What do you think of a team Balon d'Or award?
Going to the team playing the most attractive football. Basically the most entertaining football team of the year.
Not necessarily have to win anything major just play to entertain. Winning trophies is one thing. You can win trophies playing any style of football tbh as long as you win it doesn't matter in the history books. But this award would go to the team that just abandons all the boring bs park the bus crap and goes full on entertainment value.
PS. Sounds pretty stupid to me but what the hell why not see what you guys think. Especially since I always hear complaints how football individual awards are stupid since it's a team game etc etc.

Not bothered but tbh it makes more sense than having a bunch of individual hype/publicity awards in an 11 a side game.

Beauty is too subjective.
Nobody would be able to agree unless they're playing some Barca Guardiola stuff

Define '' Entertaining '' . And how to mesure it ?
For Marketing reasons Ballon d'or has to be an individual trophy

The Balon d'Or award goes to the "best player" not to the player with the most attractive football.

Tbh great entertainment always prevails. There are always people that would disagree because like you say beauty is subjective, but if you have a panel of 1000 or so judges choosing the winner, majority will always choose the truly entertaining team.
Take tv shows for example. There are some die hard Gossip Girl fans and would even say it's more entertaining than Breaking Bad, but at the end of the day those are just some outliers in the system. Majority will always say agree which is the truly quality entertainment.

For the lack of a better term I used it, you can name the trophy whatever the hell you want.
Best teams already get trophies you don't need any other awards for that.

You mean like.... trophies?
Winning is entertaining so by proxy any winner will provide some entertainment to some people. Obviously some teams will be considered more entertaining than others but that is normal.

I would say entertainment can be measured by opinions.
If a majority think one team is the most entertaining then that team is the most entertaining team and they would win the award.
@Zeal
no not like trophies.

An award like this for me should go to an underdog team like Algeria or someone.

Re: What do you think of a team Balon d'Or award?
Why the hell are you going to reward a team for anything other than winning though? The goes against the whole point of competitive sports.
There is the fair play award for teams that everyone likes I guess, but that already exists and it isn't really given to the best team.

There was a "Most entertaining team" award in the World Cup for a while: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA_World_Cup_awards#Most_Entertaining_Team
I wonder why they scrapped it, btw. Should be another means to make some ad money or so and they just did away with that?

Re: What do you think of a team Balon d'Or award?
Why have a team Balon D'Or?
That's what a trophy is...
Who cares about attractive football?
It's stupid to place all your focus into attractiveness.
Winning is winning, no matter how ugly it is. Jose Mourinho has built his career on this principle. As has Fabio Capello... Diego Simeone is the new kid on the block...
It would only serve as a justification to allow people like Arsene Wenger feel good about themselves...
Kind of like those certificates you give pre-schoolers to help their self-esteem.
And besides, I hate the Balon D'Or in the first place.
It's all about subjectivity and popularity, a farce to any footballing purist.
I would far rather that they came up with a team player award... Awarded to a player who best exhibits team spirit, self-sacrifice and humility. (excuse me fellow Madridistas, but...) Carles Puyol would win it every year until he turns 50.

Re: What do you think of a team Balon d'Or award?
No need, there are already trophies for that...and for those teams that have been chasing some league title or league silverware for some time, some of them have the "third n fourth" place trophy lol.
Its a silly idea, teams are motivated with wins and some of these wins yield financial gain; a mid table team would be delighted at the chance at getting into the top four which in turn would yield significant financial compensation than some silly team award akin to the "fair play" award given out in continental tournaments...as long as it doesn't affect silverware nor relegation/promotion battles, most of us could care less about it

They probably scrapped it cos it yielded no financial benefits due to no one caring about it, difficult to market something no one cares about...it was probably more of an accolade than a physical award. Besides, a team that plays well yet fails to meet its goals in terms of winning silverware could care less about some "Budweiser Most Entertaining Team Award"......there are things one could just do without.....for example a match for third/fourth place of the uefa champions league (i have a feeling someone will make a thread suggesting this in 5, 4, 3...)

Re: What do you think of a team Balon d'Or award?
The "what is defined as attractive/entertaining football" subjective argument is baseless seeing as arguing who is the "best player" is itself subjective in the first place.
The idea can carry weight seeing as like the Balon D'or it would be voted on by professionals and the most votes wins.
It would be interesting to say the least
