Honest Question to Ask You...
Reading that rumor from EC about Inter MIlan thinking of offering money for Higuain, it reminded me about a Higuain x Benzema topic we never/do not like to to talk about.
We spent enough time comparing them to know each strength and weakness, but really, how long are we going to keep both at the club?
The reality of things is that we have 2 young forwards, both ambitious, one trying to be a defined #9 for Argentina, the other looking to prove himself for France. They are both 24, yet to reach their prime, and we have had the luxury to see them competing for the lone forward spot of Real Madrid for the past 2 years now.
When Benzema got here, HIguain was establishing himself, and had no problem retaining his spot, as Benzema was dealing with change and immaturity. Second season, life played a dirty trick on HIggy and he was out for the season. Meanwhile, Benzema became, painfully at first, our starting CF, and has made some amazing progress.
Reality of today is, It's going to be virtually impossible for higgy to compete with Benzema unless he returns to fitness. And while he works on his fitness, Benzema is going to keep on pushing higher and higher himself, and i and most of us realize that Benzema will be our reference striker this season. Proving he is a relevant factor against barca is a very big deal on top of it.
A time will come when one of those two will leave us, as it's not possible to keep two strikers of that level of ambition, both in the same club for 10 years, with one being a starter, and the other being the sub. we dont want to think about it, but it's going to happen. I know most have fantasized about Higuain and Benzema playing together, but again, i hardly think it will happen.
We are already making plans to buy Neymar, so the 2 strikers formation will never come true. there is also the option of discarding Di Maria, and playing Ronaldo-Higuain-Benzema, looks amazing if you ask me, but again, if HIguain and Benzema both grow the ambition world class strikers, it's going to be difficult with Neymar trying to become the world best as well.
So, please, with no Higgy bias or fanzemitis, i would really like to read what you think. I think we are going to lose one sooner or later, and if fate doesnt play a trick on Benzema the way it did on HIguain, then Higgy will soon find himself in a difficult spot.
It's difficult, on one side there is a guy we are all emotionally attached to, but he isnt on the first plan anymore. And on the other, there is a guy that worked his asses off to stick around, didnt give up despite all the criticism, and is looking like he can offer an even wider range of skills in attack for us, and be a more complete forward. Choosing between heart and performance. painful one way or another, as im sure, benzema can just as much grow on us.

Re: Honest Question to Ask You...
I personally would love if Mourinho (or any manager) finds a way to play all 3 but suffice to say, I doubt that is possible. But I have already told myself either one of the two would be sold and honestly, it would be an awful sale regardless as both strikers are young, really talented and hungry for success at the club.
Neither deserves a bench role so we'll see how things go.

Re: Honest Question to Ask You...
Good post, putting all bias aside I think Benzema is the best option for us. Benzema looks like he means business again with his fine form and I don't think Higuain has much of a chance to get his spot back.
I respect everything Higgy has done for us but tbh if he is to develop even more then he would have to leave the club (I wish he doesn't). The possible signing of Neymar in my eyes wont affect Higgy's position though.
They are both 23 btw.

Re: Honest Question to Ask You...
I think we can keep them both, Higuain will stay no matter what, he is a life long Madrid fan and all he has wanted since he was a kid was to be at this club. They will both get plenty of play time of that I am sure.
He and the club will also be aware of his position and need for at least 12 months before he can get back to form.

Let's not get too distracted with our separate loves and focus on the actual topic...
I also probably like Street Fighter a bit more. I can't Busquets like how I usually beat Vega...

You think the club could play all 3 (Cristiano, Karem, Gonzalo) without any real damage towards our midfield set up?!

Re: Honest Question to Ask You...
we will see how mourinho utilizes both of them during the season, i think there can be room for both.
i have affection for both but id keep benzema at his best over higuain.
weve discussed it a long time, i think they can both stay if we win trohpies and they get good playing time.
only time will tell.

I know he does, I know he loves madrid and all. But i also know that becoming a star striker and one of the best #9 in the world is going to be something he aspires to. Someone corrected me, he is only 23, and look how good he already is. If he wants to be the best, i doubt he will accept a background role for too long, if that's the situation he is in.
Not to mention that Argentina has a crazy attacking force, and if he doesnt put himself on the map, he will miss out.

------Sahin-Alonso
-Ronaldo-Ozil-Benzema
---------Higuain
Please, Mou, make it happen! Imagine, with Khedira, Neymar, Canales and Morata on the bench!
*dejected*
Realistically, I think this season would be given to Higuain to recover completely. Only the next season would he really have the final battle with Benzema for the striking position. In the end, all things being considered, one would probably leave, as much as we dont want it. So Summer 2013 is the answer to your question. By which both will be 25? 26? Thats the peak or approaching the peak for Benz and Higuain, so either could easily thrive in another top club.

Re: Honest Question to Ask You...
There are more and more tournaments each year in football. In the past, you had a clear winter break and a couple of months off during the summer. Now, you have a short winter (if you're not playing a tournament that is) + all the tours during the summer + friendlies.
Not to mention all the international play requirements for NT players (almost all of the Real Madrid squad).
Given this, i now believe you actually NEED two top flight strikers to share time... in fact, you need top flight depth everywhere. There will be plenty of playing time imo.
If you ask footballers to play 70 games a year, which is approximately what it would take if Madrid went to the semis of all the tournaments + NT commitments, you're asking for burn out and injury.
I bet you Pipita gets most, if not all, of the CDR starting action while Benzema gets the rest this year with a few exceptions here and there. You will also see them on the field at the same time on occasion.
There will also be a lot more rotation and managing of the squad come mid-March.
Besides, I don't think Pipita's back will ever allow him to shoulder the entire load anyhow... in fact, it would be imprudent. I also don't think it's wise to play Benz more than 2/3 of the time at club if possible because he is going to get all the minutes with France NT.
It all depends on the mentality of the players and their ego... and if we stay for the later stages in all of the tournaments. We'll see.

Higuain didn't lose his place, he got injured. Now that he is back hopefully he will reclaim his place.
Besides, it's not like Benzema was epic and scored like 50 goals or something in his absence.

I honestly believe there is more than enough room for both. Higuain understand that competition is always something you have to deal with.
It's Benzema's attitude towards competition I have doubts about.

what aspect of his attitude because if he didnt want to compete he wouldnt have gotten himself out of the gutter he was in just 8 months ago.Zealous wrote:I honestly believe there is more than enough room for both. Higuain understand that competition is always something you have to deal with.

now if you mean that he might wanna leave if he gets beaten i hope it doesnt role that way, we will see how things pan out this season but i think there is room for both.
