make a top 5 or 10 list!
1. Gigi Buffon
2. Manuel Neuer
3. Hugo Lloris
4. Iker Casillas
5. Victor Valdes
He said right now, Buffon hadn't had a full season for two years now
Form is temporary, class is permanent.
If so, Ronaldo (R9) right now >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> everyone
He is overweight and nearing the end of his career.
You are either trolling, or just another delusional poster
Trolling how ? It is the truth, was he not suspended by the club until he lost a lot of weight ? And he is nearing the end of his career. I love R9 though, he was a magical player especially in 2002.
But you are saying that class is permanent, so R9 still better than any other striker out there.
Buffon yes is a great keeper, maybe the best in the history but ATM there are plenty better than him, his injuries have held him back in that aspect.

That statement makes no sense whatsoever. Juventus is still relevant ? What in the world are you talking about.
exactly what i was talking about.
you are not proven, so not relevant yet on the big stage.
you apply that same exact chain of thinking in everything you post about. Buffon need to prove he is still great in a full season, with the team challenging for big things again, we arent talking about Buffon from 06.
you dont get a pass because once upon a time you are great. ronnie is a shell of his former self, is he the best player in the world even now? no.

Yes but you are comparing a player who has had injuries while playing at the top level with 6-8 years left in his career to an aging player who is nearing the end of his career and has not played in the top level since 2007-2008, and even then, he was not exactly the old R9 reveered as a legend.

Re: Casillas and Valdes
Van der sar conceded two goals from out side the box and one from near the line against barca, does that make him a GK with poor reflexes? explain please.
Again casillas saved two one on one with fraking messi, while valdes didnt really had anything to stop, although he failed to handle ronaldos shot wich hit the bar, barca CBs protected their goal well but our CBs give it upto casillas alone.

The rest are pretty obvious.
Also, Szczęsny has been very *bleep* awesome (yes, I googled it )
my god finally some non-milan fan notice abiatti is more than just a regular keeper, (especially this past season imo)

cassilas is so damn overrated. it's only because he captains real madrid and spain that he gets called the best keeper in the world. he's not the best and has never has been in his career. i don't care many of these iffhs or fifapro best keeper awards he's won. it's his false reputation that won it for him. i've seen him make so many terrible mistakes in his career. no way he can be the best. but unfortunately he will be remembered as a legend because of the trophies he has.

Re: Casillas and Valdes
ITT Buffon isnt as good anymore because he wasnt able to play because of injury.
Preinjury Buffon was the best in the world. Post injury theres not enough time to judge. How can you say plenty are better/worse? We're unable to judge his current form because it is nonexistant.
leave buffon out of it to prevent arguments that cant be proven/disproven
If Casillas were in Italy his career would be ruined because they wouldnt give him a second chance for errors.

When I see Real Madrid drop him and Spain decide he isn't starting material quality, then I would safely say, he is not that good. Until then, I would beg to differ...

Casillas overrated? atm, casillas is the one who is the most overrated of the two. He has had 2-3 season where he has commited lots of mistake for a top keeper while valdes has been almost mistake free.
Just watch valdes vs real madrid, where I don't know how many goals he saved...

Just watch Casillas vs Barca. He has made more saves than Valdes and you can't just ignore how many times he has saved us from total humiliation.

Re: Casillas and Valdes
OK, regarding the Buffon question, RIGHT NOW (and I mean right now as in last season), I just can't put Buffon in the top 5, as much as I hate saying it.
Last season he didn't start much at all because of injury, and when he did start, he was good, but wasn't back to his form we remember from the days of 2006.
I'd say that I put Neuer, Valdes, Casillas, Reina and a few other goalkeepers ahead of Buffon if I were to rank them on their last season performances.
I think that Buffon can and will return to his best this season or the one after. He's still one of the best goalkeepers of all time in my eyes though, just as good as if not better than Yashin and Kahn.

If Gigi can play at a high level until he is 40, then he will be greater than Zoff. Hopefully he is fully recovered from his injury and has a great year. Also, Gigi will play in at least one more world cup and maybe 2 euro cups so he has a chance to get more hardware. If we wns 2 world cups then Gigi should be considered the greatest ever.
