Do you like Cristiano Ronaldo?
Re: To Real Madrid Fans(mainly)
The Demon of Carthage wrote:It baffles me. I never really understood why would some people cast aside what should merely be the sole criterion for making a player assessment: their performance on the pitch and nothing else. Instead, they cling to futile, extraneous remarks.
The day when people start watching football for the sake of football, solely focusing on the beautiful game, with no resentment, no hatred, no jealousy, no personal agendas, the world will be a much better place. But until then, we'll have to watch it with people thinking football is a popularity contest.
I didn't vote, simply because I really don't care about his personality. I only care about what he does on the pitch, anything else is none of my business and doesn't concern me in the slightest. As long as he's committed to our cause, he's good in my book. And as far as Cristiano Ronaldo is concerned, he's the most professional player in the game. That's all I need from him. That's all I want from him. That's all I need to know.
i agree with all of this. same reason i didn't vote either. dude's job is to perform on the pitch, he does that and it helps my team win. obviously if he was involved in some vile illegal things away from the pitch then i wouldn't want him on the team, but to get bent out of shape for things like not celebrating, celebrating too much and all that stuff, is no concern of mine. his professionalism can't be questioned and as far as real madrid is concerned, that's what matters to me

Re: To Real Madrid Fans(mainly)
I cant believe anybody can defend his antics. He truly is one of the best attackers this game has (ever) seen, a machine and a great athlete. But this game is much more then a 1 man-show or about individual awards. If he wants to score more goals and be considered the best player (of this year), he should contribute more and start scoring amazing goals like James, Messi, Suarez, Sanchez, Aguero etc. He has been scoring tap-ins lately (wich is no harm imho), but to get upset for not getting the tap-in for me is ridicilous. No matter how much you're urge to score is, the team always comes first. They are in the race for the title and what only matters at this point are the 3 points.

A few months ago Messi was past it and Ronaldo in his absolute prime. You can never know what will happen in 2 years. Stop going in full Barcaforum mode please.

@collblanc, the tantrums do look childish on one hand, on the other hand, i don't think he goes into the locker room and starts yelling at guys saying "leave the tap ins for me, i'm supposed to score, stop getting in my spot light". if he were to act in that fashion then it hampers the team. but its like everyone on the squad knows how he is, and even arbeloa said it isn't an issue. now, whatever he does is under a microscope, but there have been great players that got away with worse....we are arguing about this dude throwing tantrums and fits like a child, i don't agree with throwing tantrums, BUT, i prefer that to not being in shape, being lazy on the pitch, being in the tabloids for parties every night when the team is in the shits (he had that birthday thing, but t'was a one off), not training hard enough, and allowing teams like osasuna, mallorca, depor, zaragoza, to be your boogey teams.
all the above crap happened during the galactico era. from a professional standpoint, this is one of the more professional madrid sides we've seen, and cron is a big part of that, i remember times when capello had to ban certain food items and lock refrigerators because players where out of shape, when suker, seedorf, karembu, mijatovic and co had their fast car clique and never saw a nightclub they didn't like vs the spanish guys.... (not to mention seedorf's fist fights with hierro and later another one with seedorf and ivan campo) or the incident when robinho and the brazilian contingent arrived late after partying hard in rio after some brazil friendly that had been completed eons ago...those sort of things get me upset, not some player who seems to get along with everyone throwing little tantrums here and there.
madrid was a real soap opera back then, if little fits about a top professional not scoring is what's catching the media's attention now, i'm very happy with that. and by the way, as great as the original galacticos were, we might have achieved more if they showed the desire to contribute more on the pitch and work hard....makelele's exit wasn't the sole problem, most of them had gotten lazy by the mid 00s

Re: To Real Madrid Fans(mainly)
Agreed. I doesnt make me upset or anything. Sometimes I read on the Barcaforum people getting upset that Neymar and/or Messi travel to Brazil/Argentina midweek to attent a event/party. I couldnt care less about any of that. They need to perform on the pitch and get those 3 points. I am not the one who always talks about our team, but looking at Messi, Neymar and Suarez is how a team should play. I do really believe those 3 couldnt care less about who scores the winner of gets a brace, and I do believe that Ronaldo puts himself above Benzema/Bale. There is no room for this in a team. Not for Ronaldo, and not for Messi or any other superstar.

