Podolski talks up Arsenal as Wenger eyes £20m January move for Germany striker

Lukas Podolski has encouraged Arsenal to keep up their pursuit by describing Arsene Wenger's side as a 'top club'.

Wenger is keen to sign the Germany striker from Cologne for £20million in January amid uncertainty about Robin van Persie's future at the club.

Podolski has been dismayed by his side's poor performances and talks to extend his contract beyond 2013 have stalled.

Asked about Arsenal's interest, the 26-year-old said with a smile: 'Arsenal are a top club. They have a good team and play right at the top level in England.'

They are already out of the German cup and are not playing in Europe this season, which is a far cry from the level of club Podolski thought he was joining when he left Bayern Munich in 2009.

Earlier this week he admitted he could his hometown club, saying: 'My family and friends may live here, but if I am in top condition, then I think I could fit into any side in Europe. I am not forced to stay only in Cologne.'

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is considering a move for Internacional striker Leandro Damiao.

The Daily Mail says Tottenham twice bid for the 22-year-old Internacional hotshot last summer but fell short of the £15million asking price, which has now rocketed up to approaching £25m.

Juventus have also made Damiao a top target, and his agent, Vinicius Prates, has been in Turin for talks with the Italian giants this week.

His signing would prove to Van Persie that the club can still attract top talent, after losing Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona and Samir Nasri to Manchester City last summer.

According to Inside Futbol, Arsenal, Newcastle United, Schalke and Valencia are in a four-way tussle for Montpellier striker Olivier Giroud.

The 25-year-old Chambery-born striker joined Montpellier in January 2010 and has scored 23 goals in 51 league appearances for the French club.

He has also appeared twice for the French national team.

The imposing striker, who stands at close to 6'4", has been in sparkling form this season, scoring 13 goals in all competitions. He leads all comers with 11 goals in the French league, including a hat trick last weekend against Sochaux.

Giroud would be an ideal replacement for Marouane Chamakh, who is rumored to be on his way out of Arsenal in January. French big spenders PSG would be his most likely destination.

We knew about the Podolski quotes. They sound encouraging, but like with every transfer rumour it's best to wait and see.

As for Fabian: reports state that his relatives revealed he had signed for Arsenal, but Wenger has denied it. It's something we have to take with a pinch of salt until a more reputable source reports it.

Incidentally, Walcott > Krasic.

I ave high hopes for us during the transfer market. Wenger will make an un-wenger like purchase. Unfortunately Hazard is out of our reach now, but we will get Goetze, Sow and Podolski . Here is to hope
