the e with the thing beneath has a n-ring to it. A bit like 'in' in French. Also with a's and o's.
drz is j (soft sound)

For example, your favourite goalie Szczęsny is actually also called Shchen-sny

all good.

Cristiano Ronaldo could become the first player to score at four European Championships if he finds the back of the net in France - and he also has Frenchman Michel Platini's goals record in sight

Ronaldo on 6. Platini on 9

Basic school French should help. Dimitri Payet's surname sounds like 'pie-ette' – equivalent to the sound of Liam Gallagher from Oasis saying "I ate".

Wtf the T should be silent Surprised
Crochet, alphabet, reflet...i mean for every word in french its like that. The one who wrote this clearly skipped "his basic" french classes.

Well, a French friend of mine has a voiced "t" at the end of his name, too. He told me that this was because he is from a region near the Spanish border, where the pronunciation differs slightly from standard French. Maybe there is a similar phenomenon in the overseas department of La Réunion where Payet comes from?

You must be right. Since it is a name i suppose people pronouce it the way they want. There are various accents you can have depending on where you live.

French is my main language, believe me if someone who is a native french speaker would pronounce the T while saying f.ex.  "je mange du poulet" (i'm eating chicken), he would be considered as poorly educated.

Yeah, I hope for a peaceful Euro, too!

BTW, out of curiousity - do you happen to be able to find out how the "Rayet" of https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georges_Rayet is pronounced? There's a class of stars named after him (Wolf-Rayet stars), and I always pronounced this like "Wolf-Rayé stars", but recently I heard different versions of this, too, so I wonder what exactly is right.

Since he is from France, the French accent should be Rayé. There are regional accents tho, personally i pronounce it Rayè.

But for sure the T is silent. Otherwise it would have been Rayette. Like Alexandre Lacazette Smile

Thx. So it seems my feeling was not so wrong then. (And btw, I always addressed that French guy I mentioned above "Tejá" as that was how I thought he would be called when I exchanged emails with him. Only when we met while I visited Paris for a holiday, he always had to correct me that it was "TejaT" XD.)

If he is from a southern region near Spain, then he might as well be a Basque descendant.
Basque language actually looks like a Lord of the Rings language more than anything else, i think the T would not be silent in that case.

That sounds very likely. He told me that where he's originally from, there was a bull fighting tradition, too. I was very surprised to hear that there were actually French regions with such a tradition, too, as I originally thought this was a purely Spanish thing.

Oops, sorry about the OT - I guess we should return to the Euro now ^^

Fan violence even worse tonight.

England fans were charged by Russian supporter immediately after tonight's game. Police no where to be seen. People were getting attacked without provocation.

Now reports of more group attacks on England supporters. Three days in a row now.

Police have been teargassing large groups of fans who aren't really causing trouble throughout the whole day. Feels like they're focusing their attention on the wrong thing.

All seems to be happening in Marseille. The other city's are a lot calmer.

Stan Collymore was filming at the scene:
