0-0 Bayern Shakhtar draw in Donetsk
Arsenal 1-3 loss at home
Juve 2-1 win over Dortmund in Torino
1-0 Leverkuson win over ATM at home...
Those two weren't really surprising.

Despite Bayer fumbling all their counters and ruining the chance to put the tie away early, I really liked how they played.
That being said, they are, of course, Neverkusen and will get dismantled in Madrid in the return leg, sadly.

Schmidt seems to insult Burgos (Simeone's assistant) to which Simeone replies "What's your problem, f*****t?"

Yeah apparently Schmidt told the assistant to kindly take a seat, except he yelled it in angry German.
But what he said in the post match interview is that there were a few dozen insults hurled from the Atletico bench towards the Bayer bench before that.
No idea if it's true, but that's what Schmidt said.

I hope so. Leverkusen did play extremely grown-up football at times, the combination of that intense pressing and the calmness with which they circulated the ball when they needed things to calm down was really impressive.
On the other hand they were really wasteful and had to get bailed out by Leno.

Well, as long as they get dismantled 2:1 or 3:2 or 4:3 I wouldn't mind. And even a 1:0 would probably be cool as one thing that Bernd Leno is really good in is saving penalties.VivaStPauli wrote:That being said, they are, of course, Neverkusen and will get dismantled in Madrid in the return leg, sadly.

Schmidt Glad to see Atleti put in their place even if the game was rather horrid to watch from a neutral perspective. The tie's far from over though, despite Atleti's failure to get an away goal.
I don't know why I find this sentence so hilarious.

Re: CL R16| Bayer Leverkusen vs Atletico Madrid
for the return leg, Godin, Tiago and probably Siqueira will also miss the game. I dont know if they have adequate and quality replacements to cope up with their absence. They will surey miss Godin imo, he was immense yesterday also. So i will say it will be all about Leverkusen players having balls to handle the pressure at Caledron and if they can they will progress.

Godin is by far their best defender so he's a massive miss. The other two are easily replaceable and you have to question whether they should play to begin with.

Re: CL R16| Bayer Leverkusen vs Atletico Madrid
If Leverkusen play as calmly, composed, and clever (and at times mildly cynical) as they did in the first leg, they'll go through.
Can see them activate headless chicken mode, though.
60-40 in Leverkusens favor IMHO.

Actually hoping Leverkusen win this. Not cause I want them to but because I need a La Liga focused Atletico to drop some Barca points.

Re: CL R16| Bayer Leverkusen vs Atletico Madrid
Let's go Leverkusen!!
Wendell is quite good, actually, and Papadapoulos if healthy is also great. The other three though...yikes. Luckily they have a very good, industrious midfield that can shield the back four, and enough pace and creativity up front to mask some of their deficiencies by keeping the opponent honest.
