks set to further thicken the patrol in the National Juventus. According to "La Gazzetta dello Sport," Prandelli has already decided to include in the near future squad striker Alessandro Matri, star of the league leaders Juventus. The strong striker Sant'Angelo Lodi should be available to the coach for the upcoming friendlies against Poland and Uruguay. One call - look at the rosy - which could give another record to Juve Count: seven players in blue, will be confirmed if the various Buffon, Pirlo, Marchisio, Barzagli, Chiellini and Bonucci.

4-3-1-2:

Maggio...Ranocchia...Chiellini...Criscito

Marchisio...Pirlo...De Rossi

Giovinco

Matri...Balotelli

I can live with this for sure. It sucks that both Cassano and Rossi will most likel;y be out for the Euros, but I am also excited to see Giovinco and Balotelli play together and play beautiful music. Also, I knew Matri would get the callup now that he is back on form. He and Balotelli could form a powerful partnership up front. With Giovinco in the back acting as a trequartista our attack would be set. The injuries hurt our depth, but with Pazzini, Di Natale and Osvaldo on the bench we still have some good reserves.

But the best part is that we would have 6 Juventini in the starting lineup (Giovinco counted), so that would be amazing for us. Add Balotelli to the mix (I am counting on Marotta to get him in January) and Juventus would be back to where we were before in regards to the national team.

ok hold up...why would u play Ranocchia instead of Barzagli or Bonucci?
Both of them & Chiellini would already have a level of understanding from playing in Juve...
Pepe need to be called up as well...

I think we should try barzagli and ranocchia.

Di Natale better? Your dreaming right?

I completely agree and have Chiellini go on the left. Though... fullbacks are required to push forward a lot for Italy, so forget that. Chiellini has to start everytime... Atleast its good to see lots of depth for CB position.

Cassano is irreplaceable in my opinion.
Balotelli and Giovinco are going to have to do some great things.

What are the odds that out of soooo many footballers that the 2 first team strikers for Italy both suffer severe long term injuries within a week or 2 of each other. It's incredible in a bad way.

But, Italy should have no problem replacing them. And from a selfish viewpoint it's great to also have a Juventus striker in the team now.

No I meant I'd rather see Giovinco Matri Balotelli over Rossi Cassano Montolivo, too much creativity there, not enough goal scoring. My comment had nothing to do with our subs.

And I think Criscito LB > Chiellini LB

I think a sub position for Chiellini would be a nice kick in the butt for him to regain form before euros.

Criscito will offer much more going forward than Chiellini that is for sure but I think it more depends on match ups. Such as the presence of a gifted attacker on the opposition right side- Chiellini.
A 'smaller' team that defends, Criscito.

I would love to see if Giovinco-Matri had chemistry as well as Balotelli but the first two names could be a future Juventus partnership too (lol)

Barzagli IS a beast right now, so he may have the upper hand on Ranocchia to start. But something tells me that Ranocchia will be the starter come June 2012. Ranocchia has great potential and hopefully he is playing at a top level next year. If he is then Ranocchia is the choice. Prandelli will prefer the younger players.

As for Chiellini at LB, I think it is a non-option at this point. Chiellini will stay in the middle for La Nazionale, as we have 2 good LB's in Criscito, who will be the starter, and Balzaretti. Two ex-Juventini by the way.

I don't think you're crazy at all. I would actually take Giovinco, Matri and Balotelli ahead of Cassano, Rossi and Montolivo as well. More power, creativity and goal scoring ability with the first three. As a matter of fact, Matri > Rossi as a prima punta, Giovinco > Montolivo as a trequartista and Balo > Cassano as a support striker. I prefer Cassano as a trequartista myself but I think Giovinco has that covered if we need him there.

Although I agree Pino, where is the defensive aspect?

Giovinco's height already ruins it when it comes to defending. Compared to Montolivo, different story.

Balotelli, although he's strong.. is lazy at tracking back.

Matri is not able to defend for his life.

Well that is why we have De Rossi, Marchisio, Chiellini, Ranocchia and Buffon. They are the defense. You can't have every player tracking back and playing solid defensively, it just never happens. Messi sucks defensively but nobody complains that he doesn't track back, same with Villa and Silva.

At the end of the day you need the players who are gonna be able to create offensively and score, while having strong defensive midfielders and a strong backline to defend your goal. With Giovinco, Balotelli and Matri we have a combination of size, strength and goal scoring ability as well as creativity from Giovinco. We then have the great defensive abilities of De Rossi, Motta and Marchisio to defend the other teams forwards, and with Ranocchia and Chiellini on top of their game, we have the wall on defense. And then the legend Gigi in goal. With Maggio and Criscito, we have two fullbacks who can push forward and create offensive chances as well as hold their own on the defensive side.

Overall, I think we have a complete team with the above mentioned players, and although it sucks that we have lost Cassano and Rossi, hopefully we don't sustain any other injuries going forward. If we don't, then in my opinion La Nazionale, with the players above, have the ability to compete with Spain, Germany and Holland for the European Championship.
