L'équipe is mainly shit so...
If he leaves there are other elite CBs like Skriniar or De Ligt we can go after. It's up to him, but with Zidane returning it's highly unlikely

Didn't read the article tbh, but it feels like a contract renewal tactic to me. Has 3 years left, Zidane comes back with more money, of course Varane would expect to be one of the first names to secure a bigger contract and role under ZZ 2.0

he's like 2 years away from being captain, no chance he's leaving

Has Varane shown anything to suggest he would be a great captain ? I don't think so

Not in the Ramos mould, no. Let's say that Ramos comes from that Keano breed while Varane is more of a calming presence. Initially I wanted carvajal to take over from Ramos but I think he'll be in the premier league come 2020. Varane has potential and I think that with him we might fare better in la Liga and worse in the CL, due to the contrast in personality between him and Ramos.

Re: l'Equipe: Varane is considering leaving
Blocked by a pay wall so no idea what is the premise of the entire article. However, this seems like a ploy for a better contract, to which, I would have given him it but if he is to leave, Nick is correct in that there are other CB options actually available.
Problem is, it'll take some time for them to get acquainted with the asshat that is Sergio Ramos aka Bill's son.

The problem with Varane leaving is that no one can afford him. If VvD goes for 70m, who is gonna pay 140m + for Varane who is a year younger than when VvD was signed, has a locker full of trophies, and more experience at the elite level, not to mention 3 years left on the current deal.
Nah this smells like a pay bump to me.

Only one club I realistically would see pursuing and can out right purchase his services: PSG.

Re: l'Equipe: Varane is considering leaving
Varane is the second captain behind Lloris. Pogba is too volatile. When Lloris isn't playing, Varane gets the armband.
Deschamps wants Varane's professionalism and sang froid to permeate the team.
The fact that this article was released during the international break is interesting to me. I'm sure Varane will be asked about it by the media.

I think Varane would make an excellent Captain.

This may have some legs. The rumor is his wife wants to return to France and raise his kid closer to family. The only club that can afford him is PSG... the story is coming from PSG.
I think there's some retaliation for the Mbappe / Neymar words uttered by ZZ and Flo. PSG is putting Madrid on notice....

Re: l'Equipe: Varane is considering leaving
Varane is a very good player but I feel we need someone more agressive in our backline, someone in the Pepe/Ramos mould. Varane is far too cute for me. He can stay a season so that we can evaluate Militao and if he turns out to be great, Varane is more than welcome to join PSG

Except they will sell neither AND make a crazy offer to Varane... that's what happened to Barca when they tried for Silva and Verratti and ended up losing Neymar.

PSG are still under close watch and are not far off UCL season bans. Varane has 3 years left and is the best CB for his age and probably the top 2-3 CBs in the world. No team can make this deal happen, not even PSG, unless they want to risk UCL ban.

Why would you exchange our living legend for a super hyped young striker who has refused us in the past for a sack of money and is now most probably looking for a way out of that cave ?

Not really. That's done. Accor just gave them a shirt sponsor deal over 50 mil a year. UEFA (and everyone else's) argument has been that PSG says they're worth top 10 sponsorship deals but they're only getting that from Qatari sponsors. So they haircutted their deals. Well Accor is a huge French company and the shirt deal puts PSG in the top 5 shirt deals in Europe.... that just blew up UEFA's case.
That's why the rumor is PSG is going to spend upward fo 300 mil this summer because UEFA now has to retroactively remove the haircuts... let alone alone going forward.

He doesn't want to leave lol. Which is why i always find the Mbappe rumors funny. If he doesn't renew come next summer and he has only 2 years left on his deal then... ok, PSG will listen.
He has 3 years left after this season and he explicitly said it's a certainty he's staying at PSG next season.
It's smart btw because you don't want to change clubs right before a WC or a Euro. Best time to transfer in right after those comps. Sucks for the clubs though because players start slow.

because as talents you can't compare Varane and Mbappe in their respective positions.Valkyrja wrote:Mr Nick09 wrote:putting us on notice looooool

Mbappe is a once in a generation type of attacker while Varane is a great CB. Thing is, I can find other defenders who are just as good as him.
So if we looking at this from a strictly transactional point of view, assuming he actually wants to leave, you would be daft not to include him in such a deal if that's what you are trying to do.

Re: l'Equipe: Varane is considering leaving
I like aggressive defenders in the mould of Pepe and Ramos as much as the other guy, but there are extremely few of them left, and even fewer who are decently good. That said, I've always believed that such players need a defensive partner who is not only solid defensively, but more calm and composed, like Varane is. Also, let's not glorify the defensive efforts of Pepe and Ramos when they were still in their 20s. Their combined efforts to frustrate with needless bookings and general asshattery, had me prepared to wear a pacemaker for the rest of my life. For all their faults, they made up for their initial lack of finesse and discipline with athleticism and devotion, and that type of player is incredibly hard to come by.

Re: l'Equipe: Varane is considering leaving
I really don't like the overly aggressive defenders tbh. Am I in the minority?
There is a reason they are being phased out, the likes of Pepe are just so erratic you never know if they will make an amazing play or get a red card and concede a penalty off of something incredibly stupid and avoidable.
This is why I was much more for De Ligt than Militao. So I guess you guys will be excited for Militao then- he is definitely closer to that mold of defender.
