If intention doesn’t matter anymore, then I stand corrected. But that makes me wonder why offensive players don’t just aim at a defender’s arm from outside the box. That sure as hell is a lot easier than actually finding a way through, and it can negatively affect the morale of the player who concedes the penalty as well. Not that I doubt Lenglet’s goalscoring potential, but I don’t believe Barcelona would’ve had a goalscoring chance if the defender hadn’t even been there, so yeah, that is clumsy as hell.

The ref applied the letter of the law when giving the handball i.e no longer judge if it were intentional. I disagree on that call as he wasn't even looking but based on the altered rules, ref was correct.

However, Vidal was offside on the free kick and it shouldn't have mattered but VAR is run by refs who make boneheaded calls anyway.

It was a penalty, and not an offside, by the laws of the game. What are you, ice jockey fans?

It isn't offside because Vidal isn't affecting the game before the defender clears the ball.
