Is Guardiola indirectly the angel of the World Cup?
He introduces the system which allows Spain to field more than half of their squad with Barca players and it leads to success. Fast forward to now and it's the same exact story but with Germany utilizing mostly Bayern squad, coached by the same man. He clearly had a stronger influence with Spain's WC win but is it just coincidence?
Personally I can't wait til he coaches a NT

Re: Is Guardiola indirectly the angel of the World Cup?
With or without Pep the Bayern squad was obviously going to be heavily included in the German NT.
Let's look at it this way, what Bayern players in your mind wouldn't have played for the German NT if Pep wasn't the Bayern coach?
Doesn't make sense to me, they get in the team because they're the best of the bunch. And have been for a long time

Spain yes but with Germany? I don't think he any link whatsoever bar him being Bayern's manager. As Tom said, Bayern players would have been picked regardless.

No.
Pep hasn't been at Bayern that long.
Mourinho could have managed there last season and it wouldn't have made a difference.

No disrespect OP but this is really silly from Barca fans. The team has actually only started playing well after ditching the false 9 and starting a real striker to play off and after ditching Lahm from midfield. The only 2 contributions you can attribute to Pep.

Not for Germany, Germany have been using more or less the same squad for a while now

Luis Aragones brought some system to Spain not Guardiola... he wasn't even coaching first teams at that time. I don't know about Germany but I don't really see any pep influence other than Lahm at DM tactics lmfao
Re: Is Guardiola indirectly the angel of the World Cup?
the only thing guardiola introduced to germany almost cost them the world cup ( lahm as a midfielder, no striker )
barça fans are hilarious.

Certainly helps that the Bayern squad has been coached by legends like LVG and Pep though. And clearly the pressing that made this team win the cup was not there in 2010, when Low was still there. So if Low was not the instigator of the new tactics you have to wonder if it came from the players.Tomwin Lannister wrote:With or without Pep the Bayern squad was obviously going to be heavily included in the German NT.

They probably would've won anyway had Pep never taken over FCB though.

This
You could absolutely make a stronger argument that Pep influence was more of a hindrance and almost costed Germany a WC.

The pressing came from Dortmunds Gegenpressing which was all the rage after Klopp who cites Sacchi as his inspiration. Ball retention just came naturally because the players had the technique to do so. In this World Cup in particular Germany appeared to play "possession" football because every team they played decided to drop off and try to play on the counter vs. Germany's high line. (Which was there because Neuer is an excellent sweeper and to make the aforementioned Gegenpressing as effective as possible. The tactical awareness and movement of players is there because of the complete overhaul of the German youth system and the homogeneous playstyle they're taught.
If anything, like mentioned before Peps influence has been detrimental - Kroos and Lahm as DM's, Götze false 9 etc.

Aragones was coaching at the beginning of Spain's dominance but you can't deny the influence Guardiola had to improve Spain's overall play.

Re: Is Guardiola indirectly the angel of the World Cup?
World Cup 2014 said us that
- tiki taka is dead
- Germany won when it left the useless Guardiolisms as Lahm DM and false nueve and it was back to play as it knew doing
- Mascherano as Central Defender is one of worst choices ever. It's sad to think Mascherano wasted his prime in that role
so it is the contrary , Guardiola is the greatest beaten in this cup.