Re: To Real Madrid Fans(mainly)
Truth be told, if he were on my team his antics would bother me. Everything he does is tremendously cringeworthy for a 30 year old guy who is the father of a child. His freekick stance (despite being the worst freekick taker in the world, which makes it even funnier), that "ZIOUUUUU" chit, his celebrations and non celebrations with his teammates, his constant diving to win penalties and statpadder further, rushing to collect the ball out of the net when it's already 8-1 to statpad one more goal. Everything about him is cringe and it would really bother me if I had to watch that week in week out. Maaaaybe I could live with it if he delivered trophies but he doesn't do that. 1 league title in 6 years in the most stacked Madrid sides in the history of the game with the best coaches available. He's just doing that: statpadding for his own glory. Fortunately he isn't on my team and I can be entertained from afar. La Liga would be a more boring place without him.

Guy deserves a break. He misses a tap in and gets upset about it and people criticize this perfectly natural reaction seems like no matter what he does CR does will get criticism from some one.

He didn't "miss" a tap-in. His better positioned teammate just scored a goal. Like, you know, happens in every single game of football.

I didn't vote if it makes you happy. Also he said "mainly". Not "exclusively". Even though Madrid is my 2nd team.

Ah the Ferrari boys, professionalism personified. Read they knew escorts by their actual names too.
On a pure footballing perspective, they are worse things out there than a footballer throwing a mini hissy fit because he can't bask in personal glory. I never had much or any issue with Cristiano's persona, not even when he was that spotty face teenager at Utd.
Not that I don't recognise his childish ways, it's pretty clear but he isn't a family member of mine nor do I have any real investment in his life. He is just another (great) footballer at the club I happen to love. He hasn't done anything illegal like Evans nor is he like Balo whose talent and persona don't match his actual end product so for me to straight out bitch when he isn't acting mature would be weird of me.
I wouldn't say I love him but I am a huge fan of his work.

Re: To Real Madrid Fans(mainly)
I've never been a fan of his occasional antics, but I've always had a little bit of sympathy for him, because the media and a lot of the fans really blow up every little thing he does. A lot of the things that he gets criticized for, are things that I've witnessed other players, both professional and non-professional, do without having to explain themselves for it.
I know some people are very easily bothered by such behaviour, and god knows I'd rather prefer that he was as composed and "uninteresting" as someone like Varane, but it really doesn't bother me to such an extent that I'd want him out of the team. I don't think he gets enough credit for his positive contributions to the team, and I daresay he's made a lot of them since he came to Real Madrid back in 2009.
I think him acting immature for his age is a valid argument in many cases, but I'll never understand why so many people think he's the worst of the worst, or what makes some people believe they can read his allegedly, extraordinarily obnoxious and egocentric mind. He has many flaws, but I rarely find myself thinking that any of those flaws warrant the kind of attention and criticism he often gets.

shaking your head like you have been wronged, after your teammate scored is just a bit too much, to be like "hey its cr so.... " , its fair to say everybody knows cr drive to win without the antics, which now its starting to look like an act tbh

for the record, i won't give a damn if it was chicharito, benzema or bale shaking their heads. same way (unlike henry) i didn't give a fuss about chicha celebrating the winner against atleti (hell if i were him i'd have even done a back flip). the focus on celebrations and non-celebrations these days is really really pushing it .

Re: To Real Madrid Fans(mainly)
Some of the biggest jerks in football have been fantastic team football players... so i gave a pass on their behavior as long as it wasn't too bad. The problem i have with CR is that he acts like a jerk AND was a completely selfish player.
The interesting part is that he's become a team player mostly starting in early 2014. So i have more patience with his antics now than i did before. So he's upset that he didn't get to statpad? Fine as long as he plays a team game and helps his teammates (which he is now).
Bale is far more polite... but a far far worse team player than CR is today. So if Bale did something like this, i would be far more bothered.

Re: To Real Madrid Fans(mainly)
well i am far from a fan boy, i'm not a fan of anyone individual on the team, i leave the fan boy and man crush values to others....at real madrid, everybody is disposable when the right time or player comes around, cristiano included. and i have hardly gotten involved in the cr vs messi debates, or the crap of "who should win the golden ball", my primary concern is that real madrid wins, simple...and whilst its childish, as i mentioned before, as long as its not disturbing team chemistry and nobody on the squad is bent out of shape, i could care less....coming to games/practice fat and out of shape, being lazy on the pitch, losing to scums like alcorcon, and the whole galactico part 1 off the field fiasco and antics worry me more than which player celebrates what

Re: To Real Madrid Fans(mainly)
For me it's like beating a dead horse. Everyone knows what he is like. I feel that he is a great player when his personal goals align with that of the teams. When it doesn't he starts become detrimental. I've always said and I maintain that CR is a double edged sword and a tactical conundrum in himself. Funny enough I have many Madridista friends (people that actually pay to watch RM and live in Madrid) that want him sold. He was also booed recently which means that the crowd there feel a sort of apathy for him.
Long story short before I write an essay, he's been like this for years and it's nothing new.
