Not worthy of a thread thread - Madrid version
I was reminiscing on the galactico days. Sure, we didn't win a lot... injuries, no defense (we kept making weird transfers) and more weird transfers.
But man were we fun to watch on our day. Complete entertainment. Not saying we should ever go back to those days... but when Ramos is the most inspirational player on Real Madrid, something's not right.

Re: Not worthy of a thread thread - Madrid version
Depends on what era of the galacticos u are talking about. For all the fun on offense, defensive calamities were always a heartbeat away, especially when hierro got older and worse when he left.
I'm just scared about ramos' PKs, he seems to be enjoying them way too much for my liking....if the game isnt close then I'm cool, otherwise I'm always quaking in my boots even though he has a good success rate.

Did it ever occur to you Tito that Ramos may be the best PK taker on team? His success rate is actually very good. When it comes to a game decided by PK, quite often the striker is not one of the 5 named!
Who else on this team has the PK track record that Ramos has?

I agree with both of you. His success rate is good, and in a way, it makes sense that he’s taking them considering he’s our most senior player. Like Tito, though, I’m often oddly nervous whenever he steps up to take penalties.

Re: Not worthy of a thread thread - Madrid version
I actually dont mind benzema taken them, he has a set spot he hits them at, usually the goalie's right, no fun and games. Ramos has been frightening me ever since that ball he shot against bayern, the one that NASA found. Also I'm not a huge panenca fan. If we are leading by two, then I'm cool, otherwise I always get real nervous.
Maybe I just dont like defenders taken em . I'm old school like that....didnt like hierro taken them either. And I was mad nervous when marcelo stepped up for one in that shootout against atleti. I was extremely surprised he even hit the target. I expected him to kick it to the corner flag

Re: Not worthy of a thread thread - Madrid version
Galacticos days won't return cause that will bankrupt the club, so yeah good times.
Ramos taking pens and chipping them imo, is because he never got over that bad pen he took against Bayern, where he skied it and got trolled.
he is doing a good job at taking them but that's a forwards duty, cause they get judged on goals a couple players could have used those goals, to boost their confidence and he is taking them to statpad and brag not like he subtle about it, especially if benzema takes the second one, if he is the set pk taker he should take all of them or none of them.
It's poor leadership to use seniority and being captain, to make yourself main pk taker it's clearly his choice, unless it's some classic header from a set piece or making an unexpected run into the box, those pens at a team like Madrid is being wasted on him.

Re: Not worthy of a thread thread - Madrid version
It's the first 8 years at the club by Ramos that have mortified me... i can't get over the calamity of those years. He's been defending well and taking PKs well too. But it's too hard to forget the past.
You know he's capable of being a complete moron... so you worry that it will show up again lol.
It's an irrational... yet rational... emotional reaction.

Free kicks taken by Ramos when we have Kroos, Hazard and Modric bother me a lot more than his PKs.

Re: Not worthy of a thread thread - Madrid version
I didn't know that Ramos was also taking free kicks!
With regards to PKs, it usually is proven track record, how they do in practice PKs and how strong is their confidence regardless of position. This argument that it is the job of forwards is BS. It who is most likely to capitalize on the opportunity.
However free kicks are a different situation and I would agree there are plenty of option there including some guys that aren't playing much right now. It should also come down to track record, both in games and practices.

I like the idea of this thread, sports. Props to you.
To follow on your train of thoughts, I only miss one thing about the galacticos days and that's the Florentino of that era. He was ruthless in the transfer market and it showed through the insane targets he landed.
The Florentino of that era wouldn't have missed out on Mbappé or Neymar, and he sure as hell wouldn't have let Ronaldo leave without replacement.
Of course the market is a little different these days, and there are many clubs with a stronger financial power than Madrid now. I completely get that he can no longer compete with the top dogs for the cream of the crop without putting the club's finances in jeopardy.
But yeah, I miss the days when Madrid was the undisputed king of kings and the team was star-studded from the top down to its spinal chord.

