La Liga strike
Seems to be a very serious issue.Thought this deserved its own thread.
http://www.football-espana.net/50267/la-liga-end-week
Reports in the Spanish Press have suggested that La Liga could end this weekend as a result of the country’s labour laws.
The Spanish Footballers’ Association (AFE) confirmed on Thursday that Spain’s top two divisions would hold an indefinite strike from May 16, which would affect the final two rounds of fixtures plus the Copa del Rey final between Athletic Bilbao and Barcelona on May 30.
However, a report in Friday’s Marca claims the matter is set to go beyond football and become a legal matter, with sources from La Liga admitting to the newspaper: “We don’t know what will happen.”
Spanish labour law states that the days affected by strikes are not recovered, thus implying this weekend will be the last in the top tier and that the table will be decided without Weeks 37 and 38 being disputed.
Nevertheless, it could create a snowball of conflicting interests as the clubs who achieve mathematical survival in Week 36 may opt to rely on the Spanish Constitution, while those vying for the title and European places will inevitably want the remaining two matches to be fulfilled.

Re: La Liga strike
As I said in another thread:
On the strike, it can't really help spanish teams (at least in the semifinals), as it won't start until the semifinals are over. It could help for the final though.
The Cup final is not part of the strike.

That's what I was trying to say in the other thread x)
It ruins and almost completely disvalues (is that a word?) the whole season if the last two rounds are not played. I can't believe this might happen.

Every report I've read has stated that the cup final will be suspended
"All matches will be suspended from 16 May, including the domestic cup final."

Hopefully Madrid loses to Valencia so we can almost win the league before the 16th, this could get ugly if the strike goes into the Copa America training.

Re: La Liga strike
This article explains what's going on pretty well:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32619740
There seems to about a week before the law actually goes through, so it's possible that the issues will get resolved in that time and football in Spain can resume as normal. Of course, if it's not sorted out then there's potential for things to get ugly, what with FIFA possibly getting involved as well.

Re: La Liga strike
I could honestly see either Villar or Tebas losing their jobs after this. My post in the La Liga thread about a strike always happens in La Liga really undermines how serious I gathered this situation really is.
Jeez, this sucks...

Re: La Liga strike
Well to me it definitely looks like it will be resolved by next week. Nobody really gains anything if all the matches are abadonned, and of course as mentioned the involvement of FIFA could make it very dangerous.

Re: La Liga strike
Good look rescheduling the games. Will gain lots of positives for the league to delay title and relegation deciding games to God knows when. Because one thing's for sure. Atleti-Barca ain't happening with Messi and Neymar in Copa America.

We don't have to release them until the Liga is over.

Sure you might have to, it's determined by the FIFA calendar.

I'm fairly sure we aren't obliged to do so if the team is still yet to play leauge deciding games. Can recall reading it several times in different sources.

Re: La Liga strike
The national federations have a right for their players to be released from the clubs for international games within the framework of the FIFA calendar.
If La Liga doesn't finish their games within the preagreed time because of internal issues, that's not the problem of the Brazilian or Argentinian FAs

Re: La Liga strike
Teams aren't obliged to release players for international friendlies. For FIFA sanction competitions like Copa America, the clubs are obliged to release the player unless they are injured. Basically, I don't think Barcelona have much of a choice in this matter. They could beg the FAs to have both players released on a later date...

Don't think it will come to this. There still a lot of time, even to reschedule games, until mid June

Are you sure about this? If those friendlies occur within a gameweek reserved for international games and friendlies ("international window") I think they very much are obliged

All leagues have to release their players 10 days prior to the start of the Copa América, as set by FIFA. Some leagues, such as the CL, have reached an agreement with CONMEBOL and FIFA to get late release for their players if there are South Americans in the CL final. La Liga has no such agreement and would have to release all their players.

Re: La Liga strike
Thanks for clarifying that. Sucks balls tbh. I hope they sort it out quickly because we'll have to play Atleti without Messi and Neymar if that happens.BarrileteCosmico wrote:linetty wrote:Hapless_Hans wrote:

Re: La Liga strike
Hans, you are quite correct. I was thinking matches outside the international calender.
FIFA on Friendlies and Final Competitions respectfully wrote:A club holding the registration of a player called up to play in the national team must release him to the national association on the fixed/set dates for international matches in each calendar year.
In accordance with Article 36 Paragraphs 2b) and 5c), if a player is called up, he must be released to play in the final competition organised by FIFA or a confederation and held in a period fixed/set in the calendar. In this event, the period of release shall be 14 days.

Those two are not the only players that would be affected lol.
Godin as well, Suarez, no? Or is he still banned?

Suárez is still banned. Daniel Alves wasn't called up. If Madrid draw Valencia we would only need to win 2 of the next 3 games.

Re: La Liga strike
It's not like Real wouldn't lose players too.
Basically half of La Ligas top players would be gone lol, doubt they'll let it come to that.
