Re: The 2011 Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
This is a good day for transfer news. While Wenger hasn't exactly talked about Clichy, word is that Stan stepped in and is looking to increase his wages in order to for Clichy to stay. Same goes for Nasri as well.
Wenger is adamant that he will not let go of neither Nasri nor Fabregas, which is very relieving to hear as a gooner. There is also word that we have moved on from Gervinho and started talking to Hazard instead, which is a step-up as far as most of us are concerned.

So if shitty sign Cahill, its fair to assume that a mixture of Boateng, Lescott and Bridge will leave. I read that there's every chance Clichy could end up at City as they apparently asked to be kept informed. As Micah Richards is an Arsenal supporter, I reckon we should test their hand with a part exchange/ additional money for him...

Shitty can take Gervinho if we can get Hazard.. I'm sure many of us would have wet dreams if Hazard happen..
Good to hear about some positive steps from Stan.

We had a lot of this discussion even on the old forum... We have mixed opinions.. Samba is a potentially good buy.. But he is slower than all of our current CBs.. Squillashit is shit anyway.. But he is a leader and was also captain at brfc.. How much of that leadership will come with him if he steps into a big team is again debatable.. Some are also of the opinion that he'd not want to be a backup CB.. The idea is, that he would be a good CB pairing with Vermaelen in more physical games while Djourou/Koscielny/Vermalen would rotate as the first CB pairing in bigger games and CL.. The fact that he would not be first choice, after being a captain, might be taken badly by him and that might cause disruptive dressing room behaviour, is yet another idea we have talked over.. I think I summed up most of the points made in this regard..

i'd pick hazard any day.
If Lille sell both, I'd be sorry for all the Lille fans.. As I pointed out earlier, it will be how we feel with the Nasri/Cesc rumours being thrown in our face everyday.. My empathies towards Lille fans..

Thanks man
My pov :
From what i have seen , he isnt that slow , anyone who can make a slalom run , especially against us , in my eyes isnt slow.
The fact that he was on occasion used as a striker shows his pace , coupled with his strength .
What i agree and worry about is , will he be willing to sit on the bench and rotate or will he cause a problem?
And i would want him in the squad because he doesnt look like a player who takes crap and but he will give it all back.
His figure and strength would be a plus point hen facing stoke and the like
Also for the fact that with his imposing figure , our own players will possibly crap their pants makes it even funnier for me.
Still divided over my opinion about him, but looks like a step in the right direction

Re: The 2011 Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
We've been linked with Richards since he first broke through at City, back when they were under Pearce and a mid-table team. As with most English players though he was overpriced so Arsenal didn't bother following up on their interest.
He's a good player I like the look of, but I am dubious about the source. Also, I wonder where he'd fit in since he's a central attacking midfielder.

Re: The 2011 Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Arsenal Confident of Nasri Deal
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will hold fresh talks with midfielder Samir Nasri this week amidst reports he is confident of keeping the Frenchman at the Emirates.
Nasri has been linked with a move to Manchester United and various reports have him holding out for the same £115,000-a-week deal as Cesc Fabregas or waiting for some big-name signings to come to the Emirates. However, the Sunday People report that Nasri wants £160,000-a-week, although this sounds highly unlikely. Arsenal are believed to have both Nasri and full-back Gael Clichy new deals worth around £95,000-a-week.
Talks have so far stalled and the 23-year-old has just one year left on his current deal at the Emirates but the Sunday Mirror suggests that Arsene Wenger is confident that a deal can be struck.
However, the Mirror speculates that Wenger has all but given up on keeping midfielder Cesc Fabregas and that if Barcelona offer around £40 million then he will let Fabregas go.
The Mirror offers no source for this although reports from Spain last week suggested that Fabregas has given a verbal assurance to Barca that he will join the club this summer.
A number of other Arsenal players are being linked with moves away from the Emirates with Denilson said to be the subject of an £8 million bid from Sevilla, although Arsene Wenger may use him as makeweight in a bid for Shakhtar Donetsk’s Willian.
Nicklas Bendtner is being linked with a move to Turkish side Besiktas while Clichy is said to be a target for Liverpool.

£160,000 p/w?! I really hope that's not what he's demmanding.
Anyway, here's a friend of a friend rumour that I just read. Apparently, this person - a member on another forum - has been told by his friend that Newcastle have accepted an £8,000,000 offer from Arsenal for Jose Enrique.
The source apparently said that Yohan Cabaye and Neil Taylor were joining Newcastle a week before they eventually did sign. So he's supposedly quite creditable.
When you think that Clichy staying is looking less likely by the day, then perhaps this rumour has some substance.

Ooh, Honda at Arsenal would be sexy in case we don't get Gervinho.

Re: The 2011 Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
To put it into prospective, Thierry Henry was earning something between £150,000 and £200,000 p/w before he left Arsenal.
I daresay Nasri doesn't quite reach the level of quality of Henry and therefore shouldn't have similar wages.

Pretty sure he was on more.
Well, the actual figure doesn't matter much since £16,000 p/w is either more or around the same as the wage Henry was earning so my point still stands.

NO WAY was Henry on that money per week if so, then he must have waived his signing on fee. Something I know he didn't. What I do know is that he was given a £5m sign on/ hand shake fee and also settled for £120k a week. I suppose if you do that Math the it equates to, between, the figures you mentioned.

Overall it was the highest in our hostory, easy mistake. I remember that he left the following year after signing that mega deal and some Arsenal figure were pissed that (I think) David Dein was the one who propsed that monstrous financial package.
BS on Nasri wanting £160k, unless he's trying to price himself out of staying at Arsenal and force through a deal????!!!!
