Liverpool vs. Newcastle
Our great run of results came to screeching halt with two consecutive defeats against Champions League contenders. Right now, prospect of making Champions League is purely mathematical. To make matters worse, we have a host of players injured or suspended. And just to recap, Sturridge haven’t managed to lose the cobwebs in over a month.
Probably the greatest source of hope is in form of Newcastle, who has lost five of their last six games. This is also the team that has taken TWO points from their last TEN away games.
With Skrtel & Emre suspended and fate of Sakho still unknown, the worst case scenario is Johnson-Toure-Lovren or perhaps Toure-Lovern if we switch formation. Haven't watched the last/Blackburn game, but it would be stupid to shove Henderson on WB. Also, Moreno haven't done anything in last 5-6 games to justify selection over, well anybody. I would fancy something like this,
In case Rodgers wants to shuffle the deck,

Re: Liverpool vs. Newcastle
I think we will continue to play the 4-3-3 with Skrtel out and its relative success against Blackburn.
I'd like to see maybe Sturridge come off the bench again to show that he's been piss poor of late. Maybe he's still not fit, but Balotelli or Borini, if healthy, should get a chance (or maybe shift Sterling to striker and have Markovic start on).
Can't wait for Ibe to be healthy again and having Sterling as the striker becomes a enticing idea with Ibe - Sterling - Coutinho being full of movement, creativity and very threatening. Would also not mind having Manquillo in over Johnson.
Johnson - Can - Lovren - Moreno
Henderson - Lucas - Allen
Sterling - Sturridge - Coutinho

Re: Liverpool vs. Newcastle
This is probably the easiest fixture we could have right now, with Newcastle's poor form and their mercenary squad having nothing to play for. That's the lucky part considering we are missing our two best CBs. Newcastle have scored just two goals in their last six games and haven't scored more than one goal in a game since 31st January against Hull.
I hope and believe we play four at the back since both Skrtel and Sakho are missing. That said, I'm not sure I trust Can in a two-man center-back system. He's been making some mistakes in that CB position in the three-man line and such mistakes get exposed worse in a two-man system. Then again, the alternatives are Calamity Kolo and Lousy Lovren. LOL
And what ever the line-up, just put some urgency in the attacks for heaven's sake.
I'd play:
Ps. Sucks that it's another Monday night game for us.

Re: Liverpool vs. Newcastle
I don't know how Toure played in the last three games as I missed those. But the few games I saw him play, he was pretty decent.
I would go with Arty's team but preferably with Markovic for either of Johnson or Enrique.

Re: Liverpool vs. Newcastle
@El, having Sterling, Ibe and Coutinho together in attacking positions can be interesting. I think we should continue with Kolo-Lovren for CB parternship.

Re: Liverpool vs. Newcastle
Newcastle has been really terrible of late, but they still have a few quality players. Cabella specifically has really come on the second half of the season and is incredibly talented.
Also if we're keeping Toure on and moving Can to midfield for this game I hope it's Lucas sitting. He has not been good since coming back from injury. Might be better as a late defensive sub.

Re: Liverpool vs. Newcastle
Newcastle fixture at Anfield seems to be a relatively easy fixture for us.
We need to win this to see where we stand after the Manchester Derby. We will know our who our potential last chance is against.

Re: Liverpool vs. Newcastle
^ think it might just be easier to catch City than United, at least based on form.. United are second only to us, City are 9th on form (last 6 games)..

Re: Liverpool vs. Newcastle
Well 6 of the remaining 7 are very winnable. Chelsea game imo doesn't really matter.

Re: Liverpool vs. Newcastle
Sturridge needs to start, if only to try to play him into fitness and form.
While it could be suicide to underestimate any side in the PL for us at the moment, to approach a match like this in an overly cautious manner would likely be just as damaging.

Lucas was pretty good against Blackburn, Did the dirty work that no one noticed. He's an integral piece of a 3 man midfield at LFC.
