Re: Argentina vs Portugal
bosingwa has lost his place to the impressive silvio who transfered to athleetico for 8 mil this summer
there was a friendly this year arg won 2-1 with messi scoring a last minute penalty. In that match cr 7 only played 45 mins but you know friendly's are not the best guide.
in terms of player to player
gk are sort of equal
defence portugal clearly wins
midfield is a tricky one, meireles and moutinho i feel edge mash and gago based on their performance in the copa, but then again mash is such a superb player it is really tricky so i say portugal just edge over arg
in attack i think arg craps all over portugal for we dont have a striker or a decent am but in terms of wingers it think portugal might just edge it.
so i think they are very equal in my opinion

Re: Argentina vs Portugal
Not really, but I saw the discussion and I pretty much agree that even if Argentina sounds better on paper, Portugal is the better I think. They lost 1-0 to Spain and had a unfair red card against them, while Argentina lost 4-0 to Germany.
I do think if Mourinho starts training this Portugal team, they can win. And he is rumoured to do so.

Re: Argentina vs Portugal
not to mention the goal was offside and we were being coached by quiroz
we then went on to beat the first string spanish(the all conquering wc winning team) team 4-0 with us our main team only playing half the game, even though it was a friendly
mourinho will come after 10 years or so, right now paulo bento is doing an excellent job portugal looks excellent under him, playing like a team and more importantly cr7 has started to play to his potential, let see where he can take as
there are so many excellent coaches lined up to lead portugal: mourinho, avb, jesus and domingos we are producing some of the best coaches in the world

Re: Argentina vs Portugal
I think Portugal edges it out for me. Under Paulo Bento they have performed really good and under Batista Argentina have, well we all know what happened. Argentina of course looks better than Portugal on paper wins but Portugal have been on better form than Argentina have and their defence is world class unlike Argentina. Argentina's attack and midfield has really bad chemistry, who knows maybe things will change.

Sorry to say but the argie's defense really drags the team down. even on paper.

Re: Argentina vs Portugal
If they were to play tomorrow, I'd go for Portugal. Batista just hasn't found the key to success yet, and Argentina's been performing poorly.

Re: Argentina vs Portugal
I shudder to think of what Argentina's defense will become once Zanetti retires... They're alright in CBs, but have absolutely zero quality fullbacks.

And that has a huge effect. On paper, Argentina has the better the team probably in all departments, except for that center-back pairing in which Portugal definitely has the better of the two. But their chemistry is just really bad and they're too individual. Portugal, on the other hand, have been in much better form (of course it's difficult to compare recent Euro qualifiers to the Copa America, but the latter really gave us an idea of where Argentina stands). I would say they're about even, but if I could choose to face one of these teams in the near future, I would rather avoid Portugal.

Re: Argentina vs Portugal
I think Pepe should be the false 6 for Portugal as he was with Madrid in the Clasicos. That really is his best position, he is an absolute monster there. And Bruno Alves could partner Carvalho, and speaking of Bruno Alves, how is he doing at Russia?

He does sometimes. But he is a slowdown in the attack, kind of unneccesarry.

Re: Argentina vs Portugal
he is going ok, really out of view there tbh. i rather see carrico/rolando play instead of him.
pepe as 6 was a fail for portugal, but he has improved in that position so let see what happens. However i dont think we need him there our mid is really tight might moutinho and meireles now just need ruben michael to start
