Re: Champions League 2014/15 | Group B
Rodgers had a nightmare today. Paid Basel far too much respect and went defensive. Had Coutinho and Lallana starting on the bench. Why? Boggles the mind.
'Pool players were thoroughly outplayed in the first half. Credit to Basel. They were full of energy, pressed LFc all over the pitch and kept possession well. It was far too easy for them.
2nd half Lambert goes off. debateable red card for Markovic. Basel were knackered. Gerrard scored a great FK and did his trademark starfish dive too.
Liverpool huffed and puffed, but in the end wasn't enough. You can't just decide to put the effort in the dying minutes.
All that effort from last season, waiting for 5 years to qualify for the CL, to then just luckily beat some random unheard of team in the group stages
Anfield was like a morgue today too. What happened to the mythical 'famous' Anfield nights? Outsung by the Basel fans all night.
Thursday nights now to eastern european stadiums. More games.
Morale and energy should be down for the team come Sunday. We should take advantage.

Feel sorry for Gerrard. He doesn't deserve to play with such scrubs

It's done with yellow card offenses all the time.
Pretty sure you can't give a red after an advantage. That's atleast what I've been told at practice.
http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/footballdevelopment/refereeing/02/36/01/11/27_06_2014_new--lawsofthegameweben_neutral.pdfThe referee may play advantage whenever an infringement or offence occurs.
The referee should consider the following circumstances in deciding whether to
apply the advantage or stop play:
• the severity of the offence: if the infringement warrants an expulsion, the
referee must stop play and send off the player unless there is a subsequent
opportunity to score a goal

Tbh Liverpool were lucky with the draw.
BTW: a Loss woud've saw them drop to fourth place, or where did they have a goal advantage over ludo at any case?
The line up we had vs madrid bar sterling and hendo was better than tonight, so does that mean we forfeited the game today as well?
Like FFS too much idiots keep thinking because players with a big name or reputation missed out that they didnt deserve to be dropped.
The result might've been better, but that's because Madrid didn't give a damn about playing that B team. I don't believe Rodgers played with that team in any other important game this season, and if it weren't for recent injuries, he wouldn't even come close to fielding that lineup.
I would've agreed if Liverpool outplayed Madrid that game tactically because of that linup, but it didn't.
And it wasn't like they wanted to win, they just played to not to loose by a big margin, which was my greatest gripe on that game.
Anyway, I don't want to continue this convo as it's not the best time. I just wish next time Liverpool are in the UCL they either bring a new mentality to their game, or a new coach. Either way, I like Liverpool, and I would hate to see them go out in such a way.

So it's pretty much the refs own choice whether or not to enforce it. Never seen a ref show a player a straight red after being given an advantage goal though. Might have happened, can't remember if I've seen it.

So i take it that this is final confirmation that the transfer strategy of "Replace best player in the league with a bunch of lads whose lifetime achievement is finishing 8th" did not succeed?
Shocked, I am.

Advantage is always the ref's discretion. But discounting a goal to give a penalty for me is a failure on the refs part by default. If that isn#t advantage, nothing is.
As for the red card, it's a red card offense, so why couldn't he give it after the goal?

Oi! Balotelli is a Serie A, Champions League and Premier League champion!
And Rickie Lambert an English League One and Championship Golden Boot winner!
And Lovren's won the French Cup!
Rodgers's got our transfers sorted, aye.

Balotelli wasn't around today either. Whatever you think of him, I'd still say he's the most likely to score for them in a big game.
Lambert sure isn't.
But Rodgers is obviously not man enough to stand behind the player he bought a few weeks ago, and is starting to throw Balotelli under the bus.

If any one game could possibly showcase the complete incompetence of a coach, this was it. Feel sorry for Liverpool fans, Rogers lost you this game.

Rodgers stuck with Balo for pretty much the whole season, gave him the longest his given a shit player to take his chance. We all know he would of started today if he was fit.

Favorite Player: Cristiano Ronaldo
Reasons why you love Cristiano Ronaldo so much:
"I'm his biggest fan from South Texas, United States. I have been a CR7 fan since 2007 when he was in Manchester United. Cristiano Ronaldo is definitely the best, many people compare him and Messi and both are wonderful players with great talent and skills. Barcelona is better than Madrid, but Cristiano is better than Messi. Ronaldo has changed a lot over the years and he has become unstoppable. He deserves to win the Balon d'or this year because this was Ronaldo's year. 7 Years after his father's death and the number he wears on the field #7 makes him stronger. Ronaldo inspires/motivates me to be the best and that nothing is impossible. I play as a right attacking forward and mimic a lot of his moves and goals. My dream is to meet him in person and tell him that he is the best player in the World, Don't forget that on his interview to CNN, he was asked who is was better, if Ronaldo or Messi, and this was his response: "Some people say I am better, while others say it's him, but you know that at the end of the day they are going to realize who is the best player in the moment and I think it is me." HALA MADRID"
