Starting on Monday, goal.com will launch a special series revealing the top 20 players ever to line out for the biggest clubs across the globe. Below are their description:

Johan Cruyff or Lionel Messi? Alfredo Di Stefano or Cristiano Ronaldo? Alessandro Del Piero or Michel Platini? Bobby Charlton or Wayne Rooney? Every set of supporters argues incessantly over the greatest players ever to represent their club. Everyone has their personal favourites.

However, Goal has boldly taken on the challenge of trying to put together a list of the 20 finest footballers ever to line out for every major club across the globe.

We will have Top 20 countdowns for the world's biggest clubs - Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, PSG, Boca Juniors, Santos and many more.

The candidates will be judged on ability, the longevity of their careers, the consistency of their performances, how many trophies they won and their lasting legacy.

Ahead of the launch on Monday, February 8, Goal will be posting a series of videos asking fans from the likes of Barcelona, Manchester United and Bayern Munich to name their favourite player ever.

Then, from the start of next week, we will start revealing our selections on a daily basis. The debate will no doubt be fierce, so be sure to get involved to state your case for your club legend!

The question is, is it best player to have played for that club or club that achieved the most for that player? For instance, Maradona is undoubtedly the best player to have ever played for Boca, Napoli, Sevilla and Tottenham, but of those he's only the one that achieved the most for Napoli.
