Why is the image of a black hole idiotic? This is great.

That is exactly an image of a black hole. We can model it, what else were you expecting. And now we can model it better.

Being pedantic about the term "black hole image" is somewhat idiotic

Yea but modelling it is just fake, no?
It really isn't it.

Re: Space Exploration & Discoveries
No, that image is not the model. Scientists had models predicting what it would look like. Now we have an actual image, data, to compare with the models.
It is a truly fantastic achievement. Dismissing it is what is somewhat idiotic. It is a triumph of the group of scientists that did it, and of science as a whole.

Glad someone pointed this out.
Clearly this image is catered towards pop science fans as whilst one can learn from the image itself it just does not make sense from a cosmological point of view.
Please, why doesnt it make sense from a cosmological point of view?

"Black holes are so small, dark and distant that observing them directly requires a telescope with a resolution equivalent to being able to see a bagel on the moon. This was once thought to be an insurmountable challenge."

What did you think a black hole would 'look' like?

Okay, so what now?
What do we do with this "image" that we found of this black hole?

It won't put food on your table but nevertheless it's a big step in terms of space exploration.
Did you ask "what do we do with this" after the moon landing? I don't know what's your deal. I'm not saying this is as big as the moon landing BTW, before you jump on that and start word-picking.

Re: Space Exploration & Discoveries
I am just hoping other countries can start being able to afford Space as much as NASA or ESA. Its unfortunate only these 2 are leading everything with so many countries waiting to get on the action, well once they settle their internal issues.
India did the same, our Mars satellite was cheaper than the movie Gravity

I've got a theory: no matter how amazing life on earth is, it will go down the drain as soon as the sun burns out or another dino like catstrophy happens. The only way to survive is for the life to spread onto other planets/solar systems before the due date. To leave earth, one needs an intelligent, capable life form which is bound to the nature by its basic needs for nutrients = humans. Humans are capable of spreading life into the space out of basic necessities like food or water. We've got 8 billion people, 8 billion brains. Theoretically, humanity should be at its max capacity to leave earth. Instead, we're discussing about what to wear or which Iphone to buy. The outer space is there to explore.
I'm all for intact space programs on all continents. More competition means faster/better development into that direction.

Yes, that was a tremendous achievement for India, but far from being the only one. So far, you have carried out 97 spacecraft missions, 69 launch missions and planned several missions including the Aditya, Gaganyaan and MOM 2. And you would have many, many more if you had enough funding.
I love the work that NASA, SpaceX and ESA are doing, but I wish other countries had a similar financial muscle to carry out their programs as well. Cause there are brilliant people all over the world, people who could benefit humanity in all sort of ways, but they lack the financial means to launch their own missions.
The world seems more interested in spending billions of dollars on weapons and wars unfortunately.

We're the multidimensional alien substrate and we're living in a simulation and there are an infinite number of parallel universes out there regardless of time and space, and the sun blowing/burning out.
We (consciousness) will never end. Energy doesn't end.
