Defenders with good attacking skills get hyped up so much easier than defenders who are great just at defending. Attacking contributions are much easier to notice than efforts in defence.
We always see highlights of "successful" attacking runs, hence we never see the number of runs thwarted by a good defense.
Goals and attacks are the most commercial aspect of the the game, and thus get the most hype.
@Arq; shouldn't you change your sig by now mate

Not worth his 93 Defense stat in PES. Rami goes forward but is solid at the back.
Ricardo Costa's another example.
Ramos, IMO, is the best at going to Attack. Needs more experience though.
Puyol is another good one.
Are you saying that puyol is only rated because he is good going forward?
Puyol is easily our worst ball playing defender/player

Tbf marcelo hits the spot if going by the title, superb offensively but sometimes lacks to defend, but its a very rare from him anymore, he has been improved under Mou. Anyway, someone mentioned about pique, I rate him as mediocre, everyday I see better player who can do better job offensively and defensively than him.

There are players who are very good attacking CB's but cant defend, and there are players who can do both.
It's not just all attacking cbs. and keeping a cool head and not hoofing it and distributing is much harder then it looks on tv

Verm is good in both attacking and defending
Lucio also
I disagree about TS, remember when he played CDM for us. There's a difference between bring the ball up from the back and bringing the ball through the midfield. He's brilliant, but I don't think he could consistently do that if asked to play the midfield role.

Yes, it's normal. People naturally pay attention to flashy attacks. It's why flashy players get all the hype while we know of much more solid ones we'd rather have in our teams.
Or why the Ballon d'or almost always goes to an attacking player.
Players who are solid defending but good attacking? Hummels. Boy, can he pass, yet is a wall, too. LĂșcio in his prime was great. Vermaelen is so damn vital to Arsenal, just look at our record once he was injured.
Badstuber can create a lot and is (currently) a decent defender.
