rwo power wrote:Actually the number of yellows given is very low in general. In a way I'm not angry about that as it means that less players get suspended. Compare that to the last World Cups where the refs let cards rain like drops of water during a cloudburst.

That's all fine and well but the fact that players can flop without any consequences is a travesty. It's incredible that flopping is essentially being encouraged on the biggest stage in football. How does this help eliminate flopping from football?

FIFA is essentially saying they're OK with it.

Players who are flopping deserve to get suspended. If they don't want to get suspended, don't flop. Say what you want about reffing but it doesn't make it easy for refs when they have to continually deal with players trying to deceive them and being stripped of the ability to try and deal with it.

translation, he is sorry for diving and admitted it. cool we got an apology but would he do it again? hell yeah 10/10 times he will because there is no punishment for these things, and i don't blame him i would do it too.
FIFA should consider fining players like the NBA does, but not some stupid 5k fine something a bit more serious.

don't know why he apologized for the first half challenge as it was a clear penalty imo.2 mexican players challenged him and neither got the ball

Takes pressure off the refs live and makes the consequences dire for the players since yellows can add up to suspensions. I guarantee you that the number of dives drops like a cliff as a result.

But UEFA and FIFA never do the obvious things.

I kind of like this idea but dont agree this will take off some pressure from the refs. every such incidents spotted after match will also show refs inability in identifying those events.

not for that one, i guess. there was another near the edge of the box on the left side of the post when the ball was well cleared but fell down inside the box after clearance.

Murican ref so afraid of being conned by a "flopper" that he didn't send off Matuidi for almost breaking Onazi's leg in half

Personally if I was a ref I'd never give a pen to robben no matter how clear it was

He could never draw a penalty for the rest of his career and it still wouldn't make up for all the ones he got undeservingly

In the Switzerland-France match, Olivier Giroud broke Steve van Bergen's facial bones with a dangerous high kick to the head and he wasn't even booked for it No

How is that any different than the way things are now? We see a ton of replays, we have youtube and the post-games shows go over the replays. I think what sports said would make players think twice before diving. Sure they might still win the penalty for the game, but they could potentially miss out on the next game.

yeah.....no doubt we know from replays the true thing. but that remains in the debate only. the decisions are not changed, or ref's acts are not called into questions officially. In this case, its going to his CV that this number of times his decision was changed. I mean there is a difference between official and unofficial thing.

Anyway, i also find this as a very logical way to solve the issue.

How many fouls until a Brazil player gets booked? These players can make 2-3 cynical fouls per game and get away with it.

I give you guys credit. Once you hop on a bandwaggon, you ride it hard until it falls apart.

We were dirty and so were they. Don't whine because they couldn't beat our pathetic excuse for a team

Horrible reffing but I felt it went both ways, should have been 5+ cards with the amount of tackles.

No one is blaming Brazil or Colombia (Zuniga's assassination attempt on Nerman was terrible). When players see a weak ref with no spine they take advantage.

The point is the ref was terrible. One yellow early for a tough foul immediately kills the aggression for most of the players.

Carvalho refused to control the game when things started getting out of hand and both teams could have seen their players injured. In Nerman's case that's what actually happened. This is a guy who can barely referee a Betis v Granda game without controversy, how the hell is he in charge of a quarter final lol

As shit as that reff was, I have to give a shoutout to my main man linesman in the France - Germany game. By far the worst linesman i've ever seen. The reff made all the decisions for him, guy gets destroyed 3 feet infront of him he just stands there with his flag down looking away rofl
