Messi looked tired that 2nd half, which is understandable considering he just played UCL final last weekend plus the partying I'm assuming that came after (plus the Spanish Cup the weekend before that). They should of brought him off sometime in the 2nd to allow him to rest and brought on another midfielder to help stop Paraguay even before they got the first goal.

exactly my thought....the guy is still clueless and thats what i was thinking even when we were leading by 2 goals. Di maria had been super flop, cant link up with any up front. his best effort is to take shot on his own. still Tata keeps on playing him. After the second goal Paraguay put everything up front and the attack had a free ride from mid to upfront. we just needed energy at that time. but he takes out Pastore who had been far better instead of di maria. Argentina will remain a copa flop with this kinds of coaches

Super quick question and it's been a while.

When I originally looked up the copa america
Colombia and Brazil were scheduled to open up the group. This is now not the case so I'm just wondering if maybe I misread a few months back or if there was a reason for this change. Again, just wondering.

He subbed Tevez and Higuain on because he wanted a third goal. Evidently Tata doesn't trust his team enough to park the bus and he didn't really have anyone on the bench he could bring on that would control the game. Biglia wasn't fit and Pererya is young, understandable to not want to throw him into a high pressure situation. His only mistake was taking off Pastore and not Banega. Pastore was the best player along with Messi and they struggled to create anything without him. Right idea honestly (to bring on Tevez to improve the attack and get a third goal to kill the game), just bad execution.

Some good points. Argentina is not going to win this CA with Martino. He's repeating the same mistakes as when at Barca. Messi was not seeing much of the ball, seemed isolated at times, lots of long balls and crosses into the box - a reflection of his Barca. He's a poor manager. Simple as. Messi needs to be on the ball as much as possible, with the ball at his feet things happen. But Tata *bleep* up again.

Di Maria is a joke of a player. He's completely useless and his only contribution is crossing the ball into the box which doesn't work at all because they have short forwards. But Tata will keep starting him as he did with Fabregas at Barca.

Pretty sad that all the blame will be shifted to Messi once they don't even get past the group stage because of a clueless manager and ultimate chokers in Di Maria/Higuain.

The first half of the game against Paraguay was played at such a lackluster pace, almost in first gear, and Paraguay looked so dead that I went off to sleep at half time with the thought that there was nothing left to see in the match. Imagine my shock when I woke up next morning to read the final result!

I still think Alessandro Sabella was the right coach for us and was treated very unfairly after the world cup final loss. It was his decision to walk out but he may have been put under undeserved pressure.

Calma, argie will get past the group stage. The copa America has this best loser rule thing, even if they're 3rd in their group they'll still need them to make up the quarter final numbers.. Well, except they loose their next 2 matches or draw them. :coffee:

Exactly. He did it without pastore and banega he was alone in midfield. If this Messi played that final Argentina would have won the WC. He didnt change much but his dribbling and speed improved this season

Also defense is very important. It doesnt matter what messi does if defense concedes 2-3 goals every game then no maradona or pele can save them .Barca won everything because their defense was as good as messi

How about blaming Martino rather than the players? He has undone all of Sabella's good work knowing that he had no time to prepare. You can't go from anti-football to possession in 4 training practices spread out over a year. What should've happened is that we kept the same base that took us to the WC final at the Copa America, with a few switches, and then start making this team truly his own.

By whom? He was well received back home, and much of the albiceleste community wanted him to stay. It looked more of a personal decision than a pol. one. At his age, he may 've wanted to take a break after the emotionally draining campaign he had.
