Re: Juventus Champions League campaign 2016-17
chiellini wrote:Giorgio Chiellini has told fans that Juventus outscore sides such as Real Madrid and states his club instead prefer a steadier, more defensively solid approach.
The Serie A champions were criticised for their defensive attitude in the scoreless Champions League clash with Sevilla on Wednesday, with head coach Massimiliano Allegri opting to bench creative midfielder Miralem Pjanic.
However, Chiellini has made it clear that it is Juventus' DNA to be solid rather than a team that sets out to score five or six goals a game.
"With all due respect, but Juventus are not Real Madrid or the AC Milan of Ronaldinho's days," Chiellini told reporters. "They can win games 6-2 or 5-2. Juventus are not like that.
"We have to win 1-0 or 2-0. It's in the club's DNA. That does not mean we will not try to win 3-0, but we are a team that cannot concede a goal when we are ahead.
"We are not like Real and will never be like them. We have different characteristics.
"Atletico Madrid have not reached the top in Europe by winning games 5-0 or 6-0. You need balance."
Nevertheless, Juventus are the clear favourites to win a sixth successive Serie A title, while they are also among the outsiders to win the Champions League.
But Chiellini is adamant they are not getting carried away, adding: " here is a certain balance in the dressing room. We are perfectly aware of the difficulties in each game.
"Everything seems very simple from the outside and that is why Allegri is right to be on top of everything.
"You could lose some of your sharpness if people are saying you have already won Serie A and are a Champions League contender. "

its italian football
love it or hate it, it has proven success a specially with nt, same approach really success
with italian football even albania managed to go higher than ever,
same tactics Albania under Di Biasi
even if you have an inferior team to others there is still hope because italian approach you win the games even with players like giacherini, pele, matri, pepe

I'm fine with that approach, I like stability much more than extra-risky gameplans for Juve and Italy. It doesn't mean Allegri got it right though. There is a time and a place for everything. Its not like we are asking to win 3-0, we are simply asking to win. 1-0 would have been enough.

Re: Juventus Champions League campaign 2016-17
We shouldn't be adopting that mentality with this squad, what's the point in having creative attacking players if you're openly admitting you don't even care about servicing them after a 1 or 2 goal lead
We can't go up against World Class attacks and hope we can keep clean sheets every time
Would avoid playing for an Italian team if I was a striker, they don't want to create shit for you past a certain point, rather play it around the back

Re: Juventus Champions League campaign 2016-17
I have no problem if the team locks itself while leading 2-0. No problem with that at all. Our offensive stars can provide some entertainment even when parking the bus.
With players like Dybala, Higuain, Pjanic, Sandro, Pjaca, Cuadrado, Alves... the counter-attacks can be deadly. Only three of them where on the field on the 1st minute... Dybala was in charge of carrying the ball from our zone to Higuain. How can you win with this strategy, with Sevilla parking the bus and no creative midfielder ?
I think Allegri just fielded the wrong guys. He probably thought Sevilla would go all-in for the attack. In that case, Asamoah and Lemina would have been better because they have more space. But instead Sevilla went all-in for the defense and we ended with a sadness of a game.
Pjanic and Sandro are creative players and they will perform against any strategy. Unfortunately it took more than 60 minutes for Allegri to realize what was lacking. You have to score goals THEN you lock up the game.

Re: Juventus Champions League campaign 2016-17
The thing is, we talk about 1-0's.
Against somebody like Barca a 1-0 can turn in to a 2-1 in 2 attacks in a few minutes time. You don't just score a goal and assume you can keep a few hundred million pounds worth of attacking talent at bay for ever. You need to keep them on the back foot, give them something to think about.
Which we don't, we should have a good counter attacking team but Allegri doesn't want to field those players. He prefers old wing backs and hard working mids AKA counter attacking killers.

Re: Juventus Champions League campaign 2016-17
Then again, the importance of having 3 CBs
Let's say we lead 1-0 against Barcelona in CL final. We have to park the bus, or at least, focus on not conceiding. Otherwise it's called playing with fire.
If an average team like Stoke City decides to park the bus, it means that they won't do shit offensively. At Juve we have enough talent to be dangerous no matter what. But how will they provide any help if they are on the bench like the other day...

Re: Juventus Champions League campaign 2016-17
in center midfield we lack a man who can add more energy like vidal, nedved, giacherini, gatusso
a transfer like matuidi may be a good idea, without one we may need asamoah in the center
for the headers we have khedira and we have pjanic the playmaker
this i believe would be good selection
sandro and cuadrado on the wing against small clubs, evra and alves ucl
it makes sense to me a selection like; asamoah, khedira and pjanic forthe center

Mandzukic has a small muscle thing so he is out of tomorrow's game vs Lyon. Kean called up in his place.

Chiellini and Marchisio are out too. Marchisio is not being risked. We should get a victory, as we rested our main players besides Dybala. C'mon we can do this. It is becoming a tough group as there is only 1 point difference between us and Lyon and we are on level with Sevilla. Hopefully Zagreb will tie against Sevilla.

Re: Juventus Champions League campaign 2016-17
Zagreb wouldn't beat Liechtenstein lol, as far as i'm concerned they will end their journey with a grand total of Zero points.
The match tomorrow is crucial and i expect something big. Hernanes as a regista gives me the adrenaline rush i need as a warrior.
La composition probable de Lyon : Lopes - Yanga Mbiwa, Mammana, Morel - Rafael, Tolisso, Gonalons, Darder, Rybus - Fekir, Lacazette.
Better watch out for Fekir and Lacazette. Fekir is more a 9 and a half but still does a great job as a striker. Very good player there. Tolisso is a good midfielder too, and i'd take him anyday to replace Lemina at Juve.
Morel used to be a very shitty left back but some years ago he was used as a CB by Bielsa and did better. I'm curious to see how he does now. I think Higgs and Dyb will destroy that defence, however.

352 VS 352. It will most likely be a 0-0 draw IMO.

Re: Juventus Champions League campaign 2016-17
I didn't like Alves until the end there, was losing too many balls trying to do fancy flicks. Beasted towards the end of the half though.
Lemina... Lemina... what is the good thing about this player?
Otherwise we will win if we keep it up like this. The goal was coming.

Pjanic is disappointing.
How to make Juve struggle 101: apply high pressure on our midfielders.

We need to see more of Pjanic and Dybala tbh. We depended a lot on Dani, and he missed lots of passes too.

Alves started poor again, if not for Buffon we'd be down 1-0 now.
