I understand that it is only 4 games in (including CL) but in 3 of those games he has put in some poor performances. The only good game he had was against Zaragoza in which we won 6-0, but that was hardly a challenge.

You have to take into account the fact that he was bought for around the same price as Fabregas and is now the second most expensive defender in football histor, but was it really worth it? Will Real Madrid regret it? Or will he prove all doubters wrong?

Imo when Sahin is fit he will only see time coming off the bench.

It's 4 games. Anyway, the lad is a left back, so if he will not play there, he will definitely flop. Doesn't have enough quality for a LW (not more than CR, Higuain or Di Maria at least), and is not adapted to CM or other positions.

Some of us already said it was stupid to buy Coentrao for 30 milions to be played out of position.

Well I thought he was the most expensive defender in history of football, everyone knew that Madrid didn't not need him especially since they already have Marcelo who was much better and his price tag was ridiculously expensive.

Look at Rafinha for example Bayern payed 5m for him and he has produced series of wonderful performance.

Moreover things will only get worst for him well Sahin is back from Injury and Marcelona and Khedirah hit top form again.

Not fair to judeg, the guy is being punished for his supposed versatility. MAdrid attack up front depends on reasonable ball control and quick movement and when he plays centrally I noticed he prevents Marcelo from getting invovled. He is not being played in his favourite position. MAdrid really need Sahin.

Idiotic buy, I can think of many clubs who he would have been better off choosing, now he has to live with his mistake.

On a side note, I like people’s blind faith in Mourinho.

I know it’s early to tell but as for now, he doesn’t seem to be able to get the best from him

And whatever happened to Hamit Atlintop.?

Altintop was never meant to be an impact player though.
Not to mention he didn’t cost an astronomic amount to the club.
So it’s no big deal.

Coentrao on the other hand…

I don't things would get much better for him, when everyone is fit and available he will be on the bench. He wont really adapt with time since he won't be involved as much. At the time I was furious with this transfer and he has done nothing to change my mind.

The only way to judge whether he's a failure or not is to play him in his preferred position and let him play atleast 20 games. Until then the jury's out.

Only option that made sense for 30m was to play as RB and have Ramos – Pepe as CB which Mou hasn’t tried yet if I remember correctly.
Everything else would be pretty much a waste of money, unless vast improvement is shown in the near future

Wouldnt call him a flop yet, since he has alot to improve and I havent seen him enough to call him a flop. He is a shaky player, but we dont particularly have a bad game either, when hes playing. Time will say how what hes capable of.

A new signing needs to play very well in his first days to borst his confidence and gain the manager trust, otherwise this may need to him being a flop and to be fair the coach has given him very fair amount of playing time and he needs to utilise all his chance like Aguero and Rafinha are doing especially if you have very good team mates that are competing for thesame position.

I feel really sorry for him, I hope he doesn't end up like Quaresma.

Just to clarify, I don’t really think he’s a flop signing from a performance point of view rather than a decision flop.
30m could have been spent somewhere else with more impact IMO.

Although, it is early indeed. Who knows, maybe injuries will force him into the starting 11 in his preferred position or something like that.

To me I think his the best Left back Madrid can ever get, His been in their system for a very long time now and his still a very young player who is still developing to become a wordclass. I could not understand why Mardid decided to buy him especially for that price.

I agree, but playing someone out of position is hardly the way to go if you want to boost a player's confidence. It can backfire sometimes.

Still, I hope that Mourinho goes with a Pepe-Ramos partnership and plays Coentrao where he wants to play. He is an excellent player, will no doubt shine for Madrid if the coach is patient enough.

Average player who is still riding the hype of a couple good performances at 2010 WC......

He's a good player though but I think we should wait until he plays more matches for us before we judge him.

Sorry mate, i went to bed quite early last night because i had an hospital appointment early this morning so i didnt get the chance.....
