I can admit that although it's obvious what I mean
Doesn't make the rest of it any less untrue.
EDIT: worth requoting the best post in the thread so that it doesn't get lost

Anti-Russian propaganda? Open your eyes, collblanc. These are simple facts that are being discussed. The US and the UK aren't at subject here. Maybe Russia needs to mind its own business and not interfere with elections. The difference between the US and Russia is simple... there are actual elections (look at Pennsylvania's recent election for example).
Russian influence in various parts of the world has led to significant disaster (and I'm not downplaying America's mess in Afghanistan or Iraq either).
I will boycott Russia (specifically its government) because it treats people like me like subhuman garbage. There is no reason why I should give any respect to that rotten government. If you're going to tell me "well the US and UK are just as bad", I'll simply tell you open your eyes please. No they aren't. Trump will be out of office soon enough and so will the republicans (that election in conservative Pennsylvania where they spent $14 million trying to hold one seat, shows how bad it really is for them).

I ain't know about best post, actually it isn't but I dig it. How can anyone really defend Russia though? I mean, USA, the British Empire and France all have their cross to bear but come on, it's Russia. Their war crimes are literally as bad as anyone else's.

... Are you also a Liverpool fan?
Jokes aside , luckily no NTs are going to boycott it. It 'd be embarassing to look Italy acting as a vulture for wild card.
People still can't accept that we are not going to play next WC

Haha, There is a very successful Asian community in Poland. They are doing a lot of investments in the country and are successful. If you're Polish, you'll see many more of them, as well as Asian tourists there. The whole world is adjusting to incorporate and lure the Chinese visitors and investors as the middle class grows.
I don't support the Russians and I was delighted when the evil empire fell. I believe by year 2050 Russia as the nation we know now won't exist and it'll be cut into smaller pieces, with China potentially grabbing some land. I just don't see Russia as this scary place with over the top negative connotations attached to it. The other evil empire has invaded Asian countries for decades (thankfully not much dwelling in the East side now as before), I have no time for their moral high ground. Would I want to ever live in Russia? Certainly not, are they capable of hosting a safe, fun, and cool football tournament? For sure.
I, myself, am hoping Morocco wins 2026 WC, will be great to have it in a football-mad country.
Things are looking up in Asia with China and India leading economic growth, and talks of peace between the 2 Koreas, even places in Central Asia driving investments. This could be Asia's century if things go as planned.

Americans actually believe that U.S isn't interfering in other countries politics , isn't threatening sovereignity and doesn't do mass propaganda ..
I really think they live in a media bubble. Unbelievable.

Are you fcking serious? United States is currently assisting Saudi Arabia in their genocidal bombing campaign against the poorest Arab country on earth.
In fact last night the US Senate gave another green light to the Saudis to continue their massacre of Yemenis. do you actually follow the news or just selectively read what you want to hear?

Americans also named their baseball championship 'world series' even though they're the only country competing
I like the USA as a country but they surely do live in a bubble.

I misspoke. I was referring to western democracy, elections, sovereignty. Both Russia and the US (as well as multiple other nations) are currently in the middle east, obviously.

Agree that defending Russia is absurd. I think that's not the point of most posters on that "side". Its just (for me at least) that its pretty hypocritical to talk about boycotting an event in Russia for moral reasons when you support a place that does crap to foreign countries on the level of the US.
On a side note, that post about there being no spectrum of wrong or evil has to be top 10 worst posts of all time on GL.
Leave the boycotting to the olympics imo, leave football alone ffs.

Re: Rumors of WC boycott starting to pick up
Are they currently?
I'm not arguing that the US hasn't done things in the past but this isn't a referendum on if the US is a good nation or not, every world power including the US and the UK has done terrible things, that doesn't need explaining, that's incredibly obvious, but if there is an argument of Russia vs the US and the UK, there is a clear difference to what the situation is in Russia vs what it is in the US or the UK. Read Giancarlo's post again.
I haven't even said I think there should be a boycott, but comparing Russia and the US currently, defending Russia? It's absurd

It doesn't mean equivocating the two countries.
But it's important to take a step back once in a while.

I think you are missing the point. Imagine that instead of being from the US, you are from a country that has been screwed by the US. You don't have to go too far. Imagine you were from one of the many american countries that has been subject to so much intervention, violence, lies, and all around mad disrespect by US governments.
Do you think you would see the US as having much of a leg to stand on to be pointing fingers?

Re: Rumors of WC boycott starting to pick up
No country is perfect. The US has made huge errors and committed war crimes itself. The 50th anniversary of the My Lai massacre was just recently.
But please don't sit here for a second and tell me that Russia and the US are on the same level. The US may have had a civil war that resulted in civilian deaths, but they didn't exterminate 20-30 million of their own in purges (like what happened under Stalin).
And as much as I despise Trump and the entire GOP, the US and the west looks like angels compared to Russia when it comes to human rights. And that is taking into account all of the atrocities and war crimes that have occurred.
And many in this country are not in favor of any form of assistance or intervention in Yemen. Unlike in Russia, we can voice our views without fear of reprisal from the government.
And as an LGBT person, Russia is vile. State sponsored violence towards LGBT people committed by the authorities is rampant.

Re: Rumors of WC boycott starting to pick up
By the way, Obama commanded great respect internationally. There are certain things I wished he did differently, but many problems were left in his lap. I don't know what the new democratic administration in 2020 (yes I am that confident) will be able to do to fix Trump's disaster.
Comparing Russian foreign policy and US foreign policy is comparing apples and oranges, and domestic policy is even further apart.
Russia is a country ruled by threats, intimidation and violence. Russian action towards their own people even today shows they act with impunity.
The world cup must be boycotted and moved to a different nation.

Re: Rumors of WC boycott starting to pick up
Obama commanded great respect internationally because he was not Bush and had swag. Just like the next random Democrat president after the Donald will be hailed as the greatest human on earth for not being the Donald. Before the GOP shits out another clown which the world will hate and the cycle of US pseudo democracy will continue.

Re: Rumors of WC boycott starting to pick up
I would love to see the US move towards a real parliamentary system of democracy represented by multiple parties, but for now I will take the democrats as they are. Changes are happening in this country demographically that could spell major trouble for republicans. They alienated two generations of voters.
