Re: Mistake not to sell Modric for 40M pound?
It's a huge mistake. Even with Modric they are not going to make the Champions league. Bale, VDV, and Modric are not going to sit around for two straight years with no Champions League and there coach is going to take the England job after this year.
They should have taken a page out of Liverpool's book who was in a worse situation and sell there overrated "star" player for an obsurd fee that he's not worth and use the money to get the dead weight out and buy good young players for the future.
I think some of these teams in the EPL are very slow to recognize what's going on in there league.
Man United is now one of the youngest teams in the league (crazy how SAF refreshed there squad) and is going to be in beast mode for about ten years and a staple in the top 4.
Liverpool got rid of there dead weight, got younger and some new owners who seem to be making great moves minus the Carrol one but they also will be a staple in the top 4 for years to come,
Man City has the deepest team in Europe and no ones going to get them out of the top 4 until the world runs out of oil.
This may be the year to knock Chelsea out, but it looks as if Roman made some very solid buys and they have a team deserving to be in the top 4 and will probably be a staple if Roman keeps his interest in the team.
Basically, if you don't have one of the world richest men owning your team in the EPL you may not see the Champions League again.
It's not worth it for Tottenham to make "one last run" with this group and not cash in to build for the future. They may look close to making the Champions League but they are very far away and need to overhaul that team. It would have been better to start now because every year they waste is going to be hell trying to catch up.
Man City, Liverpool, Man United, and Chelsea see what's happening, let's see how long it takes these other teams to realize it.

Re: Mistake not to sell Modric for 40M pound?
Our bid was 30m pounds+ Alex.
Spurs were so stupid to reject this bid, just like we were stupid to actually make it. They could have signed Meireles for 12m, and gotten someone good for 18m + have a world class defender in Alex.
It was probably all down to stubbornness eventually, someone which they will regret.

Re: Mistake not to sell Modric for 40M pound?
£30m + Alex, nobody would've blamed them had they accepted.
But obviously they want to be ambitious, having finished in the top 4 two seasons ago. Harry looks like he's got no motivation to go down, managing a middle table team again. He wants to push towards that CL spot. Also, if you sell Modric, there's the danger that someone like Van der Vaart begins to want out as well.
I think Spurs have got a good team on paper, we'll see how they shall do.

They also have better depth.Since arsenal hasn't shown any grit or heart that will genuinely boost their performance for a while now , it's safe to say that they are very vurnerable to being eclipsed by tottenham.

Another case of adding +5m-10m whenever Chelsea make a bid/signing.
