After Ajax & Valencia, Spurs & PSG also lose their own thread. Same is going to happen to Dortmund. Leverkusen, Atletico, Napoli never had any. It's weird. I though I follow too little.

What do you think about Di Maria + cash for Bale?
I think it's interesting but it obviously depends on the cash.

Re: The Official Tottenham Hotspur Thread
I rate Di Maria probably higher than any other player at Madrid, so for me this is a case of losing a player we are probably going to lose anyways, and gaining a world class player who is looking for a place to love him.
I agree though, it all comes down to the cash involved, but if we got Di Maria and anything from 35-40 million I'd be pretty happy with that deal. Hell, I rate Di Maria so highly I'd be happy with 30 million in a player plus cash deal, but I want Levy to bleed Madrid dry

Re: The Official Tottenham Hotspur Thread
I would also add, that I think Di Maria offers that one thing we seemed to be missing in most games this past season, which was a player who could consistently deliver decisive balls into the final third. I think we would lose Bale's goals, but I think a player of Di Maria's ability is someone who would be the key to opening up the production of the entire offense and not just one player.
Outside of DemPele of course.

Re: The Official Tottenham Hotspur Thread
I agree, of course what would have to happen is for us to buy a class CF to be able to put those chances away, and probably buy another winger who will chip in with a fair amount of goals. I mean how many goals did Bale score this year? 28 or so? Di Maria would likely get 5-10, so we need to be replacing those extra 18 or so goals, and I'm not sure that's up to just one striker. Besides it would be good to be a threat with 3 or 4 players being able to score up front in one starting XI, rather than last season where it was just Bale.
The problem is his inconsistency. Di Maria is just...you never know whether he'll be brilliant or awful. There is no doubt in my mind that Di Maria can get close to Bale's level if he can reach a consistently brilliant level like he can. Is it worth a shot?
I'd be willing to take 40 million pounds + Di Maria and upwards. Lowest I'd go is 35 million pounds + Di Maria. With that money we can buy a class forward and another winger.
Then we just have to look at perhaps a LB and we're set.

I love him already
Brazil midfielder Paulinho has given the strongest indication yet that he is set to join Tottenham from Corinthians this summer.
Paulinho has previously revealed he is considering an offer from Spurs, but prefers to wait until after his national team duties at the Confederations Cup are complete before making a decision on his future.
Now, the 24-year-old has praised the club and the philosophy of manager Andre Villas-Boas.
"Tottenham have a reputation as one of the great clubs in England, who play exciting, attacking football which suits my style.
"I couldn’t turn them down if they made me an offer. It would be a fantastic opportunity," he is quoted as saying in the English press.
Reports have also linked Chelsea with a late move for Paulinho, however it seems he would prefer a move to White Hart Lane.

Re: The Official Tottenham Hotspur Thread
I would love for this to happen just for how much it would screw over the gooners.
Madrid offer both Gonzalo Higuain and Fabio Coentrao in part exchange for Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale
Nevermind that it addresses two needs with one move. I wonder what the additional cash would be? Hell, throw in Di Maria and you can have Bale for free.
Another variation of this deal includes Di Maria with Callejon.

We are also being linked with a move for Alvaro Pereira from the other Milan
He played for AVB at Porto, and didn't exactly have a great year with Inter. Would be a upgrade at LB in AVB's system over BAE who is probably on his way out.

Re: The Official Tottenham Hotspur Thread
A fair concern and I'm not sure either. Perhaps if he can be convinced that the Tottenham team will be in CL next year and Arsenal won't, then Tottenham could pull it off, but...promises like that don't always work out as expected.
I would take 30 million pounds plus those two any day of the week. I would probably take 25 million plus those two for Bale. The extra 25 million can go for a replacement like Bernard from Brazil and then all the leftover cash could be used for a depth player up front as well, or someone to challenge Lennon.
I think with those two and a winger like Bernard, Tottenham would be a better team, and I think we could easily pip Arsenal to a fourth spot or even higher with that team.
However, this isn't FM and that's a dream move, a paper selling move. One that won't happen.
Still fun to discuss

Re: The Official Tottenham Hotspur Thread
My post in a different thread:
Idk who the backup CB should be.
My dream signings:
LB: Coentrao
CB: ??
Winger: Bernard
Striker: Higuain/Villa
CBarca wrote:Great Leader Sprucenuce wrote:Spurs need a winger, striker, CB and LB even if they get Paulinho IMO.
CB should be back up though, doesn't need to be anyone expensive. Between Verts, Dawson, Kaboul (like a new signing :fap:), and Caulker, Tottenham should be pretty much safe (although a close watch should be on Kaboul seeing how he does). One more should come in though.
LB-- I agree. I don't think BAE is good enough. He used to be. He's full of swag. But IMO he isn't cutting it anymore and last season even non-natural LB Vertonghen outshined him...offensively and defensively. Would love for Tottenham to go for Coentrao.
Spurs have garnered significant interest over the young Brazilian winger Bernard since the summer began. I hope Tottenham at least bid because of the little I've seen of him, he's quality and a star in the making. I think I agree that one winger should be brought in. Hopefully one that can play on both sides. I want one on the right to offer a different option from Lennon and give him competition. Lennon isn't even Tottenham's best player but the side lacks balance on the offense when he's gone and sometimes he disappears from games, needs to work on consistency.
Striker is obvious.According to AS, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy wants 100m Euros for Bale and the first offer from Real Madrid will be Coentrao, Higuain and 60m Euros.
That's why this would be the best deal in history. Take it and run.
However, it's too good to be true.

