Flanagan....Very under-rated
Been our best and most consistent player in pre-season imo by a mile....nearly excellent defensively, amazing in tackle and gets forward great. some awesome link up plays with Downing the other day.
Anyone else feels he might stagnate at reserve level being behind Johno and Kelly ?
This lad is just awesome...I really like him for some reason, time to move Kelly to CB full time maybe and make Flanno Glen's understudy ??
thoughts ??

He may not have the looks, but he's a gun! Love him. Glen's replacement right there. He brings the ball up so well. Can cross, tackle, hardly gets beaten and is hardly caught out of position. Can play LB too.

Saw him play a few times in the Premier League last season.
Amazing prospect.

I hope he impresses Kenny now in pre-season and gets a few starts in the Premier League by Christmas so we can have more precise verdicts on his quality. My hopes are high.

More than his defending his crosses are amazing like a winger. But considering he is only 17 dont think being behind Kelly and Johnson will stagnate him. Also being vesatile means he he will get enough games to gain more experience but wont be over used IMO.
Personally i think Robinson is a better prospect than Flanno but we will see.

He played a lot last season too if you could remember towards the end of the season. It's not just the preseason. Unless of course I misunderstood what you said.

Re: Flanagan....Very under-rated
underated??
i really dont think so.
i believe you also take a look in some others LFC forums, and if so, you can see that hes praised left & right after every game he plays.
if 1 of our youngster is underated (and i dont think they are, cause we like to praise them and its a good thing), it would be Robinson.
he may be 1yr younger than Flanagan, but i also think he looks to be the more talented. (talking about raw talent at least)

He's 18 and Robinson's 17. Hopefully both will turn out to be world-class by the time they're 20

Re: Flanagan....Very under-rated
His courage is good. He's not much of a dribbler, but apparently likes to make runs into the opponent's box. It wasn't the first time he did that in that goal of his. As long as he makes them at the right time and doesn't leave us too exposed at the back, it's looking good.
Although I am enjoying his recent success as much as anyone, I'm not ready to say he should be starting ahead of Enrique. He was skinned so many times against Everton and hasn't been really tested defensively since that. Hopefully he's ready, though, looking forward to seeing more of him.

Re: Flanagan....Very under-rated
No ones asking him to start ahead of Enrique Art.
We're just glad he's doing a role for the team, and looks to overcome his injury plagued season from last year.
Definitely looks like he has his career back on track, hopefully he can fulfil his potential he shown under Dalglish couple seasons back.

Re: Flanagan....Very under-rated
That GIF really highlights how shocking Tottenham's defense was... Don't get me wrong - great play from all involved on the Red end, but take a look:
Sterling is in acres of space
Coutinho is totally unmarked
Joe Allen is left completely open on a late run into the box for a possible volley.
Add to that Suarez getting the ball in the box without a defender within 15 feet of him (always a bad idea) and Flanno apparently being a 12th man on the pitch for all Spurs defense noticed him, it's kinda a tutorial on "how not to defend" from the white shirts. Incredible.

Re: Flanagan....Very under-rated
If Flanno plays well against City and Chelsea and say we do get favorable results then there is no way in hell I'd want Enrique to come back and take the spot away from Jon straight away.
Let him fight for it and let Jon keep it until he loses it.

Re: Flanagan....Very under-rated
Agree with McY, till now Flano has done really well and it will be all about whether he can do it on a consistent basis. If he can avoid Enrique kinds of mistakes, he should continue. His participation in attack is gradually improving, it was all about his confidence. Defensively he has done enough to keep his place. So why not, just let him play. Most important we should check if we can terminate Aly's loan deal

haha yes get rid of Cissokho right away I say. Even Brad Smith from the reserves would be a better back up than Aly.

Re: Flanagan....Very under-rated
Also, if Glenho doesnt appear to be giving his 100% on the pitch, I would start Enrique at LB and Flano at RB in last 2-3 matches Glenho doesnt seem to be at his best except the cross/assist against Norwich

Glen is one the most casual players I've seen, right up there with the likes of Berbatov or Assou-Ekotto x)
I don't mind it most of the time, running around like headless chicken just to appear like you're giving your everything shouldn't be something valuable in itself. Possession and attack wise Gleninho knows most of the time what he's doing, usually does it well and if it doesn't require running your lungs out, that's just fine. But what I find so frustrating about him is that he keeps this casual thing going on when defending, especially at set-pieces and crosses, most of the time a guy in a wheelchair would do better set-piece man-marking than Glen Johnson.

Re: Flanagan....Very under-rated
It's funny how he's always "poor" but when he's out of the side through injury or whatever where we truly see the hole in our team. He's arguably our best player in the starting XI.
He's not been at his best lately, but he's not been "poor" either. He's been a solid contributor. Won't be long before he "peaks" this season. I think he's getting himself for a massive second half of the season. It was different last year where he was our one of our best players from the first day of the season but faded due to fatigue half way through March.

I agree that he's very important but he's very replaceable.

Re: Flanagan....Very under-rated
Yeah, the best full back in the league leaving the club would be easily replaced I agree. (Keep in mind he's the only decent player Suarez has played with in the final third since 2011 and has pretty much carried the right hand side since he's been at the club.
EDIT: Sorry 'very replaceable'

Re: Flanagan....Very under-rated
Johnson has been average for a while, to say he is arguably our best player in the starting XI is a joke TBH. He was our worst player against spurs, and hasn't showed us his attacking abilities in a while.

Johnson is the best fullback in the league? Doubts...
