There's no grudge as far as I know. He was supposed to be called up this time but there was some confusion on the status of his injury with Zidane and the rest of the the Real staff saying one thing while Dunga and the Brasil staff saying the opposite.

Marcelo was a starter in the first qualifier against Chile but he was benched after that game for Felipe Luis. If you wanna see some clown defending from Marcelo watch Chile's second goal. He's just an awful defender. I get that he's great going forward but to me it's not worth having such a huge liability on the left side of your defense.

I see. I just read somewhere that Dunga has a personal grudge against certain players and that Marcelo is one of them.

The only way to get the best out of Marcelo is to play to his strength, i.e. let him act as a 2nd winger but have a DM cover for him. He is the best LB in the world but if you ask him to defend mostly and attack sparingly his defensive frailties will get exposed. I am surprised Dunga wasnt aware of that when he started him. Dunga seems to be a rather a defensive coach so he probably has a point in not playing Marcelo

@harmonica, if ADM had played the full game vs Chile in the CA final Argentina would have won it. Agree?

Marcelo is so far from the best LB in the world. The best LB in the world can't be so bad at defending. if Anything he can hyped as LWB or LW.

Probably, but I'm more sure Argentina would have beaten Germany in the final if he was fit.
