Re: General Games Discussion
@M96
I did went on to read about stuff i might have missed , or couldn't have foreseen as the game goes on (obvs). I was deeply impressed by the thought given behind this game , but really , the concept is nothing new to me. I am not Sheldon Cooper either , but when it comes down to it , i was amazed with the story and the characters more than with the theoritical stuff the game works with . That being said , this game never seizes to amaze me. Regardless of being able to tell more or less from the start what this would be about , i still missed a lot of things and bear in mind i was paying attention all the time . Infinite was great stuff.
As for any new Bioshock game , will new developers have the same effect and atmosphere built into the game , the same effort? Impossible to tell. We just have to wait and see. One thing this game could do though , is remaster the shooting and all , because it felt like well-polished easily accesible mediocrity when it came to that.
Not sure how romanticized Bioshock Infinite may currently be , but i think this game won't age well. It's fun going by gameplay terms , but when it comes to FPS playing and actually to high standard FPS gameplay , it's certainly not so impressive and far from equal compared with it's storytelling and it's art .
Moal made a good point , however let's not pretend Bioshock did EVERYTHING right. It didn't . Perhaps this particular series may actually need new devs.. just an idea . The idea and what people expect from Bioshock , the engine , everything , the concept , is well known and it will all be available for the new Bioshock..
And from what i read , there's quite the story behind Bioshock Infinite devs. Regardless of any of that , it may or may not be such a bad idea to give it to another studio. It depends , i think this game could use some revolution in gameplay . The rest have to be Bioshock and only Bioshock. Some stealth wouldn't be bad either and defo go more open world if you're going to create something so beautiful.

Re: General Games Discussion
You're correct that gameplay is meh at best. I dont like gun play in Infinite one bit compared to the 1st two. In this age, having 2 guns only is unacceptable. The replayability value is none also since the game weight so much on its story. It also broke immersion for me when Elizaberth who player fighting to death to keep her safe is conpletely ignored by enemies, she's like walking ammo crate, at least Alyx has a gun and kill stuffs in HL2.
I'm not sure why but Infinite did wow me great deal 1st time I finished it but I found that I actually like and appreciate 1st one more and more. Maybe it's fresh for its time.

I agree with that, the combat in general could definitely be improved although I did enjoy the dynamic that the skyhook brought to the gameplay.

Re: General Games Discussion
Agreed the skyhook was fun to use . Not sure if it's supposed to be a sky-city thing only so maybe it's variation or even the same idea could be used on. However , even that could use improvements , significant at that.
It took me a while to realise i couldn't use vigors on air and that was just off putting. And why not? Setting dudes on fire whilst sky riding would be incredible fun . You could press a button to grind slowly and then rain fire from above , or electrocute them all together with a well prepared trap-bomb .
Skyhook could have used some better mechanics when it comes to actual shooting as well , i couldn't even aim sometimes , never mind actually have to deal with 10 thugs shooting all sorts of bullets in front of me and me having to reverse escape rather answer back .
Many things to be said . 2 weapons is one of those. I won't compain , gun holding being believable is something i always contemplate . Not sure if anyone has ever touched a real weapon over here but caring over a carbine is a thing in itself , let alone caring more than 2 weapons on you .. anyway pointless mention , the thing here is in itself . 2 weapons , OK , at least make this 2 weapons stay with you , improve with you , with use. Not buy upgrades from the weird can-machines , that's just lame. Accessing these machines during combat was also incredibly lame , if you ask me at least. Doesn't work well for immersion and it's not fun in any game , pausing to get well , you may as well pause to use a cheat , what's the difference .
For such reasons , i think new minds can add a lot . My worry is the same as everybody else , will it feel Bioshock and will the story be worthy ? Will the new city be so immersive and alive and drag you in from the get go? Will the characters feel unique , e.t.c . They won't lack in resources from past games and most important , from gathered knowledge from all things Bioshock , to this day . I want to be confident and i want to believe 2K will give Bioshock to serious people who will give it the attention it deserves. I also must confess i was a little VAGI when i realised i won't be going wherever i want in Columbia
Something last and i am rather curious to see what you think. What kind of Bioshock-city would you like to see in a potential new Bioshock and would you like the game to go more open world , even fully open world ?

I am probably going to play the previous 2 as well , Infinite more than convinced me the series is worth it. Infinite's DLC has that city Rapture which is in the bottom of the ocean and it's quite an amazing feeling to get to play in such a background.
The first Bioshock is set in Rapture , so i am going to play it at some point as well as the second , once i am done with Infinite's DLC . Fantastic game Infinite , couldn't believe myself when i begun to play it , i didn't even care to try it when it came out.
You should definitely play the first bioshock game, if you liked Infinite. It's the best one in the series, in my opinion. I just love the quirky 50s setting, the atmosphere, the characters and the storyline. I highly doubt that any future Bioshock games will be able to live up to the standards set by their predecessors, without Ken Levine being around anymore.