Re: The Official Tottenham Hotspur Thread
Apparently the deal with Paulinho is
Not as bad as the 17 mil up front, but I'd still hope it was just 15 mil or 13 mil + 2 in add-ons or something.
But if he's quality, the price won't matter. If Spurs make the CL next year, that's pennies (not literally but you get what I mean).
On to the next transfer!
Again, at first I was skeptical because I wanted Villa to stay, but after understanding he'll leave regardless, I really really hope Spurs is the place. There are some obvious factors that could turn this deal bad: low resale value (if at all), returning (somewhat) from a major injury, he's 31, and he hasn't been as clinical as he used to be, as well as taking up quite a bit in wages.
That being said, we got rid of some wages with Gallas and Bentley and that can always be afforded for a striker who is...quite frankly, f*cking David Villa. He's still got great movement, he's still a very intelligent striker, he's still a Spanish NT legend as well as, imo, performing well for Barca since coming back. He's got link up play far better than Defoe's and probably as good as Ade's (who has great link up play), and he'll revel in the space provided by the EPL.
I think it's worth the risk, and it would be a coup for a club like Tottenham to land a striker like Villa.
Especially with me being a Barca fan and having the largest man crush on Villa, this would be special for me. If he can't retire at Barca, hopefully he will at White Hart Lane.

Spurs are closing in on the Barcelona striker after he reached a broad agreement on personal terms, with both clubs now negotiating a transfer fee to secure the deal
EXCLUSIVE
By Greg Stobart in Rio de Janeiro
Tottenham are closing in on a deal to sign David Villa after the Barcelona star confirmed he would like to move to White Hart Lane during talks with the player and his representatives, Goal has learned.
The Spain striker has reached a broad agreement on personal terms to move to Spurs this summer and is eager to play in the Premier League.
Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has spoken informally to Villa on the phone while the club's new technical director, Franco Baldini, has held productive discussions with the 31-year-old's agent.
Spurs officials are understood to have been in Brazil last week, where they held talks over a deal for Villa - who is in the country for the Confederations Cup - while also reaching an agreement on a £17 million deal to sign Paulinho from Corinthians.
The Londoners believe that they are in a strong position to land Villa despite reported interest from Fiorentina but they hope to convince Barca to lower their £12m asking price.
Tottenham are ready to pay around £8m for Spain's all-time leading scorer, who has just one year left on his contract at Camp Nou and, due to his age, has little sell-on value.
Villa himself has said that he will decide on his future after the Confederations Cup, where Spain have booked a place in Sunday's final against hosts Brazil at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro.
Spurs are willing to pay the attacker more than £100,000-a-week but the former Valencia man is understood to have accepted that he must take a reduction on his £140,000 weekly salary at Barcelona.
Villa-Boas has made Villa his top final-third target for the summer transfer window as he looks to boost the club's forward line and improve Spurs' chances of a top-four finish next season.
Spurs tried to rival Arsenal for the Spaniard's signature in the January transfer window but Barcelona refused to sell the forward midway through the season.
The Gunners have dropped their interest in Villa while Barcelona are now prepared to sell the striker, who would find his opportunities further limited next season following the arrival of Neymar at the Liga giants.
Tottenham are looking to conduct their major transfer business early this year and have agreed a deal of £15m plus £2m in add-ons to sign Paulinho.
The 24-year-old is expected to sign an initial four-year contract and undergo a medical after the Confederations Cup final on Sunday, having scored the late winner in Brazil's semi-final win over Uruguay on Wednesday.
Again, at first I was skeptical because I wanted Villa to stay, but after understanding he'll leave regardless, I really really hope Spurs is the place. We have had good luck with prospects from Zagreb (Modric), but I just worry about throwing so much money at 17 year olds who aren't even done maturing yet.
I wouldn't pay €20m for them, but if they work out, I would happily eat crow.

Re: The Official Tottenham Hotspur Thread
Worth mentioning, just saw this.
Nice...
Now that money can be used to have that extra push for the striker Tottenham need.
Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani dos Santos has joined Villarreal on a four-year deal.
Why do I care? Is what you’re probably asking yourself right now. Well, Daniel Levy has once again showed his business acumen by netting us £3.5million of the transfer fee which Villarreal have paid to sign the Mexican.
When Dos Santos was sold to Mallorca last summer, a 50% future sell-on clause was included in the contract which has given us half of the £7million fee.
