rwo power wrote:Exactly that was my point. Neymar is young and still kinda stupid. I expected the bubble to burst when he will be facing Zuniga again but he let his teammates down as he can't feature anymore.
Strangely sometimes it can work. I'll take an example from another game, cricket. Ricky Ponting was supposed to be the naughtiest boy in class but after he became the captain he proved to be a fine leader and Australia's subsequent success was boundless. Overall I agree with you though that the captain should be someone who can conduct himself well, maintain a cool head and whom the team mates can look up to for help in difficult situations rather than one who is the first to get agitated and other team mates have to calm him down.

Winter is Coming wrote:Javier Mascherano says Brazil captain Neymar was kicked out of the Copa America.
The Barcelona forward was handed a four-match ban by Conmebol on Friday following his red card and subsequent clash with referee Enqiue Osses during the Selecao’s 1-0 loss to Colombia.
The sanction means Neymar will miss the remainder of the tournament and Argentina midfielder Mascherano says his Blaugrana team-mate has been once again let down by match officials.
“Things like this happen in South American football and even more so in the Copa America, where it's difficult for players like him because you get more protection in Europe,” Mascherano told ESPN.
"Neymar was kicked 20 times, yet he was shown a yellow card for one handball. These type of talented players aren’t allowed to play. The tackles are getting worse in the tournament. It depends on what the referees and organisations want to do about it.
"We must do more to protect these players. He was kicked 20 times! This affects your head. Don’t forget that Neymar is Neymar, but he’s only a boy of 23 years. Brazil have lost a lot."
Neymar was handed a second yellow card at the final whistle for kicking the ball against Colombia’s Pablo Armero before aiming a head-butt at Jeison Murillo.
He was originally handed a one-match ban before receiving an additional three-game suspension for verbally abusing the match official. He has also been fined $10,000 USD.
This is very much on the lines of what the general feeling on this forum has been.

rwo believes in strong leaders
Doesn't matter who's captain anway. Bayern made a backstabbing pos captain. Didn't prevent the Goatsteiger from being the leader on the pitch.
Actually being a good player is worth more than being a leader

BarrileteCosmico wrote:So what do you guys make of the level of this Copa America? Permissive refs, Uruguay without Suarez, Brazil without Neymar, Argentina falling apart in the 2nd halves, Chile & Colombia actually have a decent shot this time around.
See if Argentina don't win this tournament now when will an international trophy ever come? Messi even by his standards has had the season of his life. The next tournament is three years from now and by that time even a phenomenon like him would have suffered physical decline. Besides I think winning the Copa is the confidence Argentina need to believe of victory in the next world cup. Yes the team has not played well so far but even if victories have to be eeked out winning is what can make a huge difference. Chile being the host is a threat certainly. Brazil with Dunga in charge I wouldn't rule out even if they put out terrible players on the pitch. A team like Uruguay are always tough to beat. However if Argentina don't win then the reason can only be found inwards.

I for one welcome this rough play for a change as long as dangerous studs up challenges aren't involved. Throwback to the 80s and 90s where this kind of defending was the norm.

There is another Copa America next year.

Copa America 2016, might not go through according to some, but the Olympics are next year, so he'll probably go that.

Really? I had no idea. Either way I'm sure Messi wants to win a full international trophy. At least once. How long has it been since they won something? It was in the nineties I think.

I had forgotten about Copa America 2016 when I wrote that post but I have also read this tournament might not go through.
I think there should be only one Copa America every four years and there should be no business of inviting teams. It should be all about South America only.
As for Olympics, Messi has already won that. So I don't see much of a point in him playing and trying to win again. He needs to win a senior international trophy. Of course if there is nothing else on the calendar then he could be invited to help win the Olympics.

Argentina did win Olympics 2008 and 2004 but those are not full senior international trophies. The last win of that kind came in Copa America 1993.

Cuadrado as RB but is playing the same way. I've lost count on how many times he's lost posession

FT Colombia 0 - 0 Peru
Not sure how these tiebreakers work, Brazil could draw Venezuela and then everyone on the group would be level on points

1. Greater number of points in all group matches
2. Goal difference in all group matches
3. Greater number of goals scored in all group matches
4. Head-to-head result (between two teams only)
5. Penalty shoot-out (if both teams are playing the last match of the group stage)
6. Drawing of lots by the CONMEBOL Organising Committee

Re: Copa America 2015
Brazil win and the group is won.
Coutinho, who will be Brazil's star in 2018, cements his place tonight.
Although if the ^^above is correct it might be smart to draw just to get Colombia out of the picture.
Nobody is afraid of Cuadrado or James, but its always better if they are not there anymore.
