Liverpool V Manchester United
Huge match against our biggest rivals and I think this will be our toughest game of the season so far. for the past 3 seasons, we have lost at Anfield, especially last season when they outplayed us and beat us pretty easily. Good thing is SAF has said there is a possibility that Smalling, Vidic and Cleverley will be fit in 2 weeks time, whether they are ready to play in a match of this magnitude is another matter. Hopefully Vidic will be ready, he is so important as he gives our defence so much confidence and we will need him to combat Carroll's physical & aerial threat. Along with Jones, whose mobility and pace will deal with Saurez. If we allow the chances that Chelsea, Basl and Norwich had, we will be in for a rude awakening...especially at Anfield.
In the middle is where we usually struggle at Anfield, I don't know if SAF will sacrifice either Welbeck or Chicha, both of whom will trouble LFC's backline with their pace and movement, for an extra midfielder to ensure we don't get overrun in the middle like we usually do there. I would absolutely love it if Cleverley can be fit for this as his ability to keep the ball and find a pass in tight spaces would allow us to play 4 in the middle + Rooney can drop into the middle to help out. Really interesting to see what formation we will play for this match.
My formation if I was to choose, and depending how fast players can make it back to match fitness is:
DDG
Jones
Vidic
Ferdinand
Evra
Nani
Cleverley
Anderson
Young
Welbeck
Rooney
A lot of pace in that side, especially in attack. LFC will come at us from the get go like they usually do, it will be important we bide our time and be patient, then hit them on the counter...LFC will eventually tire, then we can start to take control of the game and kill them off.
Hopefully none of our players will fall for Suarez's antics too and keep their discipline, he will try to rile them up, and hopefully none of our players get injured during their international games.

Re: Liverpool V Manchester United
Don't want to sound pessimistic but I can't see Utd winning this one.
Liverpool always play like possessed men against us and there is a mental block at Anfield for a few years now.
Though we might finally have won at Stamford last year, Anfield is a whole different arena.
Welbeck is a must-start though, Hernandez first touch is really poor and we can't allow lost balls in this kind of game.

with a full healthy squad which we should have i can see us winning this...Liverpool have let some weak teams take it to them this year. Unless of course that butcher Carragher decided to take a chunk of Nani or someone else again....wouldn't be the first time the opposition has done that this year

I pretty much agree with Azzurres, but I don't know I can still see us winning, as Liverpool haven't been impressive as I thought they would have. If we have our strongest XI we'll have a very very good chance imo.

Even when we play Barcelona, I'd HOPE for a 10-0 win.
Weird to hope for a draw mate

Liverpool always raise their game against United at Anfield. Utd are by no means favourites for this match. I do agree it will be a close contest where it could be a draw or a single goal will win it. I also don't think you guys will have as easy as you did last season against us at Anfield, we're getting all our first teamers back just in time for this match. The question is if they are fit in enough to start and finish the whole 90 mins.

We;'ve faced all the big teams so far and won. I hope we can get Vidic and Cleverley back because Evans is really a liability, he is so scared of a physical confrontation, he piucked the wrong sport.

Not too confident on this one, given our recent runs at Anfield...
But we're still slight favorites for this. If we play like we have recently, though, we're completely screwed.

Re: Liverpool V Manchester United
My heart says United can pull a win, my head says we're gonna screw it up!
The thing is, I don't know which United will pull up on Saturday-The confident one who have been on form or the one that goes in it's shell whenever they go to Anfield..... like the past 3 seasons..

Re: Liverpool V Manchester United
With our team still gelling , injuries to our defnece and Gerrard not still fully fit i think United are favourites tbh.
Also is Flecter not fit.If he is fit i dont think Fergie will start without him.I very much doubt he will make the same doubt as last year.
As for prediction unless we change to 4-3-3 from our usual 4-4-2 formation i not confident we will win against United. We need to play Spearing in CM if Gerrard is not fit.Heart say 2-1 head says 1-1 hopefully we can eek out a comfortable win as usual.

^^ I am not 100% sure if Fletcher is fit. A lot of talk was of how he was too ill to start for Scotland last week. We'll prolly know more by Thursday/Friday.

Re: Liverpool V Manchester United
^^ fantastic news too. I can see SAF playing a midfield trio of Carrick, Fletcher and Anderson too. Have Rooney upfront on his own supported in the flanks by Nani and Young, we can then introduce Welbeck or Chicha once L'pool get tired and either one of the players can cause more problems.
I can really see that happening on Saturday. Another good news is that Vidic is fit again and played the entire 90 mins for Serbia last night.

Re: Liverpool V Manchester United
Could go either way.
If our CBs get destroyed by your pace, we'll probably lose.
If they don't and we are able to control the midfield and possession, we should win.
I could live with a draw.
BUT GODDAMN I WANT TO WIN!!!

We need to change things, we aren't offering nothing up front at all. It's good that we are closing spaces down well and congesting that midfield but we also need to score some goals.
Time to bring on Nani and Rooney.

Re: Liverpool V Manchester United
1-1 was the right result! But we never seem to get that bit of luck at Anfield and it happened again when adam won them a FK by diving and then Giggs getting out the way to let the ball through for the goal.
But as soon as Rooney and Nani came on and then Chicha, we looked so deadly. the movement was fantastic and we looked more threatening in the final 3rd.
Glad Chicha got us the goal.
MOTM is between DDG and Rio, the latter looked world class and kept Suarez quite!
1-1 was the right result and I am happy we didn't lose there.

Re: Liverpool V Manchester United
1-1 was a refief considering the team that played today for the majority of the game, I still feel like Utd could have nicked it at the end.
Too bad we did not have Vidic, Cleverley, Anderson, Rooney, Nani, Young on the field and at the same time today, we are due a win at Anfield for a while now.

We could have definitely won it if Nani and Rooney came on 10 mins earlier....but we also could have lost it too.
We will get them at OT.

Re: Liverpool V Manchester United
De Gea MOTM, future world no.1 GK.
Ferdinand back to his best.
With the XI that played today and getting a 1-1 draw, not too bad.
Last but not least, Hernandez is a beast and a nice a finish too.

There was contact, Even though it was minimal, If the free kick was given Rio should have got his second yellow..
