Re: Rubin Kazan vs. Liverpool
tbh sterling is much better at the moment. but I think he has the talent to be as good or better. but like you say time will tell. but I think klopp will give him every chance to push on. I wont lie and say I knew all about klopp at bvb. I saw some games but didn't follow him tbh. but I think the way he manages players will only help young players like ibe. he shows them love and imo that's the most important thing you can do for a young player. ibe will feel like a million dollars tonight.Hapless_Hans wrote:better than Sterling, they said

Good win. Couldn't watch so can't say much.
But regards to Sterling, what the hell has he done that all of a sudden he's considered not a flop?

Sterling is way better and will always have the higher ceiling. People forget he's literally only one year older than Ibe.
Don't get me wrong, Ibe has the potential to be class but Liverpool fans are still bitter Sterling jumped off a sinking ship I guess.

Unique wrote:flying to places like Russia on Thursday night is not good when your trying to get top 4. plus its not fair when champions lge teams drop down imo. the problem with this cup is most of the teams will come from eastern Europe because they don't make it in the champions lge. so its flying miles playing on crap pitches and on Thursday night to boot. far to many games to play to get to the final aswell.Hapless_Hans wrote:How do you want to consider yourself a CL ready team if you're not ready to compete in EL?
Terrible attitude for a club with such huge resources. Sion, Bordeuax, Kazan have to play league and 'risk' their players as well.
Are you kidding me?
What's the point of playing Champions League football if we haven't even been good enough to play in the Europa for the last 5 years or so?
Literally the most under appreciated competition of all time. I'm glad Klopp's a winner and will therefore go in an attempt to win it. (Imagine a Dortmund vs Liverpool final ffs.)
Also, you get the same amount of games playing in the CL as you do the Europa, playing in the competition will get the current crop of players (where 3/4 literally has NO experience in Europe AT ALL let alone Champions League) into the mindset of playing 2-3 games a week and vital experience for Europe.
Not even going to get into the top 4 debate. Literally do not see the obsession with this "top 4". Everybody should be aiming for the league title and the league title alone. The mindset to "just" get into the CL and compete in Europe is the reason the English coefficiency has dropped. Because the quality isn't there. Top 4 should be the bare minimum of a top side, not something we should aspire / hope to get into.

Re: Rubin Kazan vs. Liverpool
Europa will certainly be interesting this year. Napoli and Dortmund are obviously the big teams to beat there. I think that will stay the same after the CL group stage is over and Arsenal gets dropped into the competition.
Either way we have the capability to win it all so let's hope the players and manager are up to it.

A fit Benteke would have got a couple too. He is clearly not 100% to play 90 mins.Unique wrote:a fit sturridge would of got 4-5 goals tonight.

Re: Rubin Kazan vs. Liverpool
We might really need to get first place in this group if we want to avoid a terrible draw for the Round of 32.
While in theory it would be fun to face Napoli, Dortmund, Basel, I'd like to go as far as possible.

Re: Rubin Kazan vs. Liverpool
I wouldn't mind a tough draw right in the next round (if we make it there). I'd like us and the neutrals talk up a big tie like Liverpool v Napoli instead of all the time playing the Sions and Kazans of Europe.

Telegraph wrote:Jurgen Klopp mocks claims Europa League impacts on Premier League
Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool’s manager, has poured scorn on the suggestion Europa League participation is a burden to his club’s domestic ambitions.
English-based managers have long complained about the difficulties of playing away in Europe on Thursday and then remaining in good shape for the following Sunday's Premier League fixtures.
There has been a culture of resting senior stars in the competition to prioritise domestic football, with many in favour of a revamp of the Europa League.
Klopp, however, played a strong side in Russia in midweek and says there is no logic in the view the Europa League is more demanding than the Champions League, even though his side faced a gruelling long haul flight back from Kazan.
He also suggested using European competition to blood inexperienced youngsters in tough venues does more harm than good.
“If you play Champions League, you are playing Wednesday and Saturday. Where is the difference (with Thursday and Sunday)? Is the only benefit that you like the other tournament more?” said Klopp.
“I don’t need my team at 4am Friday morning. The difference is not too big.
“We have to play. We cannot rest. That is our situation. There are many games but the Europa League is not a problem for English teams. No. No winter break might be the problem.
“If you think we have too many matches, then stop playing at Christmas. Maybe no (mid-season) break is a problem but it is not a problem for me because I knew about it before I came to Liverpool. The Europa League is a great tournament.”
The last time Liverpool were in the group stages of the Europa League a host of younger players were involved. Klopp’s policy could not contrast more.
He said that would be as misguided as playing a youth side in Real Madrid in the Champions League.
“What would you have said if we had come to Russia with a youth team?” he said.
“If you play Champions League and you play on a Wednesday and Saturday, nobody says ‘you should go to Real Madrid with 17-year-old guys!’ – that is not fair for them. They get experience but not the experience they should make.”
Would it kill English journos to spell 'ü' correctly as 'ue'?
