Thanks bro.
I just hope we don't *bleep* it up with his replacement. But at least the new manager will be assessed properly like every other manager.

This is often said, but rarely as true as now.
It really is the end of an era. What a man, what a manager.
It is really. Especially when nowadays you see poeple encouranging the sack of a coach who won 2 CLs and 1 championship in 1 and a half years of managing because he failed the retain the league the following season.
Spending 22 years at one of the biggest clubs in Europe is huge. He is very much responsible for Arsenal being a top club in modern football . One of the best football managers of all time and it's not even a question for me.
Absolutely.
I will go further.
I will say that he's not only hugely responsible for making Arsenal into the brand and club that they are now (and it remains hugely popular, and also it's no coincidence ~25 year old players all over the world like Alaba etc grew up Arsenal fans, since if you were born in the 90s, your football initiation period of 6-11 years would coniceide with Arsenal being THE attractive, successful, entertaining and likeable club in world football)
I would say that his work at Arsenal also played a HUGE role in making the Premier League into the popular, attractive, and universally recognized brand and money machine that it has become.
Maybe Wenger even more so than Ferguson MADE the Premier League as it is now.
The league that managers like Mourinho could then base the bulk of their fame on.
The English should knight him ASAP. The British must be grateful forever. And all those PL club owners basically owe their profits to a good part to Arsene Wenger.

Re: Wenger to step down
Wenger made the premier league. He was the only.one.who played attractive football in that league.
I still remember that o2 Jersey. What a team that was and it is a miracle that they didn't win a champions league during Wenger's initial years.
One simply can not look at Wenger and say that football is just a game or a career, Wenger is living proof that it is much more than that.

Re: Wenger to step down
The only good thing he ever did was sign young players before they reached their prime and then sold them.
Helped Arsenal as a brand. But to winning trophies and that stuff? He did nada. Worst coach of all time

Re: Wenger to step down
Its a real shame after all Wenger has done and means for English football, that one of the prevailing feelings today is relief. This is not what Arsenal fans most importantly should be feeling today but I'm sure they will be celebrating him in the coming days. Men and power...smh

He won 3 league titles and 7 FA Cups, while competing against Sir Alex Ferguson's great Man Utd.

During which time he was outspent not just by United, but also Newcastle, Liverpool, Chelsea (pre-Abramovich!!), probably Blackburn etc.

Re: Wenger to step down
Looking forward to who they hire to replace the Legend.
Going to miss all goat banter from Arsenal fan tv tho. Just say that they interview Claude on Sky sports
They asked him if he was sad about Wenger leaving. He was like "why the F*** would I be sad, I feel sad for that homeless guy over there without a quid to his name"

Re: Wenger to step down
Wenger is a great guy who was a great winning manager. He managed the football team in the capital of my families region when I was a kid. In fact the first soccer shirt(jersey) I ever had was bought for me by my grandpa's girlfriends husband of stojkovic, who ran through the league under Wenger. Got so much respect at my private school in America with it on. Probably a major reason why I,in the middle of NFL country in a baseball loving family, even like soccer at all. He'll always be a legend.
Let this be a warning to everybody else, no matter their career. You never want to be stuck doing the same job for 20+ years. You grow stale, and your brilliance begins to rust. A guy who was no doubt one of the best managers ever was reduced to running gags about being bullied by Mourinho, being a loser, not being able to zip his jacket, and other inane things. DONT let it happen to you. Always be willing to reinvent yourself. Face new challenges. Learn new things. Grow.

Re: Wenger to step down
True legend, football won't feel the same, he is synonymous with Arsenal for most of us. Only manager I remember them having.
Exciting times for Arsenal fans though, it was long overdue. Just pray you don't replace him with a Moyes type (Rodgers)

It's unbelievable. There's no denying the fact that he's an absolute legend even though recent years he's been mental. As a kid I thought the club was named after him, that's how synonymous he has been with Arsenal for me.
Hopefully Arsenal win the Europa League ffs. He deserves it.

Hopefully we go back to being a hard brexit club, 1 nil to the Arsenal and that, all the AKB hipsters will leave with tears in their eyes.

Exciting times indeed.
Hopefully we win the EL this season and next year, knock Man United off their 2nd place perch. I would loov it if we beat them.

Re: Wenger to step down
The reports here reckon Wenger jumped before he was pushed. That basically the club were close to sacking him so he resigned, possibly thinking that it'd give the team a late push to win the EL as well.

Re: Wenger to step down
Genuinely found Arsenal boring as hell in recent years, mainly because you knew what was going to happen regardless.
As a neutral this should make them more entertaining, either they are reborn and compete again or they completely fall apart it should be anything but boring.

End of an era.
Shame he never won anything in Europe, he reached the final in all 3 major UEFA competitions and lost all of them.

03-04 season was probably their best chance at CL and they squandered it
When they reached the final in 06 , not many expected them to be there

If thats true then at least the club has finally come to that point and therefore Wenger were then forced to decide to leave. Thats a good sign for the club I guess and fair enough.