I dislike open world games for story heavy games if I'm honest, it takes away from the storytelling. Even GTA to a certain extent suffers from it IMO.
As for where it could be set, I have really have no idea. They have gone under water and in the clouds where do you go from that? I personally have no idea.

Below earth's surface or on/inside a mountain, just off the top of my head. OR, they could just make a game that takes place in a relatively ordinary, on-surface city for once

Oh i will . From what i see from Infinite's DLC in Rapture , i definitely will. I must check out if i will be spoiled with Infinite's DLC though. If there are spoiler's , well i don't want that. Rapture seems great , can't wait. As for Ken Levine , not sure what to tell you. I read a few things , mainly an article from Polygon , on the story behind Infinite. He deserves real credit , but let's not abandon all hope for the game just because of one man , however important. I agree though , the first and Infinite are generally considered the best and Levine was heavily behind both.

yes , it's certainly difficult to maintain balance. My complain is that , Columbia was so good , i wanted to see more of it alive , as it was when you go up. Running franticaly shooting at things , it's not the same . In any case.
As for locations...On the Moon ? Under the earth , cave like city ? Ice city in an all ice earth ? Spaceship city? Obviously with a 1900s time period going with it , not anything 1980-2000s or modern times in general.

Always best to value for money just build your own (As simple as Lego) unless you want to splurge.
That is a nice case though...

That case is amazing lol. I want to build something similar. Have a PCIE SSD instead of HDD, 16gb ram at least, 900 series graphics card.
In terms of euro/pounds, can it be manageable within £1000?

Think I can get few of those parts cheaper if I look around rather than Amazon. I like the build for the outstanding one, but would rather switch it i7 4790k rather than i5. Although I would have thought that build would run Crysis 3 much better than it's showing.

Re: General Games Discussion
@RG
An i7 4790k - GTX 970/980 - 8gbRAM+ will handle Crysis 3 at 1080p 60fps no problems. Not sure what do you mean , much better than it's showing? Showing where? On Youtube? If it's 1080p 60fps Crysis 3 you want , this rig can manage it ultra settings lol , you don't even have to take my word for it , check it out on benchmarks and reviews by stats . Crysis 3 will look and run thrice as good as wherever you saw it on the internet . Unless you have the same level of quality GPU , you won't get the same quality on any video and even then , it's compressed as you know .
Now if you want 1440p , or 4k gaming.. that's another matter. For 1440p 60fps it depends and it's certainly doable with the rig you have in mind and a GTX 970/980 . 4k , as far as i know , no rig atm runs this game 60fps ultra settings. It doesn't run on lag either and it certainly looks out of this world even at just high settings on 4k , but ultra settings 60fps Crysis 3 4k , no .
Just in case , at the very least give it a thought and consider waiting for when AMD releases the R9 390x . The rig you have in mind is a luxury as of now and it will remain competitive for the next 5 years at least. However , the R9 390x will certainly be a solid match for the GTX 980 and it will most probably cost less , it's currently the only thing stopping me (and many others all over the world) , from getting the Gigabyte Windforce G1 Gaming GTX 970 . And i mean getting it right now . Absolutely best card for the money out there , with insane overclocking and easy at that. It OC near 1500mhz , which is just out of this world , the GTX 980 has 1228mhz Base clock and Boost 1329mhz.
Newegg's price is , OMFG , £235.24 . Unbelieavable. Here in fkn Greece it costs 380e , good grief i don't want to live in this country anymore .
http://www.newegg.com/global/uk/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125684
Out of stock , of course . Unless you want 4k , or wait to see what the R9 390x will be about , next time this thing gets available , get it for your rig and never look back . It will run everything and i mean everything in ultra settings 60fps , 1080p. Even at 1440p , given the rig you have in mind , it will probably run games like Unity and Arkham Knight and Witcher 3 and Crysis 3 at near 60fps or even above at times , on ultra settings. There are benchmarks and reviews galore anyway , you can verify this easily. And yes , with 1000£ ? pff , with a little bit of luck , you could get a GTX 980 in there , though once again , it's overkill unless the absolute minimum you want is 1440p gaming.

