Nothing like deflecting blame when you lost a must win game
Who said that? Mouchettino?

Dier is a bench player: when Toby and Vert are both fit and fresh he doesn't start, he's the 3rd choice CB, and with Wanyama's arrival he has lost his place as starting DM as well.
If he has a lot of starts it simply means that Toby or Vert have been injured a lot.
I look at the facts.
I don't care who you think should be the starer.
The fact of the matter is that Dier has started every game he has been fit. I don't care if Dembele/Vert/Alder are injury prone.
You do not call players who can't start, starters.
Come back to me when Dier is actually benched for an extended period. At the moment going back a whole year he's been a starter. I don't care if he's lucky because of injuries.

Re: Champions League 2016-17 | Group E
Had a nice little tour of Spurs-centric forums and comments and most of the Spurs fans put Eric Dier as a back up player. They also didn't quite get why Dier became benched since he was pretty good last season. Not that Wanyama is bad, he too is playing well but there was nothing wrong with Eric's performance last season to warrant being benched. According to them that is.
Numbers clearly state otherwise though so you know, there is that.

It's like me calling last season's Moreno a bench player. The guy sucks at LB and about 5+ people in the team can do the job at LB better than him but he started every game last season. I have no place to say he's a bencher.
It's the same for Dier. Call him whatever you want but he is a starter. He's a role player, sure, but he's a starter.

A starter is someone who would start if everyone else were fit and available. If Messi gets injured and Alcacer starts instead for a few months that doesn't make him a starter, same principle here. Dier would not start if everyone else were fit and available, therefore he is not a starter.

Then obviously we have different definitions of starters.
Starters for me are, you know, 11 players that actually start games.

1/2 on who will go through, wrongly predicted that Tottenham will win the group.
