Santiago Solari Sack Watch
Things do not look well for Julen Lopetegui, as he can be replaced on the Real Madrid bench just months after taking the job. The Blancos are coming off five matches without a victory, having drawn only one of those games. The latest that could have pushed Lopetegui over the edge was a 5-1 thrashing at the hands of their rivals, Barcelona.
Who will be the successor? The leading candidate at the moment is Santiago Solari. He is the current coach of their second squad, the Castilla. He also played with Real Madrid, making 131 appearances and scoring 23 goals in five years. It would be similar to the operation that brought Zidane to the bench, as he was also an in house candidate who grew at the club before taking over as manager.
Therefore, it seems like Solari is leading the race ahead of Antonio Conte, who would be a more experienced choice. Conte, however, continues to demand guarantees before accepting the challenge. The favorite to replace Lopetegui, is Santiago Solari.

Hearing that Solari nearly relegated Castilla This has potential to be more of trainwreck than Floptegui.

Maybe this is what they're thinking.

Lmao Solari is a joke. Can’t even manage Castilla, how is he at all fit to manage the first team? Dropped Castilla to the lowest ever depths... ever.

I disagree. Solari's level perfectly matches Florentino's ambitions. He's a shitty manager who will be managing a shitty squad and won't ask for any reinforcements. It's a match made in heaven.

Deez, do you still follow Castilla because I'm reading from those who actually watch them saying he, Solari, got better this season. Is that remotely true? Also, Solari makes sense going with the club's transfer policy.

Re: Santiago Solari Sack Watch
Well, Solari finished 11th his first season, 8th last season, and they are currently sitting 5th. Of the Castilla matches I have seen, they do look marginally better, but having a player like Vinicius who is miles above a 3rd division caliber player certainly helps.

Re: Santiago Solari Sack Watch
Lol Santiago Solari.
Dem Memories.
Real wanted to sell him to us within the Ronaldo deal in 2002. But we accepted just money.
Then he came from us really, some years later.
He was average under us at max, I still remember that his open goal missed against Rangers Glasgow.
Soon his greatest merit was to have a very beautiful sister , LIZ .
Good luck though, but I don't think he will do good.
Real need /needed of a real coach, Conte 'd have been an excellent choice.

Re: Santiago Solari Sack Watch
And who in place of him ?
Anyway I don't know, Real are still a great team and so they can win many matches under self-management ( I believe players don't want a meticulous coach this year) , that is enough to save Solari. i mean if you are great squad you can go with automatic pilot for a good period, but you cannot win trophies so.
Similar to us in 2010 when we sack Benitez for Leonardo. Crossed over positions on the table, final 2nd Place but lost badly the match clou for the title and trashed from Schalke in quarters. Lopetegui wasn't holding the team, Solari needs to give again motivations to the team.
Because I feel just Real fans aren't satiated after these 3 CL in a row

Re: Santiago Solari Sack Watch
From Marca:
His stay may not be temporary after all.Real Madrid's new coach, Santiago Solari, has two weeks to show that he can reverse the current situation at the club and prove to be the right man for the full-time job.
His appointment is provisional, but could become permanent if things go well.

Re: Santiago Solari Sack Watch
His press conference showing was very poor, he just looks totally out of his depth
Pretty sure they will hire a real coach not that long later... hes just there before they find someone.

Re: Santiago Solari Sack Watch
Yeah, I'd say if we start under performing in the league again (which I think is pretty likely), and we get knocked out in the round of 16 or earlier (also pretty likely) then he is going to go. So, middle to late March he will likely be under the most pressure. My bet would be by the beginning of April he gets the sack so we can bring in another interim and attempt to salvage the league.

Tells you what a lack of top managers there is at the moment when Real Madrid hire not one but two nobodies in a single season.
