Marca's arrogance regarding Neymar's "no"?
from globoesporte.com, translated by me in my boredom
Santos president, Luis Alvaro de Oliveira Ribeiro, reacted with indignation to an article written by the Spanish journalist Amalio Moratalla on the Marca. On the Madrilenian newspaper, the journalist criticized Neymar for having refused Real Madrid's €45 million offer. Moratalla says that "Neymar doesn't know what Real Madrid is."
- This is the display of great arrogance. It's them who don't know what Santos is. We are in the Club World Cup, they are not. It is Barcelona, their great rivals, who are. They speak as if Real Madrid belonged to another world, another galaxy, and Brazil just a satellite - said Luiz Alvaro.
- The Spanish seem to think that the Treaty of Tordesillas is still operative, when South America was just a big colony for the Iberian countries. But they don't notice that our economy today is stronger than theirs. Spain is in crisis. Brazil isn't. - he added.
Luis Alvaro states that relations between Santos and Real Madrid have not been affected. The Peixe refused the offer for Neymar last Monday, but that doesn't stop conversations from starting again in January, after FIFA's Club World Cup.
- A journalist's opinion doesn't interfere in the relationship between the institution Santos with the institution Real Madrid at all. - he said.
--------------------
I'd like to make it clear that those are not my words, but Santos' president's.

Lol... Santos' president is trying to bait Madrid into a war so that it may break Neymar's commitment. Create a PR issue for Neymar. But Madrid is not biting and he's looking more and more the fool. Good politics by him... and i'm sure the the Neymar camp is not amused at all.

Marca is just Butt hurt, Neymar was THEIR preferred signing.
imo, santos is making a lot of noises for nothing, Neymar stays one more season, gets butt raped by barca, win another libertadores, and moves to Real. simple.

Well, it's not that Santos are making a lot of noise, but you've got to admit that a "no" to a 45m doesn't happen every day, sure as hell not in Brazil. So yes, people are baffled, and talking about it. It's the Third World responding to the First World. Years and years of being the poor ones, abused by the rich ones. In the last years, our economy's been growing and growing, and therefore things are changing, and people are noticing. No harm in taking some pride in doing what Santos are doing. And, of course, when you get reactions like that in Spain, you have to answer it.

Well we've already discussed this on the other thread. There can't be any commitment on paper, only if it's a verbal thing like you said. But yeah, he did say in the end that relations between the clubs are not broken.

I do understand why Santos is making so much noise though, a "no" as you say is a positive message for football in brazil, even if it's not a "no, you wont ever have him" but they are telling us to wait a little bit. They talked about the CWC, then the centenario, so the full season.
I do hope it's a positive boost for you, i dont mind at all, there is no need rushing out a player.

This guy is very defensive and agressive. First all that stuff against Real Madrid, now Marca pulls out its usual BS and he goes on a rant about economies, treaties, and the usual 'we're bigger than you now' stuff. Then says the relationship with Real Madrid hasnt been affected, lulz.

Re: Marca's arrogance regarding Neymar's "no"?
Marca's arrogance is an extension of that of Madridistas, since Marca's business is to cater to the kind of news that their fans want to read.
That being said not all Madridistas are arrogant, and much less so internationally.

With Pele, there's surely no way Santos can lose?

If only one donkey read Marca then it wouldn't be the sports journal with the highest revenue...

they just do a great job selling themselves, create controversies, play with the transfer rumors the popular fans want to hear about, sing sweet tunes and create dream scenarios for their beloved madrid, and of course tap into the pride of madrid fans. that's marketing.
If marca is acting bitchy and arrogant, it doesnt mean that madridistas are that way as well, they do not represent the fans. So maybe avid marca readers have grown to believe what their favorite paper print, but that's medias manipulation, and we all know how effective that can be. Madridistas are proud, but marca took it way too far.
Marca has his own agenda, signing Neymar was their mission, and it's flopping, not the first time.

Re: Marca's arrogance regarding Neymar's "no"?
well there are donkeys and arrogant people everywhere. it wasn't the president's intention to mean that all madrileños were like that. what he did, perhaps unwisely so, was pour out his feelings at some reporter after hearing about these news, feelings perhaps that he'd been bottling up because of political reasons, i dont know. what i know is that these feelings are not too different from feelings that i and other south americans occasionally show here when there's some discussions about european football x south/latin american football. especially those of us who want to see latin american football growing, with our colombian, brazilian, argentinian, uruguayan, paraguayan, mexican, venezuelan, chilean, etc stars staying at home.
santos' president is simply one of us, and he's as tired of hearing "come to europe or be no one" as we are..

Re: Marca's arrogance regarding Neymar's "no"?
That is exactly how marca tap into the pride of their readers. They have been reporting that Neymar saga as the kid wanting to come to Real, Madrid being ready to pay the clause, and now Santos blocking it and threatening to denounce us to the Fifa.
Marca specializes in writing big headlines for articles with little substance, and not always informative, so for their readership, Santos is forcing Neymar to stay in brazil, and that little rant they wrote is going to sound like a natural reaction for many fans.
Not true by any means, but that's how Marca does business.

Re: Marca's arrogance regarding Neymar's "no"?
But Marca portrays a level of self-entitledness and arrogance that no one can deny is a part of most Madrid fans psyche. A feeling of "we're the best" even when you're not. It was this that got you to pay up 250M when you saw Barca have the most successful season for a Spanish club in history, not football ambition. A reaction.

Re: Marca's arrogance regarding Neymar's "no"?
Oh yeah, that part is definitely present as well , i just wouldnt say that it's the prevalent factor for most madrid fans in spain, or at least i hope.
I do know that many refuse to face failure and rejection head on tho, by now most have realized and have come down to earth a little.
That dude just sounds ridiculous.

we madridstas are arrogant because we have something to be arrogant about(not implying that all madrilenos are arrogant people but pride and a bit of arrogance in madrid when compared to a barcelona or a chelsea is definitely there

well said that man
Madrid have not proved theyre top tier as of yet, defending with 10 men v Barca and beating 10 man Spurs mean nothing
Why go and play 2nd fiddle to Barca?
