Re: Mesut Ozil discussion
He can.
What does it take to be a good CM? You need eagle vision, good dribbling skills, great ball control and alot of trust from your team mates.
That's my opinion of course.
What was the best goal that madrid scored this season? wasnt it the fast break against i forgot which team in La Liga where it all started by a pass from teh maestro?

Nope.
It was started by Ozil......who made 2 key passes in the goal.
Kaka may have laid the ball off to Cristiano in their 1-2 it was just a touch really

Re: Mesut Ozil discussion
Saw this post in a forum, thought it was interesting.
One word to describe Real's number 10: simplicity.
No super spectular dribbles, no phenomal passes, not a wonderful shooter.. he keeps everything simple. Reading that you might think why is he rated so highly? Well the great Johan Cruyff once said: Voetbal is simpel. Het is echter moeilijk om simpel te voetballen. For those of you who don't understand Dutch, I advice Google Translate. Nahh I'm just kidding, what he said was: Football is simple. Playing simple football though is hard. I don't think anyone could put it better. And that's Özil for ya. Good simple and very very effective. Don't get me wrong, he's definitely capable of doing some highly impressive stuff but he doesn't most of the time. He plays a simple and logical game.
I'd like to say that even though Ozil's been performing well since he's been at Real, he's actually not suited to Real's game. Real play in a very direct way, hitting their opponents on the break a lot. A game built around CR. But Ozil is best suited to a possession football style, dominating the game, constantly moving around and linking up basically. The likes of Cristiano and Di Maria just aren't on the same wavelength as him (and play a totally different game), Benzema and Xabi Alonso are the only ones who are. I'm convinced that if Mourinho or any other manager were to build the team around Ozil, Real would become stronger as a team and would be able to challenge Barca.

Re: Mesut Ozil discussion
yeah interesting. Good points made.
But simple or not wont cut it for us. I sympathize with Ozil and his fans, but now is not the time for sympathy.
We need to be honest with ourselves and direct in our approach. Number 8 has to start. Period.

Re: Mesut Ozil discussion
The goal.com article and the post by El Pipta are really insightful. And these sentiments pretty much echo what Ozil's father mentioned a while back:
"Just look at how Barcelona play. Ten players are all running their socks off for Lionel Messi.
"Mesut is the No. 10 as well at Madrid, but the other players are not working for him. Mesut still runs between 12 and 14 kilometres per game."
Real Madrid must be built around Ozil, and not CR7.
As much as I love players like CR7 and Alonso, I long for the day when the starting line up consists of players that haven't made their glory in previous clubs.

Re: Mesut Ozil discussion
give him his number 23 shirt back
the 10 is clearly cursed, first Lass now Mesut, guess we will not ever see that shirt on a consistent basis on the field

Re: Mesut Ozil discussion
People expected more of him, but he's still good this season:
Admittedly quite erratic, generally played ok but haven't had long enough run of great games (iirc so far at most he only managed to have 2 great games in a row here and there), never had long enough series of mediocare games as well though, and always great at CL bar the game 1.
Don't get the excessive pessimism after he's among the best performers in the team in last 2 games he played (Barca & CDR), didn't really have complain about him vs Barca game except he should've stayed longer on the pitch (but that's not on him) & he's MOTM in last CDR game along with Callejon.

Mahone, good wont cut it for us. Ozil is sucking the play time out of Kaka like a blood-thirsty vampire sucks blood out of its victim. Both players are suffering as of late; and a decision must be made for the greater good of the team.

Ozil could offer a lot more if he played CM and we changed our style a bit.

Re: Mesut Ozil discussion
thats the reason he is not performing, you people (including mou) wanted him more close to CM, which his stopped him from running into space between the last 4 defenders.
when 4 attackers vs 4 defenders, its hard to mark then 4 attackers all the time, that was ozil strength, the moment one of defender left his marker he ozil dribbled one defender while other came to him, it left the attacker free, thats how he got most of his assists.

Re: Mesut Ozil discussion
Superb performance from the little magician. Abidal seemed to not be able to handle him! And his through ball for Ronaldo was really nice. He probably took in a huge amount of confidence from that game and will be more consistent, especially against Barca.