Re: General Games Discussion
Personally I'd recommend prioritizing a 120MHz monitor over 1440p one - you're going to get a much more noticeable improvement in... gaming experience? Not sure how to put it lol. Before I had one even the small overclock from 60 to 75MHz was a massive improvement.
As for i5 vs i7 there's going to be no difference in gaming since there aren't that many games that utilize even 4 cores and afaik none that utilize the i7's virtual 8.
Bit old but still holds up:
You're going to get much more out spending the money you'd spend on an i7 by spending it on a 120fps capable monitor The only issue is that you'll look at console games under different light

Re: General Games Discussion
What you say is absolutely correct Phritz . Like i said , even that rig is a luxury for gaming as of now . For the 120mhz monitor , it gets a bit complicated , since it's not yet mainstream . It's highly recommended as you well said and myself believe hz >> resolution . However. One might just have bought a monitor or a tv prior to his rig , say a 40 tv. I don't usually suggest 120 / 144mhz to someone who already has a decent enough screen to game , since most people won't just spend an amount of 200-300x 24" monitor mostly for gaming . Eventually it will get mainstream , so.. for the time being , only enthusiasts invest in 120-144mhz . I have my eyes on a 144mhz , saw it on Newegg ( ASUS VG248QE Black 24" 144Hz) .. not sure if i can afford it though , since i have to upgrade the rig and it will cost me a lot in any case. I want it but budget disagrees
As for the i7 . Well it's true atm , but DX12 will utilise 4 cores and is expected to provide significant FPS boost when it comes to gaming and there's no need to say , better graphics. Basically , true next gen graphics . My entire point here was and is , one must look to the future . Having an i7 4790k which is a luxury for gaming these days , it's overall quality will be close to mainstream in 5 years from now. An i5 in 5 years will be decent , especially the latest ones , but it won't be near as usefull with new tech as the i7 will be . Games WILL catch up in the coming years , so personally speaking , i am willing to spend more than i need , even when i fully comprehend , last gen i5 is more than enough for gaming . I7 is indeed mostly for workstations , but again , better surplass than in lack hey?
I would like your opinion on something else as well.
I am also heavily considering going with a Haswell-E I7 5820k , X99 MOBO and DDR4 RAM configuration. I know the difference will be non-existant for gaming , especially with my standard 60hz 1080p monitor(at least untill i get the 144mhz).. The sole reason i am considering all that , is because i am feeling a bit uneasy spending significant money to get just Haswell , Z97 MOBO and DDR3 RAM , when next gen hardware is out there , even if it's absolute overkill and meaningless (yet) for gaming and it will remain so for quite some time. I realise Haswell-E is just a refresh , but when it comes down to it , Broadwell will release in 2016 and i won't be getting any of that out of the box anyway , too expensive and i won't have any practical need for that amount it will cost , so i feel maybe Haswell-E i7 is where's it at for for careless gaming for the next 7-8 years or so. (no?)
What do you think? Should i spend somewhere near an extra 400e and go balls deep next gen , or just stick with I7 4790k , Z97 Gaming 7 MOBO , 8gb DDR3 Corsair Veng e.t.c . I understand i don't need DDR4 and any of the new stuff when it comes to just about gaming/user experience , yet i'd like to invest in something powerfull for my next rig and forget about upgrades (past the GPU) for the next 7-8 years at least.
And when i consider i will probably getting the GTX 970 , especially if the new R9 390x costs same/more than GTX 980 ... it will cost me a lot to whatever i do anyway , let alone next gen stuff . Yeah , so my question is , should i be spending all that money on top of the line current gen , just about when new hardware is going to spread around ? Shouldn't i be focusing in a next gen configuration?

There will always be new tech around the corner, the upgrades you'd want to spend money on, as you said yourself, are not going to impact your gaming to the point where it's worth the money. If you want to "future proof" yourself, lay that money aside to SLi your rig up later on. There wont be any DX12 compatibility issues and DX12 will bring massive performance improvements in itself. I would expect a 970 with a 2nd addition later on to last through this whole console generation.
Devs and Publishers don't want another Crysis which was a critically acclaimed game (not just for the graphics which had DX11 features (in 2007, when DX10 had just come out) but without the performance optimizations DX11 brought) but with meh sales figures because of the hardware requirements. Most games are going to be multi-platform and as I have referenced multiple times - the PS4 and XBone are equivalent to a 750Ti. so 2x970GTX should be more than enough to keep you covered; I had did the same plan with my previous GTX 275 rig and the only issue that rig would have today is the lack of DX11.
The upgrades you are thinking about are ones I would do but my reasons wouldn't really apply as much, my comp is a Workstation first (1080p Video Editing, Recording and Special Effects, 3D Editing, Print Design with massive (100+Mpixels) sizes etc) and a gaming machine second so those upgrades would affect me massively but you not so much imo.
