lmaoo they wanted Everton to go down, they gave an extra 10 minutes stoppage time in that game...

anyway, 7 years after lifting the GOAT league trophy, Leicester City are relegated. It's all on them, cashed in on Kante, Mahrez and Maguire but never revitalised their team. All these years later, and Vardy and Iheanacho are still their strikers.

Speaking of the Pep factory, I'd say De Zerbi's Brighton side is the closest I've seen to Pep's Barca in terms of movement and ability to retain the ball under pressure. Dominated some big teams this season playing this way.

So everyone is raving about Haaland's goalscoring, but lowkey Kane has 30 goals.

What is more impressive, Haaland's 36 in City's clockwork team or Kane's 30 in 8th place Spurs?

I've seen quite a few people on the internet raving about how this City team would've been even better with Alvarez as their striker in place of Haaland as well. He did score a goal in like, 1 minute against Real Madrid and another goal in the following match, after all. Didn't score when he got a chance to start in their last match, though. Conclusion: Haaland isn't all that? City are overrated? Find out in the next episode of short-term memory hmm

What you on about Thimmy?

I am in no way degrading Haaland's achievement. I'm just asking what is more impressive because while all the talk is about Haaland, out of nowhere, Kane has 30 goals.

Kane played all games though, I think. Haaland didn't and I remember a handful of matches where he was subbed out early.

Yea feel for Kane, usually when u score 30 goals ur top scorer that season Razz Kane picked the wrong season to score this many lol... dont watch Spurs enough but its definitely impressive. Too bad for him also he never moved to a bigger club n now stuck with Spurs with no European football...

I wasn't suggesting that you were, but despite the goals he's scored, I get the impression that a common opinion on the internet is that it wasn't all that great of an achievement. The amount of goals don't matter since his team is supposedly so amazing that anyone's grandmother would score 30 goals for them 2022/2023 Premier League Discussion - Page 19 1f605 The slump in form they went through, as well as KDB's poor form earlier in the season seem to have been completely forgotten at this point, and it's the players who've hit form recently who are the real deal (not referring to Kane).

Consistent performers are the key to success, but I do feel like the Pogbas of football will always have a place in peoples' hearts. It's not so much about sustainable performance levels as it is about short bursts of dopamine for the average fan. They worry about the end result come the end of the season, instead of trying to figure out what it is that affects a team's ability or inability to produce results, which would take away greatly from the overall impact of players like, Pogba, who has never been a consistent performer for Man United, but was always highly rated for some reason.

I've had a few arguments on here in the past, about whether or not Pogba was as elite as his status in football would suggest, and one of the counter-arguments was that he was voted on the Premier League XI of the season by other footballers. I recall someone insisting that his assist stats for that season were proof of his elite contribution to the team. Just another example of how stats often don't tell the whole story.

Kane definitely. That Spurs team is so shit, and for the majority of the season they played under Conte tactics, and he still scored that many goals

His ability to deal with stars, ship them out when change is needed and replace is top notch. Sane, Sterling, Cancelo and Jesus were better under him than at other teams. He elevates good/great players to elite level. I want to go back to before City bought Haaland and read the comments about how he would struggle to incorporate him because he can't play with a typical #9. Every season he keeps innovating, refreshing the team and making it better and better to stay ahead of competition.

It's very difficult to consistently innovate, transform and remain at the same level.

This is a terrible and misleading video imo. Obviously if you take a small carefully picked sample and juxtapose simple passes that led to goals with great passes that led to misses ,you can make it seem like assists aren't a good metric for assessing playmaking ability and goal contribution. In reality, the variation between the two sets will eventually even out as you play more games and the good passers will pick up more assists while the average ones will hit a ceiling. There is a reason the top assist leaders are always good chance creators and vertical passers. You can't fluke your way into a double digit assist figure.

Regardless of whether or not you believe that video is misleading, I did watch every single Man United match of that season, and I raised the same point when I was arguing with Sports about his consistency; His assists tally for that season really flattered an otherwise underwhelming and inconsistent level of performance. And I think that's been the story of his Man United career. Genuinely exciting talent, unsustainable level of performance and a depressingly low performance rate when off form.

Honest to god, as a Man Utd fan I must say, anything less than 0-7 will be a success today.

I won't be awfully surprised if Man United win. City drew against Brighton and lost to Brentford in their last two matches. Akanji, Ruben Dias and De Bruyne are all nursing injuries, off the top of my head. They might return for this match, but Pep might also decide not to risk it since the Champions League final is obviously a lot more important than the FA cup final.
