However, if the Lakers miss out on LeBron then they may as well wait a season and sign Kawhi in free agency next summer, but could still take Paul George on now

Update from this morning’s story. The Lakers re-engaged the Spurs Wednesday in aggressively pursuing Kawhi Leonard. Story w/ @wojespn coming shortly on ESPN. This is the first contact between the teams since the Spurs “shut the door” on them after an initial call.

I pray to god something can be done without gutting everything.

1) that the spurs trade Kawhi to the lakers
2) that spurs dont gut the team to let him go

It's not a miracle when Magic has said he won't gut the team. It's about being competitive for a long time.
Spurs don't have that much leverage as a lot of people seem to think.
Look at similar trades: The Butler and PG trades. I'd say Brandon Ingram at this point would've been the most valuable piece in any of these trades at the point.
Spurs are asking for too much, and giving in would be idiotic, when no team is willing to trade for the player.

let's be honest, OKC is doing just that with PG13 right now. Unless he is doing it for show like Griezmann, he is basically giving hopes to teams that it's not such a desperate move.
As far as the trade, if it's Ingram + pick for Kawhi then great, but i think they will ask for both Ingram and Kuzma + picks and whatever else. and then you have to shed Deng's contract. which asset do you give up for that?

Ingram + Kuzma + Deng + 2x 1st and 2nd round picks would be the ideal trade if he's healthy.
Lonzo is the only one I wouldn't trade under any circumstances though. Ingram is going to be a star, and I hate having to part with him...

Just remember what OKC gave up for PG.
They gave nothing at the time in Oladipo and Sabonis. Those assets weren't as valuable as anything Lakers would give now. That Oladipo surprised everyone just makes people think Spurs could somehow get more. But at the time the trade was seen as a 30c on the dollar deal for Pacers.

Kyrie trade:
Boston: Isaiah Thomas, Brooklyn 1st rounder, Jae Crowder
Cleveland: Kyrie Irving
––
Demarcus Cousins:
Kings: Demarcus Cousins, Casspi
Pelicans: Hield, Tyreke Evans, Langston Gallaway, 2017 1st round pick
–––
Paul George:
Pacers: Paul George
OKC: Oladipo, Sabonis
–––
Jimmy Butler:
Bulls: Jimmy Butler, Justin Patton (no.16)
Minnesota: Lavine, Kris Dunn, Markennen (no.7)
Not exactly crazy value.
I think Lakers are offering a very little to Spurs, and that's why the deal isn't done yet.

Comparing Spurs front office to Sacremento, Cleveland, Chicago and Indiana isn't a good idea.
I guarantee you if Kawhi is traded it will be for a lot more than any of these trades were.

Hart, Kuzma, Ingram (2/3) + picks
And you won't just get Kawhi, you'll get a Danny Green/Pau Gasol with him which you'll then have to dump or keep

Yeah as if we’ll take on the worst contract while giving more value.
We’re not gonna gut our team to get Kawhi. Just going to let Spurs fry and get nothing. Then they’ll trade Kawhi to someone for 10 cents on the dollar

No it isn’t. I’d were to take on a trash contract it’s trading Lonzo, Ingram, Kuzma 2x 1st round picks for Kawhi and Gasol. Would be the worst trade in recorded history trading your entire core for a single year contract.
Same thing happened with Melo in New York.
LeBron is coming either way.
I’d rather just wait it out again.

You didn’t make a move
You got Durant because he preferred you.
You never ever gave up an asset. Never.
Stop acting like you’ve been here.
If anything you should argue we should wait. Remember when you chose not to trade Klay for Kevin Love when it seemed a smart choice?
That’s the situation we’re in right now.
Except we’re expected to give up 3-4 players apparently.

I don't see the upside in waiting as LeBron is 33 years old. I mean, sure, he's carried bigger scrubs than the current Lakers' team and will probably have Paul George initially too, but those three provide a legitimate shot at a championship [assuming they get some half decent bench options].
Anyways, we'll see what happens over the next few days
