Born in Bibbiena, Tuscany, Giaccherini started his professional career at Romagna team Cesena. He scored 15 goals in the group stage of Campionato Nazionale Primavera in 2003–04 season.[1] He then left for Lega Pro clubs for 4 seasons. Cesena relegated to Lega Pro Prima Divisione in 2008, and Giaccherini returned to Cesena and partnered with Simone Motta in the attack, and winning the Prima Divisione in June 2009. in 2009–10 Serie B, with a good defensive record, Cesena finished as the runner-up and promoted to Serie A. Giaccherini partnered with Guilherme do Prado, Dominique Malonga, Ezequiel Schelotto and.or Cristian Bucchi in the attack and non of them scored a double figure.

In August 2010, Cesena offered a new contract to Giaccherini, which his current contract would expire in 2012.[2]

In 2010–11 Serie A, Giaccherini remained as the first choice and partnered with wing-forward Schelotto and Erjon Bogdani, which the club once reached the top of the table but soon failed to win since round 3, and Luis Jiménez then replaced Schelotto as new attacking partner. He only scored in 3 matches so far this season: scored once in a 2-0 win against Milan; scored once in a 2-3 lose to Inter and scored a brace on 6 March, winning Sampdoria 3-2.

Giaccherini rose to Internet stardom following a match on the 12th of March 2011 against Juventus.[3]
He made 4 assist in his maiden Serie A season, one short with Luca Ceccarelli. On the 24th of August 2011, Giaccherini was confirmed in a deal with Italian giants Juventus that saw Jorge Martínez go to Cesena on loan and a payment of €3 million to Cesena.
