Been listening to the leak for the past hour. THIS SHIT IS FLAMES.

Kendrick is 4/4. Yup.

I have no idea how this dude managed to make his most experimental album and his most commercial album at the same dame time. Sheesh!

Favorite tracks: PRIDE., DNA., FEEL., XXX., LOVE., DUCKWORTH.

Wooooo!!! Favorite album of the year!

Sounwave tweeting vague stuff about this not being the "official" version and convincing a lot of people Kendrick is dropping a part two (a resurrection album) on Sunday... Shocked

Gonna give it another 4-5 listens before I absorb it completely. Amazing first listen though. Another K Doht classic. Another unique, transcendent record that is pure Kendrick. He keeps raising the damn bar.

Calling DAMN. a classic is a insult to TPAB and GKMC.

DAMN. is his worst project (worse than untitled) and at best is a 8/10.. And that's me being nice because I'm a Kendrick stan. If I was realistic, it's a 7/10.

Production was good but it lacked character, depth and a good story. Not convinced by the double album theory yet. For a Kendrick Lamar album, who is known to have complex storys and incredible depth, it was very bad. TPAB covered politics AND depression, anxiety, selflove etc. It was a masterpiece. Even GKMC covered self love again, had a better religious theme etc.

I hate this album because it's going to prove that Kendrick fans are the worst fans out there. Calling this a classic again, is a insult to his real classics. This album was more K. Dot (the mixtape Kendrick) rather than Kendrick Lamar (the deep rapper)

Unreal album. Just unreal.

Just re-listened to Take Care. Absolutely shits on anything from corny Kendrick. :coffee:

calma. Gonna listen to this in a min. Was reading impressions on other forums and a lot of fans are saying it's disappointing by his standards, but the Kendrick nuthuggers here calling it a classic after 1 listen.

not sure who to believe tbh, we shall soon see

100% agreed

This is nowhere near as good as TPAB. Not a great album. Decent at best. 7/10 is correct.

But then apparently Kendrick has surpassed Biggie, 2pac, Nas and Eminem after this album so I suppose I am just a hater.

Take Care is immense, I still bump it, but it doesn't beat TPAB. GKMC yes, but TPAB is the best album of the last decade imo.

Why on earth does every Kendrick album have to be a concept album? This is the rant of a spoiled fan tbh. Let the man do something different for once. Besides, if the double album theory plays out, then it's the biggest concept project we'd have ever witnessed from any rapper. Relax.

I don't know why RG and guest are mad, I think Kendrick just claimed his throne with the way he made this album.

Not so much focused on politics. Not so much focused on a certain issue. Just put himself out there, cocky and all and backing it up with his supreme lyricism, showing his depth and range while at it. Only disappointed with the YAH song and the Rihanna feature. Besides that, the stretch from PRIDE to DUCKWORTH is incredible.

Perhaps some, and even I, are a bit premature by calling it a classic instantly. Maybe we should give it time. I know I certainly usually listen to an album a week or two before I make a good final judgment. But it's just soooo good, that I think it will only grow more on me in time. In know way is it a disrespect to GKMC and TPAB. TPAB is godly, but I think DAMN could be better than GKMC.

I think the comparisons to the other greats are reasonable, in so far as the last time someone released 3 classics in a row it was Eminem, and I certainly deem Eminem the flatout Greatest of All Time in rap (the music, lyrics, influencing others and pop culture, had greater depth and character as a person and rapper than all the other greats at a huge world stage - perhaps there only PAC can match him).

But PAC and Biggie were mostly more just influential within their gimmick (West Coast vs East Coast rivalry). Musically, lyricallly and everything taken into account, if we're talking past greats and their achievements, Nas is probably the closest thing to Eminem.

But now, Kendrick is here. And I'm not saying he has surpassed Em. But he is on the right path to doing so.

Loved the album and definitely think it merits praise as a future classic. One of his best. I'd put it up with TPAB and GKMC but it's difficult to discern which is his best work. I'd argue TPAB.

I find it ridiculous that people think this work lacks depth and character. It might sound less conceptual but the same motifs that have presented themselves in his storytelling throughout the years are all there: Family, self consciousness, identity as a black youth growing up in Compton, racial tensions in America, politics and, something I loved, him exploring black on black violence as something that ends the lives of would-be great African American icons like him.

With all the hype, it was bound to let down some but they're in the minority and that's the way it's always been with his music which says a great deal.

He's done enough to be called an all-time great. I have no illusions about his place with the immortals.

Look, I don't mind albums not being uber political, but if you're going to do it that way - go the Lil Wayne way. Have some punchlines, make a proper classic. Tha Carter III is one of my all time favourite albums, and it's an example why DAMN. will never be a classic in my eyes.

The punchlines, the lyrics, everything with Tha Carter III is what DAMN. should have been.

Where is the punchlines? What lyrics are so great about the album? I can only count one: the "there's a difference between black artist and wack artists"

The lyrics were wack point blank. Lil Wayne's Tha Carter III even managed to get political and it was all linked to his funny song Mrs Officer (which is a sex song where he beats her up like a cop, see that's funny to me) then it changes to Tie My Hands (that's about the institutionalizing of black men in America). That's just one of the examples how DAMN. should have been.

EDIT: Also there is noway there is coming a double album. Pure fan theorys.
