Why do you count penalties won (and then converted) as assists? Transfermarkt has that issue where if you win a penalty and then score it, you get a goal and assist.

Basically because getting to the nitty gritty of how each assist was won is too time consuming and no other website provides data for the same range of competitions. Just know that these are transfermarkt assists and take them with a grain of salt.

But CR's goals aren't pure. His hattricks aren't tier 1 & his pens are all gifts, plus his assist are all wide assist.

Shouldn't be #1 imo

Why count assists on penalties at all then? Penalties won should just be a different stat.

If you want to stretch it a bit you could say that winning penalties IS an achievement and of course you create a great opportunity for someone to score.
But of course it's complete bs if the same player can get an assist AND a goal for one goal. I mean is there anyone but transfermarkt counting like that?

Oh and I guess many people just want the whole stuff to stay as simple as possible. Just have a look at many of the discussions on here.. people don't want even nigh complex stuff.. goal+assist = bestest player on earth. Or just goals.

Would you guys rather I use whoscored (opta)  data with more accurate assist counts (but it won't include regional cups, super cups, el, and cwc) or keep as is and adjust for faulty transfermarkt data where we catch it?

Whoscored is probably better. Who cares about Cups that include lower division opponents anyway?

I prefer opta aswell but IMO including cups via transfermarkt.

How do you organize the data that way? Manually?

What do you mean organize? The data is entered manually from the website and then sorted using excel's tools

Ah ok thats what I was wondering. If they organised the data that way somewhere or if you were collecting it from their site and organizing it yourself. Seems like a lot of work. How do you know you didn't miss anyone?

I don't but there's a list of 20+ names in the ones that did not make the top 30. Chances are if I miss anyone that was not there someone here will tell me.