Re: Not worthy of a thread thread - Madrid version
4 time cl winning team, remember when Madrid was Kings? Lmao this forum is so boring, Real Madrid should win every game, win every titles, every season and strike fear into every opponents, cause this is 1950 grow up already you child.
keep saying the same nonsense, no amount of bullshit narrative is gonna give cr all the credit for those championships, when cr plays like trash and the club loses la liga titles season after season, it's never his fault but when the team wins it's all about him typical out look of a cr fanboy, that just count goals as the game goes over their heads, cr is a glory Hunter and statpadder, he has shown countless times his fake rivalry with Messi, and winning individual awards>team plans who cares about a la liga title cr got another golden boot yay legend GTFO.
The desperation for Neymar and mbappe isn't to improve the team, its hope their arrival means a certain player leaves or don't have to give any credit if the team wins.
The reasons why posters are so invested in this current team failing is retarded, cause it won't change anything happening on the pitch, flo doesn't gives rats ass what fan thinks cause fans don't know shit, you lot make things sound like video games
.
Lastly I don't care what anyone says cr time at real Madrid especially in his prime, the team played of the worst football I have ever seen, with cr playing some of the worst games a so call in form player can have, and he gets away cause he scores a tap in, let's keep rewriting history.

Re: Not worthy of a thread thread - Madrid version
I'm talking this season (so far) and last season. Heck, even the season of our last CL win it was dog poop during the first half.
And CR at his prime was FANTASTIC. We were very dynamic and, with Marcelo, Ozil and Di Maria in their prime, we had super creativity. Our problem? That Barca team with Xavi and Iniesta was one of the all time greats. You have to say it like it is. We could have been just as dominant if not for them.
As a Benzema fan at the time, I was frustrated that his talents were wasted... but in retrospect, so what. CR was one of the best players ever and he should have absolute freedom.

Re: Not worthy of a thread thread - Madrid version
I don't think benzema's talents were wasted. That duo won us 4 CL's and 2 La Ligas. Pep's barca and messi were the only reason we didn't dominate.
Our problems weren't attack oriented.. they were defensive. Ramos and Marcelo have fucked us over tons of times. Actually if it wasn't for navas and his big game performances, it would be a whole different story.
Xavi, iniesta, and Messi were just out of this world, and Messi still is.

Re: Not worthy of a thread thread - Madrid version
Always trying to control the narrative around the team is boring, real Madrid never got over the hump until bale got here, yet no one treated the guy with respect from the moment he joined, too caught up thinking about Neymar and his dribbling.
Real Madrid fans 101.... let's run bale out of the team for attitude and being injury prone, then replace him the same type of player that cost double, cause dribbling better? does anyone fear Neymar? Fuck no he is a clown and they kick shit outta him regularly, he became meme at WC and acts like Jamie Lannister, mbappe couldn't lead psg pass shit manu and jealous neymar or their jealous of each other, etc, no cares cause gotta keep pushing the narrative.
You guys talk about footy like children just oblivious and ignorant, RM needs to spend 600 mil to show intent and make a statement, like you guys are gonna cover their wages
, psg and man city won fuck all(cl) doing that, how much money has barca wasted on 100 mil plus players? still losing with Messi cause it's real life you children.
Said before and I will say it again over and over, the things so called RM fans say is made up, when isco flops it's the team fault or coach fault, get a run a game being average asf, fake over the top exaggerating cause everyone is wanna be pep hipster, trying to claim they see something special outta nothing, I have seen great players like kroos and casemiro getting trashed for lesser players like ceballos and freaking llorente, for being better at dribbling, you guys can watch vini play the worst every game and still say he had a great because dribbling, you guys don't know shit outside dribbling and counting goals, jovic is real striker and can score real goals, cause benzema is a 10 that being protected by flo, but in reality he is a great 9, great footballer and had great season last year and continue his goal scoring still and it's bothers posters so much they don't wanna support the team suddenly weak ass fanbase.
If this teams win a trophy this season all of you are gonna shit on it, cause the scapegoats for cr greatness should remain in the shadows cause RM fans say so, as usual STFU.

i was actually just going to post that link lol. didn't know what thread to post it on. i don't know what dutch player one could have included except for ruud van nistelrooy. none of the other dutch players we signed really did anything worthy of note. for the most part its alright i guess, i like that the list didn't just take into account who has stayed at madrid the longest cos then it becomes a lifetime achievement thing. hugo sanchez should have been higher imo
